Jacksonville Jaguars: An FOF2K7 Hybrid Empty Cupboard House Arrest Dynasty

FOF2K7 "House Arrest" Dynasty

It's 2024. I've built a dominant Atlanta Falcons team through the draft, to the point that I'm bored with it. I decided to go with a career with some fairly restrictive house rules. I could pick any team in the league at this point, so I went with the one in a tough situation for an Empty Cupboad start. The rules highlighted in red should make the bigger differences in difficulty.

HOUSE RULES
STAFF
  • No hiring new staff until contracts have run out.
  • All staff members must be "home-grown." In other words, no staff members that have worked for another team.
STADIUM
  • No restrictions.
FRANCHISE TAG
  • Can only be used on a player once in his career.
TICKET PRICES
  • No restrictions.
SUMMER LEAGUE
  • Can only be used on a pick from the 5th round or later, or an undrafted free agent.
RENEGOTIATIONS
  • Can do as many cap outs as I want.
  • Apart from cap outs, only three renegotiations per year are allowed. They must be done in Week 1 of FA1, and the players must fit one of the following criteria:
    • a. started 8 or more games last year
    • b. has a current rating that would place him as a starter when ranked with the other players at his position group.
  • Franchise player counts as one of the three renegotiations per year, if he's signed to a new contract.
  • Holdouts are exempt from the three-per-year rule; I can sign them to a new deal to get them to play, since the new deal is always more of a cap hit than the old deal.
FREE AGENTS
  • No signing FAs with future rating of 40 or above, unless it's a player whose most recent season was on my team, or he is a rookie.
  • My own restricted free agents can only be signed in FA2 (on the open market).
  • No one-year deals for free agents.
  • No upping offers during free agency. (Once I've made an offer, it's there for good.)
TRADING
  • No trading up more than 10 spots in the first round. No other restrictions.
GAME PLANS AND DEPTH CHARTS
  • No restrictions on game plans (at least in the beginning). I will do these myself.
  • The AI will be responsible for depth charts and playing time settings.
OTHER SETTINGS
  • Injuries=200.
  • Cap increase range from 60 to 90. I'm told this helps make it easier for the AI to keep its players.
  • All draft picks must be signed to the shortest, most expensive option (the 2nd or 4th option, depending on when he was drafted).
  • Modified Empty Cupboard start, with the team in the worst overall situation for such a start: Jacksonville. They have the 31st pick, but no pick in the 5th round, making them a slightly worst option than SFO, who has the #32. "Modified" start meaning that I will release all players on the roster, then adhere to my house rules the rest of the way. So, it won't be all first-year players the first season, but it will be a group of draft picks, undrafted free agents, and guys rated 40 or less. I'm doing this to allow myself to have mentors from the start.

I went absolutely formulaic here. Grabbed a guy rated future 39 or less at every position I could who was a mentor with high leadership and personality.

AMATEUR DRAFT
We had bad luck on the first draft class. It was top-heavy, and somewhat sparse in the middle. I decided in the first couple of rounds to go with more sure-thing best player available types, since I figure to draft very high for the next 2 or 3 seasons. Grabbed some riskier guys, including two QBs on the second day to get mentored and see if one might be able to pan out. Here are the details:

Pick POS LAST FIRST Scout Cur1 Fut1 Cur2 Fut2 Best Worst
1(31) LCB Farrell Conrad HTR 32 53 32 54 Bump/Int/Endurance Run/M2M/Punish
2(31) FS Rodgers Julio VU 17 24 22 33 Zone/Punish Run/Diagnose/M2M
3(31) RDE Stevens Roderick VO 22 50 22 42 Run/Strength Technique/Punish
4(31) QB Micalles Nolan OR 12 54 12 51 Scrn/Timing/SenseRush Medium/Third
6(31) QB Robertson Hunter VU 18 34 20 38 SenseRush/Scramble Short/Third
7(31) LT Lefebvre Wesley HTR 13 46 14 46 PassBlk RunBlk

The "Cur1" and "Fut1 are the initial, meaningless-for-most-players ratings. Cur2 and Fut2 are the post-training camp numbers. Farrell looks like he'll be a solid second corner if we can acquire a shutdown guy soon. Rodgers was an incredibly obvious pick for someone who'd make very large ratings gains. I suspect that he'll top out around 50 or so overall, and his zone defense looks like it will be in the 70s or even the 80s. I'm excited to see Hunter Robertson's jump, and Lefebvre staying right where he was. I may need to cut Micalles to get Robertson playing time.

For that matter, with these mentors on the team, I've decided to be a little more flexible with setting the depth charts, at least for the first few seasons. I don't want the vets starting over my future guys. I'll plug in my draftees (besides Micalles, of course) and the creepers mentioned below as starters, and let Coach Rex do the rest. Also, I'm going to just let the AI do the game planning for the first couple of seasons or so.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

The following undrafted free agents showed us something in camp, and will probably earn starting spots this year as a result:
  • C Leo Lockwood: 13/26-->17/30
  • RG Ernest Booker: 17/29-->20/32
  • SLB Ty Colbert: 19/23-->20/28
  • MLB Joel Warfield: 16/19--->18/24
  • RCB Dusty Carlisle: 10/23-->13/27
SEASON OUTLOOK

RB Ray Reynolds is an intriguing player from the first year. After the season, he's our second-highest current rated player (39) next to 1st round draft pick Farrell (45). The undrafted FA was 31/45 initially, 32/46 postcamp, and is now 39/46. He seemed to run pretty well, considering the offensive line he was running behind.

Nothing particularly notable in the stats. Pretty standard for year 1 Empty Cupboard.

AWARDS/RECORDS
LCB Conrad Farrell was 2nd-team All Pro. No big shocker there for our 1st-round pick. He and Rodgers combined to give us a pretty decent secondary, all things considered.

END-SEASON COMMENTS
We've got work to do. No surprise there. What is a surprise is that because we played better than expected, we start out with a Top 10 pick for next year. Ouchers.

Nice find with Reynolds - I take it URFA's with future potential of more than 40 are allowed then

Oh yeah, absolutely rookies. I should have written that out. In my mind I meant vets there. The purpose of that house rule is so that I never go out and sign a veteran free agent to be a starter/impact player.

2025 REPORT

RETIREMENTS
My mentor safety, WR and RB retire. I'll just replace them. You don't care what their names are, and I don't know what their names are.

PRELIMINARIES
SUMMER LEAGUE: Easy choice. QB Robertson.
FRANCHISE TAG: None.

FREE AGENCY
First off, FS Julio Rodgers continues to have his true colors revealed. He's up to 31/38 at this juncture (was drafted at 17/24). Yup, he's +14, and hasn't seen his second training camp yet. QB Hunter Robertson also continues in ascent. He's at 26/40, but it's an absolutely fascinating draft class, with six QBs having adjusted ratings of 6.0 or higher. I should be able to get one of the four that my scout says is Underrated or Very Underrated, so I tend to doubt that Robertson is the future.

AMATEUR DRAFT
One of the QBs that I was eyeballing fell to #11, and after that, lots fell into place for what I believe will be a stellar draft, with five or six long-term starters coming out of it. Here are the details:

Pick POS LAST FIRST Cur1 Fut1 Cur2 Fut2 Best Worst
1(11) QB Kirk Shannon 26 57 27 59 Third/Med/Scramble Timing
2(10) FS Gleason Mickey 22 45 26 53 Zone/Punish Run
3(9) LDT Tully Jeff 24 29 27 37 Punish/PR Strength Run, Technique, Diag
4(12) LCB Totten Mike 19 50 22 49 M2M Punish, Run, Diag
5(11) MLB Reed Morris 12 26 15 31 PR Strength, Zone M2M, Bump
6(10) WLB Russell Calvin 16 37 21 43 M2M, PR Strength Punish, PR Tech
7(9) SE Blades Mo 12 24 13 24 Big Play, Route Run AvDrps,3rd Down

Kirk probably won't be a superstar, but should be a solid QB. Gleason is a 6'4", 227-pound guy who runs a 4.47. I'm moving him over to strong safety, due to Julio Rogers being solid at FS.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

2nd-year undrafted FA RT Charles Spencer gained +7/+7 to get to 22/36, and gets a starting spot.

SEASON OUTLOOK

Hard to say. This bunch surprised me by winning six last year, and we're unquestionably better. Still, on paper we're lagging quite a bit behind the rest of the league. I'm not really sure what to expect this year.

SEASON RESULTS
I guess the 6-10 wasn't a fluke. On paper, we looked better this year, and we *were* better this year.

2025 Regular Season (9-7) Passing Rushing Receiving Attendance

Week 17 34 Indianapolis Colts 7 S.Kirk 22-32-234 R.Reynolds 21-46 B.Loupe 3-51 95,500

A 5-2 start, including that 49-24 thumping of an Oakland team that would go 10-6 and make the playoffs, gave us delusions of grandeur, but the three-game losing streak brought us back down to earth. Still, a winning season of year 2 Empty Cupboard is not something to which I'm accustomed, and I'm not sure why it happened. I handled the depth charts again, but the AI did all of the game planning.

As you can see, the strengths of this team were in the running game and pass defense. Those youngsters patrolling the secondary in particular did a great job, and probably would have been ever more impressive were it not for an injury limiting LCB Conrad Farrell to playing only 8 games. 2nd-year man Dusty Carlisle struggled in his absence, but as figured, SS Mickey Gleason is an absolute beast, and FS Julio Rogers only allowed 18 catches versus 10 passes broken up in 12 games. QB Shannon Kirk did reasonably well for a rookie QB with no decent receivers, and he developed from 27/59 postcamp to 44/59 at the end of the season.

AWARDS/RECORDS
SS Mickey Gleason was Defensive Rookie Of The Year and a First-Team All Pro. He picked off 4 passes, running back two for TDs, defensed 17 passes versus 32 catches, and had 84 tackles, 23 assists, and 1 sack.

END-SEASON COMMENTS
I didn't expect to be in a position to target improving specific parts of my team quite this early, but it looks like the secondary is set for years to come, and the defense and running game overall are pretty dadgum good. I need to get some receiving targets for Shannon Kirk, probably more than anything else.

I need to add a house rule to go along with the no signing of RFAs until FA2.

The three extensions per year can not be used on players with less than 4 years of experience.

This way, I'll be forced to bid on all RFAs of any value.

2026 REPORT

RETIREMENTS
My mentors at T, S, TE and DT retired.

PRELIMINARIES
SUMMER LEAGUE: Last year's 4th round pick, RCB Mike Totten, gets sent overseas for some extra seasoning.
FRANCHISE TAG: None.

FREE AGENCY
UNMASKING OF NOTE
QB Hunter Robertson goes up another +7/+4 to 34/45. Looks like he'll be a very solid backup for Kirk. Undrafted FA RG Ernest Booker unmasks seven more 7 points, to 41/41. Guess there's one reason for our running game working well, eh? Our third round pick from last year, LDT Jeff Tully, is now at 36/42, up from 24/29 at the draft. SLB Ty Colbert, a FA rookie grab I made two years ago who was 19/23 at the time, is now 37/37 with a bullet (+6 at this stage). MLB Joel Warfied, a former 16/19 player, is now showing 33/33. Last year's sixth round pick, WLB Calvin Russell (16/37 at the time), evaluates at 30/46 now. And of course, our two likely-stud safeties continue revealing their true colors. Rogers is in only his third season and is already +23 (17/24-->47/47), and Gleason, in year 2, is +14 (22/45-->41/59). I should change the franchise nickname to the Jacksonville Creepers.

RENEGOTIATIONS
FS Julio Rodgers: He's in the last year of his rookie contract, and I know I want him long-term. I ink him to a 4-year deal.

AMATEUR DRAFT
This looks like a pretty sparse draft class, at least for the positions I'm after. I'm writing this before I start the draft, and I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be one of my worst drafts ever.
Pick POS LAST FIRST Cur1 Fut1 Cur2 Fut2 Best Worst
1(16) RDT Fennell Gabe 61 67 65 71 All but run defense. Run Defense

4(17) FB Nakamura Antoine 22 36 27 46 BlkStr, PwrInside Hole Recog, Blitz
I grabbed a few guys who I think could be of help, but then just traded out the last three picks. It's very unusual that there was literally only one player left that I would even consider wanting on my team when my fifth round pick came up, and he was a guy way down the board that I was certain I could pick up as an undrafted free agent. Considering how unimpressive this draft class was in terms of positions I needed, scoring hits on 2.5 out of 4 picks ain't that bad.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

Nothing else really worth noting. Lots of unmasking at the beginning of FA1 this year, but not much movement in either direction in training camp apart from two of my draftees, mentioned above.

SEASON OUTLOOK

We improved mainly by experience this year, although adding Fennell to the D-line should certainly prove to be helpful. Our roster rating is 49 this year, a significant relative improvement from last year, when we were around 10. Still, I don't think we're a playoff team just yet.

Incidentally, I'm ready to make the switch to what my house rules demand: I'm running the game plan now, and the AI is controlling the depth chart.

SEASON RESULTS

I reckon I need to start believing in this team...

With the lack of a solid crew of receivers, I went with a shorter-than-SkyDog-normal passing game, with a mixture of two backs in the running game, at it was pretty doggone effective. Injuries plagued the secondary, though, or we might have challenged for the division title even.

QB Shannon Kirk is starting to look like the real deal, even without anyone resembling a go-to receiver. Having the #5 scoring offense in the league is not something I remotely expect in the third year of an Empty Cupboard career.

AWARDS/RECORDS
None.

END-SEASON COMMENTS
Hard to think it this early, but this team appears to have arrived. If we can get a decent receiver or two, we look like we can be flat-out dangerous.

RETIREMENTS
Just my mentor G.

PRELIMINARIES
SUMMER LEAGUE: Bucky Griffith, an undrafted center I picked up as a FA, gets sent over.
FRANCHISE TAG: None.

FREE AGENCY
UNMASKING OF NOTE
FB Antoine Nakamura, 2nd year, drafted at 22/36, is up to 37/49.
C Leo Lockwood, 4th-year undrafted FA, is 13/26-->41/41
LDT Jeff Tully, the 3(9) pick from 2025 is 24/29--->45/45
RDT Gabe Fennell unmasked 23 points during the regular season last year, putting him at 94/94.
WLB Calvin Russell, our 6(10) pick in 2025, is 16/37--->47/51
SS Mickey Gleason continues to show that he is who I thought he was: 22/45-->60/67
Ditto FS Julio Rodgers: 17/24-->50/50

RENEGOTIATIONS
LCB Conrad Farrell: Locked up to a 4-year deal.
WLB Calvin Russell: Also a four-year deal.
RB Ray Reynolds: Was asking for a relatively low bonus ($1M per year) for a five-year deal, so I lock him up, knowing I can cut him if need be.

AMATEUR DRAFT

The class looks solid, and (typing this before training camp), I feel like I got some very nice steals, maybe six or seven starters, even. There are also two undrafted guys I think might be worth of wearing the Jaguar uniform. Here's the class:

Pick POS LAST FIRST Cur1 Fut1 Cur2 Fut2 Best Worst

6(24) SS Gray Irving 21 51 22 48 BnR RunDef
7(23) RDE McCombs Alan 16 31 18 35 PRStrength PRTech

Looks like it won't turn out quite as good as I'd hoped, but it looks like I'll get five or six starter-quality players out of this draft, and that's certainly nothing to sneeze at.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

Nothing else really worth noting. Several old crappy mentors dropped a bunch of points, but that's meaningless.
SEASON OUTLOOK

The roster rating is up to 82, and the team has been performing. At this point, we should expect to contend for a division title.

END-SEASON COMMENTS
Guess these house rules aren't tough enough. Oh well. I'll keep playing, at least for a while. There's always the fun of having it chronicled.

House rule change:

It got a little too easy too quickly. Henceforth, this is a pure "Home-Grown" dynasty: no players who have ever played for another franchise, and no staff members who have ever been employed by another franchise. No exceptions for mentors. All other house rules still apply. In the upcoming season, I'll release every player who isn't home grown.

2028 REPORT

RETIREMENTS
None.

PRELIMINARIES
SUMMER LEAGUE: Ernest Neigebauer, an undrafted CB I picked up as a FA, gets sent over.
FRANCHISE TAG: None.

FREE AGENCY

UNMASKING OF NOTE
QB Shannon Kirk continues to reveal himself as the player I thought he was. He's up 5 more future points, to 67/67.
FB Antoine Nakamura, 3rd year, drafted at 22/36, is up to 56/56--six more future points than last year.

RENEGOTIATIONS
SS Mickey Gleason: Locked up to a 4-year deal.
FB Antoine Nakamura: We wants and receives a deal locking him up through 2033.
QB Hunter Robertson: Backup QB gets a three-year deal, although I'll probably end up trading him before it's over.

INJURY NOTE:
Starting FS Julio Rodgers ruptured an elbow tendon in the Front Office Bowl last year, and is listed as Out (30 Weeks). He goes on IR and will miss all of 2028.

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I felt pretty meh about this draft class when I saw it, and feel likewise about my draft. Grabbed two risky WRs since I need them. I feel good about the picks in rounds 4-6. I have zero reason to believe that Hagan is really an 84 player, but perhaps he won't drop too much, and he could end up being useful.

POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: It looks like Steven "Skyscraper" Rudis is going to be a player. (He's 6'8" tall, thus the moniker.) And Hagans gaining a point was a shocker. I didn't really need antoher center, so I switch him to right guard after camp. Looks like this draft class will turn out a lot better than I'd hoped.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

We get offered a 2nd round pick and a player for QB Hunter Robertson, so I decide it's time to shop him, and sure enough, I'm able to get a 2nd and a 5th for him, so he's gone.

2028 ROSTER
Player Pos Start Exp Cur Fut Cntrct Comments
Kirk, Shannon QB QB 4 68 68 2 yrs He has been our starter from the day he was drafted. Threw 21 INTs last year, so I'm a little concerned about that aspect of his game.
Micalles, Nolan QB 5 24 50 3 yrs Former fourth round pick has fluctuated in ratings, but looks like a decent option as a backup.
Fulton, Doug QB 1 6 40 1 yr. Undrafted FA who was +5 in his first training camp. Will be watching him.
Reynolds, Ray RB RB 5 41 41 4 yrs Tailed off to 3.85 ypc last season. I need a little more out of him.
##Burton, Ron RB 2 39 43 2 yrs Was a 28/38 player when drafted in the 5th round last year. Starts the season with a minor injury, but looks like he could be the future.
Hill, Mitch RB 1 14 24 2 yrs Roster filler who probably wouldn't have made the team if Burton didn't enter the regular season with a bad hammy.
Nakamura, Antoine FB FB 3 56 56 6 yrs Dramatic ratings improvement since he was drafted 4(17) as a 22/36 player. Averages 6.35 yards per target receiving, and can block.
Godfrey, Calvin FB 5 35 35 1 yr. Decent-blocking backup.
Rayburn, Ernest TE TE 5 47 47 3 yrs Undrafted free agent who's good at blocking but not a receiver.
Brewer, Bill TE 5 41 41 1 yr. Ditto Rayburn.
Wright, Lorenzo FL FL 2 38 54 3 yrs 1(23) pick looks like he'll be a decent receiver, but not a star. Only rated 6/11 in Avoid Drops.
Bullock, Jerome FL 1 16 42 2 yrs Converted RB who probably will never amount to much.
##Alexander, Vince FL 1 15 31 2 yrs Gained three future points in training camp this year. I'm hoping this undrafted rook will creep into being a useful player.
##Weber, Lorenzo FL 1 13 23 3 yrs 2(31) pick who didn't improve as much as I'd hoped. Probably will never be starter quality, but I'll probably hang on to him through his rookie contract.
Gomez, Darnell SE SE 1 25 40 3 yrs 3(31) pick who probably won't be any better than WR4 quality, but is a starter for now.
Harwell, Chris SE 1 21 41 2 yrs Undrafted FA roster filler.
Griffith, Bucky C C 3 54 61 3 yrs So far, this undrafted free agent is looking like a nice find.
Shepherd, Sammie C 3 49 53 1 yr. House rules may hurt me here. There are signs that Shepherd is a better player than Griffith. I may trade Griffith to get Shepherd playing time.
##Lockwood, Leo C 5 43 43 1 yr. Undrafted FA roster filler.
Booker, Ernest LG LG 5 43 43 1 yr. Decent starter. Former undrafted FA.
Lucky, Vernon LG 1 32 42 3 yrs 5th round pick who increased by a couple of points this year. Looks like a potential future starter.
Hagans, Joe RG RG 1 39 87 3 yrs I may have gotten incredibly fortunate with this 7th round pick. Time will tell.
Fletcher, Jerry RG 2 38 53 2 yrs If Hagans pans out, I sense a trade in this young man's future.
Muka, Lamont RG 2 38 47 2 yrs Former 5(25) pick who is probably no better than a career backup.
Lefebvre, Wesley LT LT 5 35 35 1 yr. This 7th round pick has performed pretty well as the starter at such a critical position.
Snyder, Timothy LT 5 29 34 3 yrs Has been a decent backup so far.
Doan, Ronald RT 1 19 47 3 yrs 4(31) pick this season who seems to have a shot at being something decent.
Spencer, Charles RT RT 5 39 39 1 yr. This guy has gone from being an 11/27 undrafted free agent to a pretty solid starter.
Thames, Reuben P 3 55 55 2 yrs Power=54, Hang Time=74, Directional=31
Butkiewicz, Floyd K 5 60 60 3 yrs Very accurate kicker who was 1st Team All-Pro last year. Has hit 86.1% of his FGs in his career.
Stevens, Roderick LDE LDE 5 38 41 1 yr. Had 13 sacks back in 2025, but hasn't been all that impressive since then.
Rudis, Steven RDE RDE 1 42 47 4 yrs Nicknamed "Skyscraper" for his 6'8" frame, this rook looks like he'll be a serious threat to QBs in the league.
Vos, Omar RDE 3 38 38 2 yrs Third round pick who hasn't shown us much so far.
McCombs, Alan RDE 2 25 37 2 yrs 7th round pick from last year who has crept up six points so far.
##Wilson, Richie RDE 1 11 24 1 yr. Creeping undrafted guy.
Fennell, Gabe LDT LDT 3 94 94 2 yrs Outstanding pickup at 1(16). I was pretty certain his ratings were too low, but I didn't think they'd increase 27 points.
Tully, Jeff RDT RDT 4 48 48 1 yr. Has crept nicely since being a 24/29 3(9) pick.
Irwin, Vinny RDT 1 25 46 3 yrs Was +3 in training camp this year
Reed, Morris MLB MLB 4 41 41 1 yr. Decent starter for a 5th round pick, but nothing special.
Warfield, Joel MLB 5 36 36 1 yr. Likewise, decent backup for an undrafted free agent.
Burns, Aaron SLB SLB 2 48 48 2 yrs Has crept 8 points since last year, and seems like he may be able to become a very solid starter.
Colbert, Ty SLB 5 41 41 2 yrs Averaged over 80 tackles in three years as a starter.
Russell, Calvin WLB WLB 4 53 53 3 yrs This guy was an outstanding find as a 16/37 6(10) draftee.
Cox, Carlton WLB 2 26 33 1 yr. Roster filler.
Neigebauer, Ernest LCB LCB 2 43 61 1 yr. Talk about rags to riches, this undrafted rookie free agent started at left cornerback in the Front Office Bowl last year!
Farrell, Conrad RCB RCB 5 51 51 3 yrs First pick made in this dynasty has yet to have a PDPct under 80.7 in any season.
Totten, Mike RCB 4 42 42 3 yrs Totten has settled in as a nice nickel back, putting up an 83.4 PDPct for his career.
Cooley, Jack RCB 1 22 39 2 yrs Undrafted FA who gained one point in training camp. Maybe a dime back one day.
Gleason, Mickey SS SS 4 68 68 4 yrs Grabbed him at 2(10) as a 22/45 guy, extremely confident that he was much better than advertised. Won DROY and hasn't looked back since.
%%Rodgers, Julio FS 5 53 53 2 yrs Another big-time creeper. 2(31) draft pick as a 17/24 player. He's out for the year with a Ruptured Elbow Tendon.
##Gray, Irving FS 2 30 47 2 yrs Last year's 6(24) pick will miss over half the year with a High Ankle Sprain.
Samuels, Freddie FS FS 1 19 33 2 yrs Pressed into duty due to injuries to starters. Because I decided to go strictly home grown this year, he's the best option I can get…
Stephens, John FS 1 11 29 2 yrs …and he's the second best.

SEASON OUTLOOK

The roster rating is up to 96. Division rival Tennessee has the only 100. We probably should contend for the whole shebang.

I'm starting to get a bit worried about Kirk's propensity for interceptions, considering he has thrown over twenty two straight seasons. That being said, we really only have one good wide receiver, so that may be the issue.

Concerns about Reynolds were perhaps overblown, shall we say? In the 23 seasons of the franchise's existence, no one has rushed for more yards or better ypc in a season. Great year for him, and Burton was no slouch as a backup, either.

We were easily the best running team in the league. It sounds like a mantra, but we've GOT to improve the passing game if we're going to win a title.

AWARDS/RECORDS
  • LDT Gabe Fennell was a First Team All Pro with 64 solo tackles, 31 assists, 10 sacks, 3 blocked passes, 9 hurries, and 24 QB knockdowns.
  • RB Ray Reynolds set team records for yards per carry and rushing yards.

END-SEASON COMMENTS
Now that more players' contracts are coming to an end, and more of them are unmasked to the point that the AI might be interested in them, perhaps it'll start becoming a little more difficult to keep the team together. So far, no one else is going after the guys I'm re-signing on the open market.

PRELIMINARIES
SUMMER LEAGUE: FL Chris Harwell

UNMASKING OF NOTE
SLB Aaron Burns continues to reward that 3(24) pick we spent on the then-28/40 player. He's now up to 54/54.

Not a big creep, but important to note that he still did despite the season-long injury. It's worth noting that FS Julio Rogers is fully healed, and gains two points, passing the +30 mark overall in his potential. He was 17/24 when drafted 2(31) in 2024. Now, he's 55/55.

RENEGOTIATIONS
Yeah, now that our star players are starting to have contracts nearing the end, I suppose some key decisions will start needing to be made. I have seven guys with future potential of 52 or higher in the final year of a contract (including franchisee Tully), and nine such players next year. The seven this year are LDT Fennell, QB Kirk, RG Fletcher, P Thames, FS Rodgers, SLB Burns and RDT Tully. Fennell and Kirk are automatics for the first two deals, and I also sign FS Rodgers to the third. I'll franchise one of the others next year, and have to sign the others on the open market. Fennell and Rodgers get five-year deals, and Kirk gets a six-year contract.

A LOOK BACK
(A look at our draft from five seasons ago.)

Pick POS LAST FIRST Cur1 Fut1 Cur2 Fut2 CurNow FutNow
1(31) LCB Farrell Conrad 32 53 32 54 51 51
2(31) FS Rodgers Julio 17 24 22 33 55 55

4(31) QB Micalles Nolan 12 54 12 51 22 50
6(31) QB Robertson Hunter 18 34 20 38 53 53
7(31) LT Lefebvre Wesley 13 46 14 46 37 37

Given that we had the 31st pick overall, and no fifth round pick, drafting three starting-quality players, including a QB, two decent backups and one other likely starting-quality QB ain't bad. Rodgers has played like a star, and Robertson got his first starting gig last year, for Seattle, and turned in an 88.1 QB Rating.

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I feel VERY good about getting Hopkins to help the WR corps. Because I don't need to fill many slots, I took some risks with the other picks. I'm guessing that at first glance, this draft will look like the worst we've had so far. Part of me thinks I should have just traded out after the 2nd round.

POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: Hopkins ain't gonna disappointment me, it would appear. I'm pleasantly surprised to see Favre and Dolinko hold their ratings, and a little disappointed to see May have no movement. The others don't really surprise me.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

There was a LDT named Scottie Gillespie a good way down the draft list who I liked, but went undrafted. I don't need another DT, but I grabbed him as a FA. As expected, he had a nice climb in camp: 26/31-->29/36. I may trade one of the more unmasked DTs.

SEASON OUTLOOK

The roster rating has hit 100. GB is second in the league at 87, so we're allegedly the best team in the league by a decent margin. Can we show it?

We looked great, until we ran into the team that I built, before taking over Jax, in the Front Office Bowl.

We're now a dominant team, despite the fact that we are using less than 70% of the cap. Right now, there's really nothing of concern, other than deciding which players to keep around with those three precious extensions per season.

AWARDS/RECORDS
FB Antoine Nakamura earned 2nd Team All Pro honors on the strength of 30 catches for 292 yards, and 14 for 35 KRB with 3 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed.
MLB Morris Reed was 2nd Team All Pro as well, hi candidacy no doubt bolstered by his 6.5 sacks and 3 interceptions.

END-SEASON COMMENTS
Well, my cap usage has increased, but it still hasn't hit the 70% mark. Still, AI teams are at least battling me on the open market for some of my players. It probably won't be challenging overall, but I do like the fact that these house rules are forcing me to make decisions that matter.

UNMASKING OF NOTE
Remember this guy?

Fulton, Doug QB 1 6 40 1 yr. Undrafted FA who was +5 in his first training camp. Will be watching him.

He's now up to 8/47, in year 3. Looks like he'll be at worst a solid backup QB.

Another undrafted FA, 2nd-year man LDT Scott Gillespie, gets a +4 to move to 32/40 (was 26/31 at draft).

RENEGOTIATIONS
Once again, seven guys with future potentials above 50 are in the final year of their respective contracts. They are RG Hagans, WLB Russell, C Griffith, K Butkiewicz, RDT Irwin, FL Wright, and QB Micalles. RG Hagans (64/87) is a no-brainer, and is WLB Russell (61/61). FL Lorenzo Wright isn't the highest-rated among the remaining group, but with 11.13 yards per target last year and 10.29 for his career, is the choice for the third long-term deal.

A LOOK BACK
(A look at our draft from five seasons ago.)
Pick POS LAST FIRST Cur1 Fut1 Cur2 Fut2 CurNow FutNow
1(11) QB Kirk Shannon 26 57 27 59 68 68

6(10) WLB Russell Calvin 16 37 21 43 61 61
7(9) SE Blades Mo 12 24 13 24 Out of football

This was a pretty stellar draft. The QB of the future, a stud safety, three other starters, and a solid nickel back came out of it. I definitely can't complain about the Class of 2025.

GOODBYE
RDE Omar Vos was Angry over playing time and I was unable to re-sign him. He heads to Philly.

AMATEUR DRAFT

Pick POS LAST FIRST Cur1 Fut1 Cur2 Fut2 Best Worst

2(31) FL Newhart Mitchell 28 42 31 48 BigPlay, ThirdDown AvDrops
6(31) RT Moln Jackie 23 49 26 51 BlkStrngth PassBlk, End

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I simply don't have room on my roster for many more players. There's a Center out there who went undrafted. I would have taken him in the third or fourth round if I'd had a need. I'm thinking about grabbing him as an undrafted free agent and converting him to defense. As far as my draftees, I feel very good about all three becoming starters eventually.

POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: No change in that thinking. All three should be very solid players, as expected.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

The C who I mentioned as an undrafted FA was picked up, converted to LDT, and went from 17/33-->19/39 in training camp. Nice! His name is Kevin Poel, and we may be hearing more from him later.

SEASON OUTLOOK

The next-best roster rating belongs to Atlanta, with a 76. This should be our year.

Burton's ratings are still climbing one or two points a year. (He's 28/38-->44/44 at the moment.) Reynolds is seeing a slight decline; he's down to 42/42. The AI switched their roles this year, and I certainly can't complain about the results. I was a little worried about Burton being able to be the feature back, but it looks like he'll be just fine until I can get a true stud.

I used a little over 74% of the cap this year. I do have five starters who will be free agents, so maybe this will get a bit harder in the next few seasons.

OK. I'm going to try no renegotiations whatsoever. If a guy holds out; he holds out.

Adding one more house rule: trading is only allowed as picks for picks. In other words, no trading away any excess good players. If I don't use 'em, I lose 'em.

RETIREMENTS
RB Ray Reynolds--Picked up as an UDFA in the first year of the dynasty, Reynolds had a very strong career. He won a rushing title, had three 1,000-yard seasons, averaged 4.59 yards per carry in his career. His best season was 2029, when he had 333 carries for 1,654 yards and 10 TDs. He took on a backup role last season, and then called it quits.
LT Wesley Lefebvre--He was the 7(31) pick in my first season at the helm, and started for six seasons before being relegated to backing up a rookie last year. He never allowed more than 9 sacks in a year, and had a career 37.3 KRBPct. His mentorship of the young tackles will be missed.

  • Undrafted LDTs Scottie Gillespie and Kevin Poel both look a good bit better. Gillespie is 26/31-->37/45, and Poel is 17/33-->23/43. Looks like they'll both be starting-quality players fairly soon.
  • RT Ronald Doan's mask comes off significantly this year, showing him 18/47-->57/57

I certainly can't complain about this draft. Fennell is a perennial All-Pro candidate. Shepherd has repeatedly shown himself to be better than our other, high-rated center. The AI didn't see fit to play Vos enough, so he jumped shipped in free agency last year and had a solid year as a starter in Philly. And I can't say for sure, but I believe that Nakamura's blocking has been a *big* part of the outstanding success of our running game.

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I didn't need a second WR in this draft, but I just couldn't pass up my curiosity in finding out who Haukioja really is. I have low confidence in Woodard and Fine, very little experience in drafting kickers, and pretty strong confidence in the others.
POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: Heh. Probably neither WR is going to pan out, but everyone else looks like they have a shot to be long-term Jaguars, and probably starter-quality players. Can't argue with that.
OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES

SE Thurman Hopkins got hit with a big-time veteran bust: 52/52-->23/23. I release him.
RDT Sean Favre gets moved to LDE due to the overabundance of DTs that I have. His ratings go from 33/53--->32/47.

This team looks loaded in a number of key areas. However, given the talent at RB/WR, I have to wonder if we're capable of taking it all without a "go-to" offensive threat.

AWARDS/RECORDS
RG Joe Hagans was 2nd Team All League. He had 11 pancakes to go along with a 39.4 KRB Pct and only 1 sack allowed.
The 91.4 PDPct that Julio Rodgers turned in this year was an all-time (26-season) Jax record.
Likewise Skyscraper Rudis set a team record with his 32 hurries this year.
END-SEASON COMMENTS
Cap usage is still hovering just a bit below 75%. I'm hoping that the House Rules change will begin to make keeping guys around a bit more difficult.

2032 REPORT

RETIREMENTS
LG Ernest Booker--Undrafted FA in 2024 who hung on to a starting position for six and a half seasons. He was 17/29-->44/44, as far as ratings go. Career 34.5KRB% and 10 pancakes. He lost his starting job in mid-2030, and had no starts last season.

PRELIMINARIES
SUMMER LEAGUE: RB Vernon Palmer
FRANCHISE TAG: No more.

UNMASKING OF NOTE
  • 3rd-year FL Mitchell Newhart, a 28/42 draftee, now shows 60/60 and could be that go-to guy I was seeking.
  • 3rd-year LT Lester Giacalone, a 43/61 draftee, is now looking like a 72/72 player.
  • K Karl Bradley, 48/50 in the draft, reports at 55/55
  • Our old buddy Kevin Poel, the C--->DT who was 17/33, shows 8 more points than last year: 28/50.
  • WLB Eugene Chinn, picked 4(29) as a 31/37 player in last year's draft, is 49/49.
  • Several other players show 2-3 point increases from last season. Too many to name. Reckon I've been drafting pretty well lately.

We look to be very well set here for years to come. Fulton and Woodard are both creeping upward, and Kirk's one of the best in the league, interceptions notwithstanding. He's also a mentor and is helping Woodard's development nicely.

Burton, Ron RB RB 6 45 45 1 yr.
##Palmer, Vernon RB 2 31 43 1 yr.
Dancy, Rich RB 1 25 36 3 yrs
This has been a position of concern. Burton's not getting any younger, and he struggled with injuries last year. His ypc dropped from 4.87 to 4.23. Dancy's probably better than advertised, but I wonder how *much* better.

Cox, Carlton WLB 6 28 28 2 yrs
This unit doesn't look all that impressive on paper, but it's actually, even on paper, one of the better ones in the league. There's a real lack of star linebackers right now. The league's best ILB is 70/70. Reed is a middle-of-the-pack starter there, ratings-wise. OLB is eevn more thin, considering that there are two starters for every team. Russell and Burns are both among the 10 highest-rated OLBs in the league. Russell is Out for 6 weeks with a broken tibia.

Fine, Marvin FS 2 24 39 2 yrs
If Joyner can hold down his corner, this looks to be one of the better secondaries in the league again. Gleason and Rodgers continue to stop the deep ball well year-in and year-out.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: As said before, if I can get better RB/WR production, we should be in the thick of the championship hunt. There's not a team in the league that can touch our overall talent at this point.

Great season! We overcame a couple of injuries to Kirk to finish 14-2, breezed through to the Front Office Bowl, and then won a defensive struggle with Tampa Bay for the title. Woohoo!!!

The front four in particular performed very well on defense. Teams couldn't run on us at all, and 14.8 ppg allowed certainly ain't too shabby, either.

AWARDS/RECORDS
Kirk won the Front Office Bowl MVP.
LT Lester Giacalone was named 2nd Team All Pro. He had more pancakes (7) than sacks allowed (5).

END-SEASON COMMENTS
Cap usage crept up to 78% for us, and I have seven starters (including Newhart) who will be FAs next year. This *might* at least start forcing a few meaningful roster decisions. Good to get that title monkey off of our backs. Now it's time to become a dynasty!

RETIREMENTS/PRELIMINARIES

SUMMER LEAGUE: RCB Keith Houston

FREE AGENCY
UNMASKING OF NOTE
  • QB Wendell Woodard continues his climb toward 60 or better. He's now 25/49-->44/56
  • RB Rich Dancy's climb could be very important. He's now 22/33-->30/39.
  • TE Darren Rubisch appears to be heading right where I was thinking. He's now 31/52-->57/62, in only his second season.
  • LDE Jamal Green is really showing some good stuff. He's now 24/37-->31/55. I hope the AI starts getting this guy some playing time soon.
  • 3rd-year WLB Eugene Chinn passes the +20 threshold already: 31/37-->58/58.
  • RCB Keith Houston isn't going to let me count him out:13/21-->22/26, including +3 this stage.
  • Converted S-->CB Rich Joyner is now 21/50-->52/62. He could be a star, I think.
  • FS Marvin Fine continues to show that the 12/30 initial assessment of him was bogus. He picked up five more future points to go to 32/44.
SIGNINGS
All eligible players re-signed with us. However, the cap may become relevant soon. At the end of FA-1, we're projected that our draftees plus current contracts will use 85.6% of the cap. Newhart is the only RFA requested big money, so we'll be comfortably under the cap this year. However, looking ahead, our best three current-rated players are all up for new deals next year, and then QB Kirk the following season. If backup QB Woodard continues to play well, I could foresee him being handed the reigns after next season is over.

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I just don't have room for many players on my roster at the moment, so I traded out after getting two picks. Neither of these picks are expected to be anything all that special. I did grab a handful of promising-looking undrafted free agents
POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: Nothing special, as expected. Both will probably be good enough to contribute.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES
  • It looks like age has caught up with RB Ron Burton. He drops from 45/45-->39/39
  • LDE Jamal Green unmasks even *more* in this stage. He's now showing 34/59, and looking like he'll be an outstanding fourth round pick.
  • Calvin Russell becomes a +32 overall with his jump to 69/69 in camp. He was 16/37 when drafted 6(10).
  • Age hits SS Mickey Gleason hard. He drops from 68/68-->57/57.
  • The undrafted FAs all gain a few scouted points. The one most worth noting at this point is FS Benjamin Jaax. He goes from 16/35-->18/40.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: RB and S are the only areas of concern. Injuries really have our safety situation struggling. Gleason will miss the entire year, and Rodgers is Out for 8 weeks to begin the season. We could be vulnerable to the deep ball.

SEASON RESULTS
Very good season, but we ran into a buzzsaw in KC in the AFC Championship. The Chiefs went 15-1 in the regular season and led the league in scoring.

The pass defense REALLY struggled in the early part of the year. We were dead last in ypa allowed after 6 or 7 games had been played. After Julio Rodgers came back, though, things got a lot better in the secondary.

AWARDS/RECORDS
  • In only his second season, TE Darren Rubisch earns 2nd Team All Pro honors on the strength of 47 catches for 655 with 7 TDs. He was also 9 for 24 in KRBs with 1 pancake.
  • The 42 hurries that Skyscraper Rudis had were a team record.
  • Gino Winslett had 378 punt return yards to set an all-time franchise mark in that category.
END-SEASON COMMENTS

We were up to 88% of the cap this year, and now we'll have 10 starters becoming free agents, including four of our five highest-rated players (LDT Fennell, RG Hagans, LT Giacalone, WLB Russell). Looks like next year will be decision time.

RETIREMENTS/PRELIMINARIES
None.
SUMMER LEAGUE: RB Herb Lindo

FREE AGENCY
UNMASKING OF NOTE
  • Good news / bad news on RB Rich Dancy. The good news is that he continues to be revealed as better than scouted. The bad is that his endurance rating only crept to 19. He's now 22/33-->39/41.
  • TE Darren Rubisch looks more and more like a top-tier TE as his career goes along. He shows 8 more points, making him now 31/52-->68/68
SIGNINGS/GOODBYES
Well, this is encouraging, and perhaps an effect of the increased cap range. The AI just plain outbid on two of my betters players, and grabbed 'em in Week 2. My highest-rated player, RG Joe Hagans, signs a three-year deal with Dallas. I don't remember the exact structure of my offer, but I know I had offered him a big contract--bigger than what he was requesting, but the AI offer was for more per-year money overall. The same thing is true for WLB Calvin Russell. The 70/70 rated former 6th round pick is stolen away by a two-year offer from Washington worth $30.71M. I offered $28M. This bad news for the team, but potentially good news for the challenge aspect of this. Heh, and after I'd written the first part of this paragraph, advancing farther along, LDT Fennell signed with the Dolphins. My three best free agents all jumped ship.

A LOOK BACK
(A look at our draft from five seasons ago.)
Pick POS LAST FIRST Cur1 Fut1 CurNow FutNow
1(24) SE Hopkins Thurman 27 37 out of football (veteran bust)

7(24) RG Powell Bo 21 34 24 32
This was easily my worst draft so far, although on the surface it may look worse than it was. Hopkins had all the signs of a good player, maybe even a star in the making. His ratings were creeping, and he was performing above his ratings, too. He averaged 9.41yards per target in his brief stine with us, but it appears that he just hit the plain ol' random veteran bust. His ratings nosedived from 52/52 to 23/23 in one training camp. Maybe he liked the wacky tobacky more than football, like Mr. Williams.

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I forgot to do interviews this year, so I decided to stay close to the shallow end. I expect these guys to neither improve nor drop much.
POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: Yup. No surprises here.

OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES
  • RB Ron Burton continues to age in a big way. 36/36-->25/25.
  • Give the loss of stud DT Fennell, Scott Gillespie's continued unmasking (33/40-->52/52) is very timely.
ROSTER/SEASON OUTLOOK
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Still no reason to believe we won't be among the top contenders. The passing game should be stellar, only hampered by Kirk's penchant for INTs. I'm a little concerned about the running game.

SEASON RESULTS
As has already been mentioned in the FOF2K7 forum, we put up some crazy offensive numbers without altering the offensive game plan at all, and it was punctuated by another title.

Wow! I did make some changes to the defensive game plan, but the addition of rookie CB Estes seemed to be big, too. Skyscraper Rudis went nutso, and Estes appeared to have a Deion-esque impact on or defense, except Estes can tackle, too. This was a stellar year all around.

AWARDS/RECORDS
  • QB Shannon Kirk earned the quadfecta this year with his other-worldly season: MVP, Front Office Bowl MVP, OPOY, 1st Team QB. To recap his numbers once again, he was 331 for 494 for 4461 yards with 54 TDs and 11 INTs.
  • Steven "Skyscraper" Rudis was named Defensive Player Of The Year. He had 23.5 sacks, 33 hurries, 49 knockdowns, 48 tackles, and 16 assists. His sack total set a team record.
  • LCB Melvin Estes was the Defensive Rookie Of The Year, and First Team All-Pro. He had 6 INTs, 24 passes defensed, 60 tackles, 12 assists, and 2 sacks.
  • FL Mitchell Newhart was 2nd Team All Pro with his 80 catches for 1322 yards and 17 TDs. The 17 TDs were a team record.
  • WLB Eugene Chin was another 2nd Team All Pro. He had 71 tackles and 6 sacks.
  • Kirk's 54 TD passes were an all-time league record, shattering the previous mark of 48 set by C.J. Oliveras Kirk set several single-season team records as well.
  • The 35.1ppg were an all-time league record.

END-SEASON COMMENTS
So we lost our three highest-rated players to free agency, and responded by turning in our best season ever. With the AI teams seeming to have more of a shot in free agency now, I'm curious to see where this is heading. Kirk is going to be a free agent, so things should get quite interesting.

2035 REPORT

RETIREMENTS/PRELIMINARIES
RCB Conrad Farrell calls it a career after 11 seasons. He was our first draftee in this thread, picked 1(31) as a 32/53 player in 2024. He topped out at 51/51, and was a full-time starter for 8 seasons. He compiled a career 81.2 PDPct, and is the team all-time leader in passes defensed, and he's second in interceptions.

Former backup RB Vernon Palmer, an undrafted FA, also hangs 'em up, due to the dreaded R.C.S.

SUMMER LEAGUE: SS T.J. Binette

UNMASKING OF NOTE
  • FS Benjamin Jaax gets a +4, making him 16/35-->40/48 overall.
SIGNINGS/GOODBYES
We had to spend more money this time, but I was able to retain all free agents. That being said, we may not have enough to sign all RFAs.

7(32) RB Wickman Kris 18 21 19 24

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I have high hopes for the first four picks. Wickman was a bit of a shot in the dark.
POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: I'm fairly certain that Fitzgerald wasn't a miss, but a random bust. I'm very disappointed to see Franklin post zero gains in training camp, though. I thought he'd be a steal. I wouldn't be surprised now if Wright ends up in the 90s

Due to financial concerns, we had to let long-time starter C Bucky Griffith become a FA. The 10-year vet who was undrafted is rated 50/50 still, and gets signed by Philly.

ROSTER/SEASON OUTLOOK

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Without question, we are in a position to repeat.

Kirk came back down to earth this year, but still played well enough to get us to the big game. The defense, which had been stellar all year long, kept us from this title. The offense played well enough in that one to win.

AWARDS/RECORDS
  • QB Wendell Woodard won the Front Office Bowl MVP in a losing effort. Going 24 for 41 for 358 yards with 2 TDs and 0 INTs will do that.
  • Steven "Skyscraper" Rudis was named Defensive Player Of The Year for the second consecutive season. The supposed 44/44 rated LDE. racked up 18.5 sacks, 38 hurries, 44 knockdowns, 50 tackles, and 18 assists. His sack total set a team record.
  • LCB Melvin Estes was a Second-Team All-Pro, and set a team record with 27 passes defensed.
  • The 10.1ppg allowed as a team set an all-time league record.
END-SEASON COMMENTS
We're up against the cap now, can't do renegotiations, and have seven starters whose contracts expire this year. Our current contracts have used $231.3M of what should be an approx $281M cap, but $50M probably won't be enough to keep everyone around and sign our draftees. We're not in danger of going 9-7 any time soon, but whether or not we can remain dominant with the house rule changes I've made remains to be seen.

I'm doing 2036 right now, but I'm thinking that after that, I'll make a radical shift in House Rules to Isle Of Misfit Toys. I'll keep around the guys I have, because I want to see how their careers pan out. However, starting in 2037, I will trade all draft picks away to a division rival.

2036 REPORT
RETIREMENTS/PRELIMINARIES
TE Ernest Rayburn hangs 'em up after an 12-year career with us. He was picked up as a 21/40 undrafted free agent back in 2024, got hurt in his very first preseason game, missed his entire rookie year, but then came back to have a long career with us. He was the starting TE for six seasons, and was rated as high as 49/49 before his numbers started to fall. He was more of a blocker than a receiver. His best receiving year was 2030, when he had a modest 31 catches for 299 yards with 1 TD.
The brittle FS Julio Rodgers finally calls it a career after 12 seasons. He was the 2(31) pick in 2024 for us, a guy scouted 17/24 but who was very obviously much better than that. His ratings got as high as 56/56, and he became the Jax all-time interception leader with 40. He also posted a career 83.6PDPct (third in team history). Due to injuries, he only played 16 games twice, but was listed as the starter for each one of his 12 seasons. 2031 was his best year, when he had 7 interceptions, 5 passes defensed, and only 19 catches allowed, good for a 91.4 PDPct.
SUMMER LEAGUE: RB Kris Wickman

UNMASKING OF NOTE
  • Backup QB Wendell Woodard is now up to 65/65. The former 3(27) pick is now the 7th-highest rated QB in the league.
SIGNINGS/GOODBYES
Well, we finally have to make multiple decisions to let players fly. The following veterans are not re-signed:
SS Mickey Gleason--He has been a stud when he's on the field. However, he has been too brittle lately to justify paying him the big bucks he wants. He signs a two-year high dollar deal with the Giants.
LG Vernon Lucky--This was a tough decision, since he was our only guard mentor, but in the end, I just couldn't afford to keep him around without him being a full-time starter. The Giants also get him.

Any draft in which a QB and CB rated 65 or better can be acquired has to be considered a success. Add to that a 62/62 WLB, a 59/59 DE, and three solid role players, and the 2031 draft has to be looked at as a smashing success.

PRECAMP THOUGHTS: I didn't *really* need one WR, let alone two, but it was hard to pass up the "hard to read" no-combine Antonio Clayton still sitting there at 4(17). As this will be my final draft for this team, I decided to take some risks.
POSTCAMP THOUGHTS: Man, I felt really good about McIntyre, but it looks like I missed on him. The gamble on Clayton may pay off.
OTHER TRAINING CAMP NOTES
  • Looks like age is catching up with Shannon Kirk. He dropped seven points to 66/66. Woodard gained a point to 66/66 as well. I wonder which one the AI will start.
  • The picking of an extra receiver may have been a good thing, after all. FL Lorenzo Wright fell off 8 points to 41/41. I release the #2 receiver in Jax history, as a result.
  • It looks like the Skyscraper is about to fall. Steven Rudis fell five points to 36/36.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Due to a minor injury to Kirk to start the season, the AI has Woodard set to start. It looks like Kirk will be the starter, though, once he's 100%. The talent gap between us and the rest of the league is decreasing, and surely will continue to do so as I move into the IMT stage of this dynasty..

There's really not a single aspect of this season to say much negative about. The switch to IMT is because this has just proven to be too easy, even with the house rules.
AWARDS/RECORDS
  • QB Wendell Woodard won the Front Office Bowl MVP for the second year in a row, but this time in a win. He was 23 for 34 for 301 yards with 5 TDs and 0 Ints in the 38-0 thrashing of the Vikings.
  • TE Darren Rubisch was 1st Team All Pro
  • LCB Melvin Estes was a Second-Team All-Pro.
END-SEASON COMMENTS
As I make the transition to IMT, I'm looking forward to continuing to see how my draftees do, but also to having some genuine holes to fill.

OK. I've decided how I'll phase in IMT. All players who joined the team in 2036 will be subject to the following house rules, until they're all off the team:

1. No holds barred for keeping them on the team through their 8th season in the league.
2. All players in year 9 or later must be released immediately, with the exception that any UNDRAFTED players who joined the team in 2036 or earlier can remain throughout their careers. After all, they belong here.

2037 REPORT
RETIREMENTS/PRELIMINARIES
MLB Morris Reed's career is over after 12 seasons with us. He was the 5(11) pick back in 2025. Reed was scouted as 12/26 coming out of the draft, but grew to a 44/44 player, and played well enough to hold down the starting job for 8 seasons, and even earned 2nd Team All Pro honors once.
SUMMER LEAGUE: RB Kris Wickman
FREE AGENCY
UNMASKING OF NOTE
  • 3rd-year LDT Marty Donaldson, a 31/45 draftee, is up to 53/60.

SIGNINGS/GOODBYES
Goodbye to a bunch of guys. No need to list here. See house rules above. New roster will be listed later in this post.

TRAINING CAMP NOTES
  • I wonder if the best find will be QB Lionel Madera. He was 10/25-->11/29, and has no zero ratings.
  • Another nice find looks to be RG Trevor Rose. He was 23/43-->26/46 in his first camp.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: With injuries at 200, some of my IMT guys should see significant playing time this year, and we've even got a couple who will be pressed into duty as full-time starters. As far as overall outlook, we should remain a very good team at least for this year and next. We've got a number of star players in years 6 and 7, though, so once they're gone, I expect to have to work a lot harder to win.
SEASON RESULTS
The releases of the vets definitely brought us back more into the pack of the top-tier teams, and we got smoked in the AFC Championship game. I have a feeling this is going to get more challenging pretty quickly.
