Fantasy Movies League
I was wondering if anyone was interested in a fantasy movie league. Basic concept is that you draft upcoming movies and the money they make will determine your score. We would split the year into the following seasons:
Season 1: NOV 2006-APR 2007 Season 2: MAY 2007-OCT 2007 In my mind, Season 1 would be the "Test" season where you would choose movies and tweak gameplay mechanics. Season 2 would of course be more exciting with Summer movie releases, etc. Modeling this off Fantasy Sports, you would have to take the following movies for the season: 1 Action Movie 1 Drama Movie 1 Comedy 1 Thriller/Mystery Movie 1 Horror Movie 1 Family Movie (either CG, cartoon, or live action) 1 Independent Movie I would run this league with a maximum of 10 players and there would be 10 rounds in the draft...so that means you would have 3 movies on your bench. Any money that movie makes in a week (normally Friday through Thursday) will be credited towards your total. You may trade movies, pick up movies etc. Anyone interested? Edit--forgot to add: official box office draw would be US only and be taken from http://www.the-numbers.com/index.php. Movies will be posted this weekend and the draft will begin on Monday next week. Players: 1. larrymcg421 2. TazFTW 3. WVUFan 4. Bearcat729 5. Coop 6. sachmo71 7. 8. 9. 10. Last edited by Raiders Army : 10-11-2006 at 07:47 PM. |

We would have to have some neutral way of determining what genre the movies fall in, since several will straddle more than one genre.

I'll post the upcoming movies and state the genre; that way there will be no question. Also, I'm not playing...just running it so I have no self-interest in determining anything. |

http://www.fantasymovieleague.com/login.aspx That one doesn't have any movies at this point and it seems as if it does one season: Summer. I wanted to test this out for next Summer to tweak any rules, etc. FWIW, I'm making this up as I go along so any input would definitely be welcomed and appreciated. |

I'd do this. Do you want to set up a league on Hollywood Stock Exchange or something?

HSX allows (or allowed) you to set up leagues, but you would be forced to use the HSX format.

Hmmm...the way I see their league is that it's like a salary cap league. People can choose the same movies if they want. That doesn't really appeal to me as much but it looks interesting. Anything automated would be nice. Thoughts?

I think you either need exclusivity on a movie or run it like an auction league. |

After some thought, how about running on there and drafting the movies here? Everyone would need to sign up on the website and create an account. We could begin the draft on Monday next week.
This way I can play too. |
