Football Manager Live

Football Manager Live is a new concept in football (soccer to you guys) management. Put your managerial skills to the test in a 'real-time' environment where you compete live and online against your friends or rivals.

Monthly cost etc. for the game haven't been set yet (they can't be realistically until server costings etc. are finalised).

Don't expect it to break the bank though ... it'll be something realistic.

I'm also highly intrigued. This could be what it takes to really suck me back into the FM scene.

My guess:

5 British pounds a month, which, by early 2008, will equal 300 US dollars.

This game is ideal for those with time constraints (women, kids, jobs) who want to dip in and out, get SMS messages when on the move to stay abreast of the latest developments in their world.

I deliberately go out of my way to avoid playing FM as I know if I start another dynasty I'll start yelling at my children and complaining to my wife every time she yells, "Time for dinner!"

So no option to enter a real world universe with real life teams and competitions? That is going to kill any interest in this for me, although it does look very intriguing.

All I will say is give it a chance, you might be surprised.

Awesome news, good bye HT, let's play a real manager with real tactics.

Btw, the Spanish redirection is not working, when i go to http://www.footballmanagerlive.com i'm sent to a 404 error page. I had to manually add the /en/ at the end of the url to be able to login.

I wish SI would consider giving American football a shot.

It almost seems like this will make people into a better single player FM player because it looks like you will have to adjust tactics on the fly

We'll see... any particular reason you guys decided not to go with this?

If six months down the line, the demand is there is the game set up in a way that you could set up a "real" universe?

For one fictional players allows them to take more liberties with stuff such as drug usage.. suspensions etc.. for another thing.. i'm betting it would have been a licensing and logistic nightmare

Would someone who's never played FM be able to pick this up pretty easily, or would there be a steep learning curve?

Very easily imho - the idea is to make it much easier to pick up and play than our normal games ..

That's good news. My one attempt at FM was downloading the demo and being instantly overwhelmed. The interface is just a bit different than FOF...

No - not really.

We looked at all the other games that went online in this genre, they all have failed and we of course didn't want that. We've looked at the reasons behind it and we (Ov Collyer really) came up with this concept.

If you are able to allow this skeptical FM guy into the beta, and are able to convince him, then you will have an amazing game.

I am very suspicious, but where do I sign up for beta?

I was looking at some previews for this and noticed that one of the "quirks" is that you're only able to sign (most players over 19) to contracts that last a month. Seems a bit weird - what's the rationale for that?

This is because the game runs in real world time not 'game time' - as such a league season is (in the alpha game world) 28 days in length.

As such a 'month' is quite a long time in the game .... also bear in mind that you can auto-protect (ie. extend) a few players contracts in your team each time they expire ... you just have to choose which ones wisely.

You WILL find FML a little strange if you come into it expecting it to be 'FM Online' - its a different game and although similar isn't a 'simulation' of the football world in the same way as FM itself ...
