Just came back from watching The Simpsons Movie

...and it was thoroughly fun. If you love the Simpsons' style of humor, the movie's got it, and more. Of course, it did feel like just a 1 1/2 hour episode of the Simpsons, but, still, it was fun to watch. Homer and Bart explore their father son relationship, Marge questions her marriage with Homer, Lisa finds a love interest, Maggie exhibits her genius, and the Simpsons (primarily Homer) push the town of Springfield to the brink of extinction. If you are a Simpsons fan and are willing to shell out the bucks for the movie, I'd recommend it.

"Spider pig, spider pig, he can do anything a spider pig can. Can he spin a web? No he can't. He's a pig. Watch out! Here comes the spider pig!"

Are we talking Simpsons circa seasons 4-7, or season 15 type Simpsons?

Actually, I'm not quite sure. A mixture of both? Lisa and Marge have that "voice of reason" behind their characters again, but Lisa turns into a puddle of goo once the love interest steps in.

I have to say that this movie focuses primarily on the Simpsons themselves, and not as much on the other townsfolk of Springfield.

Yeah, is this from perhaps one of the best eras of any show on tv or retread pop culture trash on par with Family Guy's stupidity?

SI

My theory on the later seasons of the Simpsons is that it's fan base has largely outgrown it. I just don't see that it's as bad as everyone else does. Different, sure, but the writers have recycled many times over, so that's unavoidable.

Of course, most people who trash the later years of the Simpsons then admit they don't actually watch the show anymore, so, I don't know.

That was going to be my exact question. There are two, distinctly different types of simpson humour. Good and bad.

I trash most of the episodes past season 11/12 because almost every one I watched was not funny.

In the really good seasons of the Simpsons, when it was good it was great, and when it was bad, it was still good. These days, when it is good, it is great, but when it is bad, it is unwatchable. Much more hit and miss than in the past, but still plenty good. The last half of this past season was fantastic.

I'm excited for the movie.

Hey, there was no way they were going to keep the Simpsons at top-notch quality for this long a period of time. When you have a show with basically the same characters who don't age, there really is only so much you can do with that. I was thinking they would probably put it all together for the movie, though. Sounds promising.

Hilarious movie for the most part. There's a few gags that didn't work or were too much of a reach, but overall it was a lot funnier than I thought it'd be.

Coolest moment: A good 1/2 to 2/3rd of the theatre sang along when the Spider Pig song came on.

Definitely worth watching for even the casual Simpsons fan. Really makes me miss the days when the Simpsons were undoubtedly the best show on TV.

Moment where I laughed so hard I could barely breathe: The sex scene where the animals are part of foreplay (that's right...I went there )

"OKAY BOOB LADY!" and the shadow of the boobs casting over Homer was a priceless moment for me.

Also, IIRC, I think it's the first time we've seen genitalia and the middle finger in the Simpsons.

7/10. It was funny, but not brilliant. At some point, the idea that Homer is an idiot who hits himself has to get old.

Those were some great moments. When they all escaped from the Dome and Homer giving the mob the finger and the mob scratching his head (along with the red arrow (so I know who I kill)) was great.

Overall, it was well worth the money to see. My wife even liked it.

It was good, but it wasn't as good as the show was at its peak. But there were lots of laughs. Certainly better than recent seasons of the show.

i dont think the movie could have been THAT much better if it came out 10 years ago at its peak

my friend was telling me the episode in season 8, i think it is (where homer takes a job working for hank scorpio - the nicest evil man ever - played by albert brooks - and they move to cypress creek was the original simpsons movie plot. there are certainly similarities between the episode and the movie.

all in all, i loved the movie.

Didn't that joke happen in Family Guy in Peterotica? I also swear I've heard it in a terrible film starring the Rob Schnieder guy (when he plays a woman trapped in a man's body).

Season 8 is probably my fave, and largely because of Grimesy and Scorpio.

I saw the movie last Friday and thought it was a lot of fun. It certainly wasn't just a 90 minute long episode as it was in many places a lot more "adult" than is usual from the simpsons, and it was a touch more epic.

The writing in general was definately more circa season 8 than the latest seasons (though I haven't watched the past few seasons), though there was the occassional non-joke which felt straight out of a recent episode. Thankfully they were pretty few.

Though I haven't seen it said, I'm fairly certain that every character from every episode made an appearance. I would have liked for some of them to have been more involved in the story, and that's probably my only real complaint with the movie.

Let me just put in my vote for Lionel Hutz as my favorite Simpsons ancillary character ever...followed by Rainier Wolfcastle.
