Technical Hattrick Question
Not sure if anybody here can answer this, but here goes.
I've been trying to design a program which can search every national transfer list at the same time. The main problem I'm having right now is how Hattrick determines what country you're "in" at the moment. It's not hard-coded into the pages, and my search of the cookies Hattrick leaves on my computer also proved fruitless. Just curious if someone has some insight into this.

I would guess that the country selected is passed to the server through a session variable that Active Server Pages often do. I don't remember how tight the security is for those, to prevent "eavesdropping".

That'd do it. Thanks.

thats the only two complaints I have with hattrick
1. You can' t view players from every country 2. You can't watch a player on the list.

Just a word of warning: it's against hattrick's user agreement to design any application that traverses hattrick's pages without the express consent of Hattrick's developers.
I was going to design a similar app but was discouraged because of this. HAM has this permission. You might want to email GM-George about getting permission; he might even be able to point you in the right direction to answer your question.

Remember, though, this is something of a double-edged sword. If it were super-easy to watch the whole transfer market all at once, then everybody would be doing so - and it would be a lot more difficult to find "bargains" by investing a little time and effort (which one can do now). Trade-offs. |

To offer an unpopular opinion (here) - this is the sort of thing that I think the ht people could do to make some money from their devotees. If they opened up a "premium service" that allowed a global transfer search (maybe even only in limited ways) - I think there are people who would be willing to pay for such a service. Technically, it wouldn't mean more information than everyone else has, just a bit more readily accessible.
I realize that many/most computer users balk at the idea of paying for the rvices they receive... but the ht people have every right to find balance between free and (partially) user-supported. |

Actually I think $20 for a 12 month subscription is great. I would balk at something like this that costs 10 bucks a month or something like that. I think for its value it is the easiest 20 dollars I have ever spent online and the most fun. Plus you really get absolutely no inherent advantage in sponsorship, it is just made easier to navigate and you get "immersion" toys.

A good point I havent thought about. Right now I have bought one decent player from a foreign market. I find it hard to keep track of players short of pasting the information into a text file. I wouldnt mind having to surf through the many countries to find players, but having to surf everytime I wanna view him is pretty time consuming.

A message has been sent to the developers asking permission. Thanks for the heads-up, NevStar.

It sounds like that is what QS is suggesting, though. Allowing those who paid for the "premium service" (ie, supporters) to view or search globally doesn't actually provide them with actual advantage. Just makes it easier for them to navigate. |

With the supporter, you can bookmark almost anything in the game including players on the transfer market.

Of course, just being able to save players found in searches and compare them would be a huge help.
That'd work even without the ability to search in all countries simultaneously.

I did not know that. Can you view the players all in a list? is it easy to compare players without having to switch? It would be nice if it could be stored in a .hrf file. then you could download it and look over the data in something like HAM

I suppose you could click and paste. HT-wise, you have to pull up each player individually...but it wouldn't be that hard to cut, paste, and compare.
