the original is one of the songs that continues to drive pop music into the realm of "extremely embarassing for all of the human race."

This is pretty amusing stuff though.

i dont get it

is she trying to say this is a bad song? we knew that before.

its much better when you take a pop song, rearrange it, and prove how good it is in other formats.

I know you're not implying that chart success represents artistic accomplishment, but in fact that it is quite often the opposite. Right? RIGHT!?!

No, im saying it's a pretty clear demonstartion that "we" do not know it's a bad song. The world is eating this shit up. Us guys in our witty FOFC world know it blows, but we ain't the world.

Popular doesn't mean it's good. See Cyrus, Bill Ray -- Achy Breaky Heart.

I don't think Alanis gets as much credit as deserves for her sense of humor. This is gold.

I love the parody, but I don't understand all the hate for the original song.

There are a number of songs that have the most horrid lyrics. But in my case, there are songs that I enjoy the music to. There are songs that I appreciate the lyrics and when I get the best of both worlds, I am happy.

So for the original song, I strictly enjoy the music.

I found the "parody" extremely dumb and boring. I guess I don't get Canadian humour.

And I guess Morrisettalicious was too hard.

That just proves that people are morons. "I Will Always Love You" is one of the most popular songs at weddings -- at least half the weddings I've been to in the last 15 years have featured that song. It's a break-up song, people!

I won't even get into the people who think "Every Breath You Take" is a love song and not a creepy ode to stalking ...

Now Fergie has to retaliate by doing an overwrought ballad of "Always Too Hot".

Hell, it has to be crappy song if it can't even crack the top 10 of the Latvian charts. Those folks in Riga really know their music.

There is a field on the YouTube page labeled 'embed'. Copy and paste the contents of that field into your message here at FOFC.

It's funny, I considered editing some of those out - that one specifically, but then I was just laughing at the very thought of it getting any airplay there and decided it had to stay.

I guess this would have been really funny for me if I had actually heard the original song, or at least knew something about it. But I haven't and I don't so I'll just take everyone's word that it's funny.

just search youtube for the original. In 20 seconds you'll be amazed the original is a real song.

I've never heard the song, but I can imagine how crappy it is just by reading the lyrics. Really, this is just like Tori Amos' cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit - it's the juxtaposition between the original song and the performance of it as a weepy ballad, combined with the lyrics sounding so outof place in the new format. I think Tori's version was meant to be more serious than this one, but they're both kinda saying the same thing.

I don't think they were trying to do REMOTELY the same thing, personally.

Is there any context that goes along with this video? I'm assuming she isn't going to be releasing this as a single or anything. I'm also assuming it wasn't just "I want to mock a crappy song".

My point is, the effect is the same. This one almost feels like a carbon copy of Tori Amos' song, it's so similar.

Some positive in this thread: The Melvins had a pretty kick-ass cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Thought it might be a bit she did for the Juno's (Canuck Music Awards) that were held last night...but, that doesn't appear to be the situation. She hosted the Juno's a couple of years ago and it was here in Edmonton. My wife and I attended the show and she did several bits that were pretty funny...that's why I thought it might be related.

A little history here...we went to the same elementary school together, we, along with another dozen or so kids, also used to spend one day a week at another school in a Program for Advanced Learners...yeah, I had potential when I was a kid...whoops!!! Call me sentimental, but I always kept track of her in the news just because I do have fond memories from my childhood that she and her family are a part of. Anyway, this doesn't surprise me at all considering that she used to goof off just as much as any kid did and would do anything for a laugh. In fact, before she made it big in music she was on a TV show called You Can't Do That On Television that was a teen version of Laugh In or SCTV...it was pretty funny in the eyes of most pre-pubescent teens. But, we haven't really seen the silly side of her since she's been on this spiritual kick over the last 10 years...maybe this is a return to her "old" self...who knows.

Very funny. Although, coulda been a little funnier if she'd have knocked out a Beyonce' song. Actually surprised she didn't, going the Beyonce' rout, she'd only have to have learned 5 or 6 words per song.

No, I understand where you're coming from. I see the difference in what each is attempting to say with their version, but the songs themselves are nearly identical in the way they are constructed and how they come off, IMO. Plaintively wailing "my humps, my humps" comes off just like "a mulatto, a mulatto."

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I have to think the Amos cover was the inspiration here, even if the underlying message was completely different.

I think it's a great parody of the rap-'song' scene, which seems to vulture on women's bodies so much. Given the title of the original, she couldn't have chosen a better song.

For the record, YCDTOT would still be funny today.

"Ross' Egg-o-Rama! Route 12, King Side Road!"

Edit: I doubt anyone would air it in the US, particularly because of all the jokes about Lisa's weight.
