Ping: Deer Hunters
Up at my camp, we've seen this fellow walking around for a few months, finally put my deer tracker cam around him, threw out some corn and was able to get some pictures of him. This is the most unique deer I've ever seen, I'm guessing it is a partial albino deer. You can tell it is a young buck, so we've told everyone around to not shoot this deer, I'd love to see him grow up into a really nice deer. Anyone else ever seen anything like this? Is it a partial albino, or is it something else?

Not sure, I'd need to see some more pics. I think the term for having large patches of white hair and not completely white is 'piebald'. In my area, we have a recessive gene that is the opposite of albino that makes whitetails all black, except for the white under the tail. It freaked me out the first time I saw one. It was a dark grey all over, no white around the mouth or eyes. I think the trait is called 'melanistic'

It's a piebald. It's got a genetic defect and will probably not grow into a very decent deer. I would go ahead and shoot it, I'm sure it will taste good. Let's see some pictures this fall after you harvest it.
