Hitchhing only works if youre young and hot and female. NOBODY in thier right mind will pick you up.

Greyhound used to have this deal where you could buy a 3-week pass or something, and hop on any bus you want at any time. I remember it being a pretty good deal, but I couldn't find it on a quick look at their website. Might be worth looking into though. |

I hitchhiked when I was 12 with 5 of my friends. It shaved an hours walk of my day.
I also rode trains from the bars to my apartment in college. Got arrested for criminal trespass once. |

hitch hiking works just fine. I have only give a ride to someone once, when he was broken down, but there are tons of truckers who have no problem doing it.
I felt bad the other day because I was at a truck stop and had a kid come up asking for a ride. Was hard to tell how old he was but I would say around 14-16. After I said no to him I wanted to tell him to be reeeeeeeaaalll careful about who he gets into a truck with, but I didn't have the chance.

I've hitchiked once when there was a bus strike in L.A. I was really hung over and in a "I don't give a fuck" mood. Some guys were ruthless, "I'll give you a ride if... you know...", but I got in a car with a guy that seemed pretty decent and I got to where I wanted.
If you're gonna do it, be really, really careful Abe. Maybe even carry a pocket knife. |

Anxiety, it was nice knowing you...
Seriously, unless you will enjoy going cross country and fending off unwanted advances from male motorists, (or worse) don't. p.s. Watch the movie "The Hitcher" before you go. |

It's ok just as long as you obey the Rules of the Road.

I would think the toughest thing would be to actually find a ride. I would scout the local colleges, see if there's a bulletin board for people looking to carpool to distant destinations.
