(Personal) I have another reason to be thankful this thanksgiving.
Driving home from the family thanksgiving day gettogether, another car smashed into ours, nearly head on my dad swerved and we got hit in the driverside front quarter. Thank god for airbags.. my dad (the driver) tore his rotator cuff, my mom is sore from the seatbelt/airbag combo, and I have a pretty good goose egg on my forehead.
We're sore, but we're alive.. I'm not sure the other driver is, the other vehicle got spun 180 by the collision, and from what I understand in the ambulance, they had to use the jaws of life to cut them out. I hope they are ok. Thank God we're ok tho.. this was the kind of accident 10 years ago where there could have been 4 fatalities Just trying to break the shakes (adrenalin loss/shock) right now... Dola: Could you move this off-topic, mods?

Thanks guys. It looks like I don't have a concussion, as I was able to sleep on and off through the night.
But they are right, the pain is worse the day after.. dad still has his arm in a sling, an my mom is just going back to bed after an hour up because it hurts so much, and I'm about to do the same. Thank you for your concern, it is appreciated.

My dad (the only one of us really mobile) and my brother (who wasn't with us when we were hit) went and got our things from the car this morning.. we put in ourside of the accident report, put in a request for the police report..
but there's some good news.. The other driver was treated at the hospital and released this morning.

we have a request for the police report in, but that can take some time
could be anything, from hydroplaining, to distracted/drunk driver, to medical condition.. we don't know

Just pulling this out of mothballs.
Would you believe that we're finally coming to the end of the saga, with negotiations with the insurance folks over this nearly over?? At least our medical bills will be paid, and there's a little bit left over. The other driver is now pretty much un-insurable, considering two drunk driving citations (one causing this accident), and being judged completely at fault in this accident. Doesn't exactly fill me with hope.. if they'll drive drunk, they'll drive without insurance.

The other woman, yes. The medical bills were covered, but by way of a lien against any settlement that gets made.

+1 I think it took a couple years for one of mine. My ex-wife got hit by a woman running a red light. The woman admitted fault to the accident (in a hurry to get her child to school and willingly ran the light). That was it. The car we had was about as junk as you can get (Ford Tempo) and literally not worth $5. But in the end we got my ex-wife's medical bills paid (*) and got $1400 for the car (which I paid $1000 for a year earlier). Course, I ended up getting a ding on my credit report because their insurance agency never picked up the car from the junk yard and the unpaid fee somehow got stuck in my name, even though I signed off on the car shortly after the accident. Took awhile to get that cleared up. * The bad thing was I got a call at work from an obviously drama-queen woman who said my wife was in a "really bad" accident and was being taken to a hospital and she didn't know where. So I had to hurry home, and got stuck in traffic that was DUE to the accident, then driving by the scene, stopping and asking an officer where my wife was (he didn't know). Then standing around at home for over an hour waiting to find out where she was taken (after calling around to all the hospitals). She was literally ok, just a scratch and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. |
