GUINEVERE

Gender: Feminine Usage: English, Welsh Mythology Pronounced: GWIN-e-veer [key]

Old French form of the Welsh name Gwenhwyfar, which is composed of the elements gwen meaning "fair, white" and hwyfar meaning "smooth". In Arthurian legend she is the beautiful wife of King Arthur.

...and she could be called Gwen for the short, everyday usage like "Down, Gwen!" "No Gwen!" "Stay Gwen"....yeah, our dog is part of our family. When she was a puppy I wasn't sure what was more trying, training her or raising the kids. Now she's "middle aged", the kids are teenagers, and I can't remember the last time I had to raise my voice at home (on the highway? Yeah, but that's a different thread). Puppies are awesome, but all the years after you train them are better.

My cat's proper name is "Offside" (like the soccer call). We started calling him "OS" for short, making the "S" hard. Now he's just Oz.

I think I read somewhere that two-sylable names that end with an "ee" sound are the best for getting a dogs attention. Think Lassie, Lucy, Mugsy, Sparky, etc.
