I don't know. I also don't know why they need 47 computers to have 2 stations of WoW going either. But either way, you have to admit it's an obsession that is impressive in its scope, execution and dedication...

Running multiple "boxes" means to simultaneously play multiple characters on the same game at the same time. For the beginning dual-boxer, this means running two installations of WoW and alt-tabbing between the two characters (on two different accounts). Using macros and autofollow, a skilled multiboxer can run two or three characters grouped together on the same server. I had heard of a guy who multiboxed a full group of six characters in EQ2.

If this guy is to be believed, he and his partner together run full raids with 40+ characters between the two of them. At once.

That is almost $700 a month in subscription fees.

A quick back of the envelope calculation shows that it's likely to be almost $300 a month in electricity.

So, what kind of job(s) provide enough money to afford/maintain that setup AND enough time to play it?

Probably playing WoW. I can't believe that he isn't farming and selling and/or leveling up characters for $...

I'm sure he's farming end-game instances for loot drops and gold, but given the prices for powerleveling services, I think he's got too much money tied up in his rig to be doing that on a regular basis.

During my 6 years of playing Everquest and WoW, I have only run across one person who was boxing (2), or at least admitted to it. And he wasn't very good.
