ESPN Motion

Hey guys, check this out. ESPN has a new feature on their webpage called motion. Trying to decide if I should enable it. What do you think?

Just viewed it, very cool. Has a little icon in your tray that pops up when there is new video to be viewed. Good way of staying up to date while at work.

Very nice. I'm glad I'm at school, so I can actually use the thing. When I go back home to dialup, it's bye bye to ESPN Motion. Yet another advantage of being on a network.

I went to view it using Mozilla, and got the following message:

"This free feature requires only a high-speed connection, a PC running Windows 98 or better, Internet Explorer 5 or better, Windows Media Player 7 or better, and the Flash 5 plug-in or better."

Gee, is that all??

It is pretty sweet, I went their earlier today clicked on a story, after I read the stary I clicked back to the homepage and it was up. For a second I thought there was some monster popup on my screen.

I really enjoyed the two videos I have seen on it. (Actually it is 3, but the first one just introduces it.) They are both about Michael Jordan. One is a highlight reel, and the other is Around The Horn from earlier today. The quality of the picture is amazing. Everyone with highspeed internet should check this out.

Can't see it work. It's either the OS or the fact that it takes forever to load. Why do web-assholes feel they have to do cool shit like this when "it's the content, stupid"?

Haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like this could be one of those rare cases when flashy technology actually enhances the content, rather than just the designer's portfolio.

(And ESPN gets bonus marks for not forcing it on us. The rest of the site seems tp work just fine without it.)

Too bad you need to use IE. Oh well.

In a related note, their new design did not work well with Netscape 6.2 (most of the toolbars and links weren't loading), so I upgraded to 7.0 and it works great now. Plus 7.0 has a popup blocker! It's worked well so far, although I've only gone on a few sites that I knew had them so far.

I tried it out. It works great and is a useful feature. It's like having Sportscenter clips at your computer without having to put up with loading and streaming media bullsh#t.

Am I the only cynical bastard who thinks they're going to introduce it now to get people hooked, and then start charging for it?

I hate waht they have done to the front page. There is less there, and I can't right click, and then open in a new window.

I dont like it either. Less featured articles, they hide the direct "Chat" link and like stkelly said, no right clicking.

Hmm...interesting,
They must have got a lot of complaints about the right clicking thing because it is available again

Amen & amen.

The page refuses to fully load for me with Netscape 6.2 and it'll be a rare thing that I'll need something from ESPN that I can't find elsewhere enough to open a seperate browser to see it.

All they've done for me with the re-design is drive away a user.

Are you sure? It looks the same to me, they've just replaced the main story with photo and motion options and touched up the colors and graphics on the main page as well as eliminated empty space or compressed the sidebar content.

Sorry for you guys having problems. I haven't had any issues with it. I'm running the newest IE though. Not the biggest fan of MS but their browser seems to always have less issues than the competitors.

I will second that.

Less content, plus the inability for me to use or see the new features means it gets a thumbs down from me. Damn these site that are going to force me to get a faster internet connection, damn them all!

I had the same problems. I downloaded 7.0 and everything works fine.

edit: Well, you still can't use "Motion" unless you have IE, but the loading problem went away.

Ok...anyone else have this problem? I loaded everything up fine, and it said I passed the requirements. It's installed, and the little icon pops up when there is a new video, however, no video will run. I get no audio either, and I've tried everything from re-installing it to updating my drivers and running windows update. Nothing in the FAQ helps (I've tried everything that they say should help similar problems), and I'm not exactly sure I want to brave the ridiculosity of the ESPN message boards (I know ridiculosity is not a word, but ESPN message boards deserve there own special nomenclature for the level of stupidity that goes on there). I've seen the videos on a roommate's computer, and I really like them, so I'd like to get it up and running. Any help is appreciated

Ah, but thye are forcing it on us. If you're using IE with a high-speed connection, it automatically loads to the commercial for the freakin' video, with that goddamn music. I go to ESPN at work and people are looking at me for why his music is suddenly playing on my computer.

Good thing I delayed trying it out until I looked at the specs. It takes up RAM and is on constantly looking for updates and downloading videos to a temp directory, stealing my bandwidth.

Yet another reason for me to stick with Mozilla.

Still hate it. It's intrusive, loud and annoying. At least they should give us the opportunity to shut it off once and for all. I find myself going to CNNSI a lot more now...

Anyone know how to uninstall this once it's installed? Is it just like a plugin or it is different? I don't want to try it unless I can easily get rid of it. Thanks.

What annoying is I'm having problems displaying it with Netscape and Opera. Go Figure. Stupid M$ and their retarded tricks. It just means I'll keep getting more and more news off of tsn.

http://news.com.com/2100-1023-983500.html

Yeah, this isn't a dirty underhanded pattern of behavior. But as long as M$ can keep buying judges, they can keep getting away with this.
