Alright, boyz!! Here we go...Madden 08 First impressions
Ok, i didn't see any thread discussing it here so let's start with a copy&paste (beating jbmagic) from the sportsgamer.com admin that has the game already.
Everything can be read in the following url (I just copied it to discuss it here at FOFC): http://www.sportsgamer.com/forums/forum508/ Thanks a lot to Fred for these reviews.

Reading the above, It seems that the superstar mode is going to be so fun, like the NCAA08 one but... that his 40's overall created rookie is already starting for the Packers...
I'll probably end buying this for the PS3 mainly to import my CL from NCAA08, but if the PC version has more features i'll probably play it more than the Ps3 one for full franchises.

glad they have revamped scouting to get rid of that asinine "combine" bullshit. That was such an irritating feature that totally penalized you for not being a joystick-jockey

Yeah, maybe I'm being an elitist, but I'm not very impressed with his style in reviewing his copy of the game and I find myself questioning some of his impressions as a result. |

Not as concerned with the spelling as you guys are, but am concerned about all the impressions of All Madden. That doesn't really relate to how I'll play the game. Superstar mode looks like it could be a lot of fun. In NCAA it's almost the only way to play the game IMHO. |

For me, I'm not concerned with the spelling. It's the tone of some of his posts that bother me. From my understanding, he runs a site that is supposed to be a professional fan site (which is why he got the game so early I believe) for Madden/NCAA and the tone comes off as immature in a lot of his posts. I also agree that he is focused on All-Madden which I almost never play on, so that also is an issue I have with his impressions.

Wait and see for sure. I'm thinking FOF 2k7 could once again be my "NFL" fix this year.
Waiting on EF and Troy for their impressions! |

I would love a good franchise mode, but i'm sure it will come full of bugs, or broken players progression or any other stupid bug that will ruin again what could have been a great game, so i'll end playing superstar most of the time, it will be fun to run the career from high school to the pros with ncaa and madden (even with the stupid playcalling in the CL mode).

You still can't play 15 minute QTR's right ?

You could, but you would get massively inflated stats. Accelerated clock still isn't in the game . |

It was in a few years ago (4 or 5?) on the PS2/Xbox, but it hasn't been in any of the next gen versions. I'm not sure if it is in recent versions on the PS2/Xbox or not. Instead, you have to play somewhere between 7-9 minute quarters to get semi-realistic stats.

Yeah, they keep taking out useful features, like save-in-the-middle. The lack of that feature is why CL mode in NCAA 08 is probably my only football game playing this round (and probably next).

The Radio Announcer guy who sucks really sucks. I hate his false enthusiasm and wish I had Madden droning on about some inane bullshit instead.

One good thing I've read from the early impressions on OS is that it is MUCH easier to throw a lob in Madden than NCAA. Just tap the button like previous years.

A guy on MaddenMania is posting a lot of franchise info. Looks like NCAA imported classes have some guys who come in inflated and at least with those classes, teams with promising QB's are still taking QB's in the 1st round. For example, the Titans took Colt McCoy (who came in as an 81 overall in talent already.) 8 QB's went in the 1st round in his draft including Colt Brennan, Booty, McCoy, Sam Kellar and a few others. He's going to run game generated drafts either tonight or tomorrow and comment on those.

The simmed interception glitch which doubles all interceptions in simmed games in franchise is still apparently in the game this year. It annoys me that it was there last year and wasn't fixed almost as much as the fact that it is there in the first place. Now, I'm back on the fence as to whether I'll buy it or not.

Agree, this kind of stuff is what really irritates me, it was there last year, and one year and version later is still there. I can underestand new bugs appearing in the code, but not fixing reported ones one year later? come on.

Looks like I can stall on the 360 until College Hoops 2k8 comes out, better on my pocket book..
Seriously, these little things point to bigger problems... I'm not a big EA Hater by any means, but they're gotten extra sloppy with Madden imo.

The only baffling thing is that people are still surprised that bugs don't get fixed. How many years have there been 10 ft high jumping linebackers who play the passing game perfectly in Madden now?

DOLA - if FIFA is supposed to be amazing, I'll be completely stoked but I suspect it will take a complete rewrite. Out of all their games, it's the one that plays least like the game it is supposed to simulate. The physics and strategy are absolutely horrible.

I play fifa on my pc with a pretty deep AI mod (I forget the name of it) but it makes the game play a lot more realistic. Not to say it's perfect...but it's far from automatic that I trounce anyone. And i'll even tie and lose every so often.
I know you 360 guys don't have that advantage, but there is a decent community that mods fifa year by year |

fifa is an arcade game, basically...more like nfl street or something than an actual soccer game.
the winning eleven series has been outclassing fifa for years. |

I tried W11 and found it way more "arcadey looking" than fifa. besides, for accuracy's sake I play FM. I fire up FIFA when I want to knock the ball around and make some crazy runs/score some pretty goals. I don't care if it's an "arcade game" at that point. edit: ditto with Madden. If I want accuracy and depth I'll play FOF. If I want to zip an out pattern and hit a receiver in the chest and slip a tackle to run in for the winning score with 3 seconds on the clock, I'll play Madden. Basically I'm just pissed that it seems like everyone is focused on the idea that there has to be one game that is everything to everyone. How about each game has their strength, and if you want to have access to all those strengths you buy multiple games? What's the big deal with that? Let each game do well what it does well and stop demanding that they push into areas where they don't do well. Last edited by DaddyTorgo : 08-12-2007 at 06:21 PM. |

I REALLY wish 2k sports could have released a complete NFL football game this year. Unless something changes my mind, it looks like FOF 2k7 will be my NFL fix again this season.... and that's definitly NOT a bad thing. Maybe Jim will release another update or something for the football season? |

That's pretty much what folks think of it to be honest. It's derived from a board game called First and Ten. It does actually have quite a following and getting all the seasons in NFL history and free updates is really worth a $50 price tag I think. |

Keeping with my jbmagic style copy/paste here are some user reviews and questions/answers for the PC version:
http://football-freaks.com/forums/in...pic=20370&st=0 Resume from that thread (yeah i not only copy&pasting ) The good: - Finally widescreen support. - The SS mode has some things from the next gen version, like for example, apart from creating a new rookie, you can also play as any of the real rookies. - Gameplay and controls feel a bit better. The bad: - It's madden 07 with some new faces and graphics updates, the old custom tools developed by the modders work perfectly. - Simmed stats keep being as bad as in 07 (for example, Vince Young 1500 rushing yards in the first season) - The new players ratings are not included, the ratings used are the same than past year or than current gen (like no new zone/m2m coverage ratings etc). - A lot of the unis are wrong ( i don't care about this a lot, but some guys do). - Still no next gen gang tackling. - Rosters are not up to date (T.Green still in the Chiefs for example) Hate to say this, but i'm going to purchase the Ps3 version (already preordered) just to continue my CL to the pros. The PC version... will just download it to see if the user mods are able to fix the franchise stats/bad draft AI etc as they did in 07. No way i'm going to pay for both versions seing the crap work they did (not that i'm surprissed). I see myself this year playing mainly CL and SS modes from NCAA to Madden 08 in the PS3 as it's being really fun for me. I doubt i'll play franchise knowing all the bugs they have (like INT's counted twice as we talked before and really crap simmed stats).
