Can you look at people the same?

So anyways, while I'm sitting at http://www.solecismic.com/orders/index.php refreshing every so often, I thought I'd share a story with FOFC. A guy who works for the guy who works for me was busted today looking at porn on a government computer. Of course we have to take the appropriate actions but his supervisor brought the list of websites that he went to to me. Many of them had "Shemale" on there.

Now I can't look at the guy the same way that I did previously. I'm thinking "What's he thinking?" every time I look at him. Ugh.

BTW, he got around the website blocker by googling images. Huh. Not that smart anyhow.

No, it just happened today. He was verbally counseled and will be counseled in writing on Monday. We'll see where it goes from there. Quite frankly, I'm a little surprised that he was doing this...he's good at his job and seems to be quite "normal". Hence, my apprehension at looking at him now.

Now that I've cracked and made that admission, I wonder if I'm only a couple of steps away from wanting to tongue-kiss Jaromir Jagr and give Bobby Clarke a blowjob.

In all honesty, if I had a really good worker (as long as its legal), I wouldn't care if he surfed websites involving monkeys and snakes. I wouldn't fire him.

But yes, I would look at him a bit differently.

I wouldn't look at him differently but I'd make a mental note to never ever ever ever ever ever ever hit on his girlfriend.

Just remember the next time you shake somebody's hand that they could've been masturbating just moments before.

I worked for a tiny dot-com for a year+ back in 2002. We had a network Admin who was the strangest, creepiest guys I've ever met. Kept his office pitch black, he smelled funny, worked the oddest hours. Anyway, the rumor was that he had all kinds of pr0n on his computer - fatty porn, trannies, animals, you name it. I was talking to our VP and CTO one day at lunch and our Net Admin and his "bad habits" came up in conversation. The VP told me "I could care less what he does in there (his office). Anything short of doing something illegal is fine by me, because that guy is the best Network Admin I've ever seen, and as a company we'd be sunk without him. WE'd have to hire 3 guys to do the work he does, so as ling as he keeps his nose clean and doesn't harrass anyone, I dont care."

Meh.

Before my company was purchased by a large company, I was the Network architect for a smaller 600-700 person company. As one of my duties involved network security (firewall/ACL security and worked with application and system admins to make sure their applications/systems were secure)

I primarily had the say for security issues that could affect the network's stability (ie: blocking certain applications that are known to have numerous exploits or methods to bring in viruses or trojans), but HR and legal had the say for things to manage employee usage for Web surfing/email etc and what was or was not appropriate.

One of the things they wanted was certain type of websites blocked and certain types of emails blocked so we did.

One of the more amazing things that I got the unfortunate pleasure of learning was 4 of the 7 members of the education staff all were gigantic net-adulter-perverts. These 4 hit all kinds of adult-swinger sites and would often try to send naked pictures of themselves out through corporate email.

One of the most unpleasurable moments of that job was when I had to work with the New Jersey state police task force for special victim crimes in response to one of the employees in support (who was 40+) who would frequent teenage chat rooms and proposition underage girls to meet when he would travel. I had to provide logs and information of his usage to the police regards to him. (Talk about never being able to look at someone the same way again).

Needless to say, I am happy that I no longer do anything like that. It was not fun for me at all.
