Dropkick Murphys playing at CBGB

Just got the email from them, Friday Aug 18th. Should be an awesome show in such a small club. I have a promo cose and a link to buy tix.

code:boston

If you are fan this will be a once in a lifetime show since the club is so small it should be amazing.

This band is a part of my single worst concert experience ever (at Coney Island High, a very small venue in itself).

That's all I have to say, except for the fact that CBGB's sucks as an actual venue.

wow Coney Island High. super small but whoever did the booking for that place got alot of BIG time underground punk bands to play there.

i vividly remember seeing rancid, bad religion and the bouncing souls there.

Interesting...

I'm actually quite the fan of Dropkick and others that have the same style, and one of the worst concerts I've ever been to was Dropkick.. I will never go see them live again.

I'm just curios why some of you guys think their concert was horrible? Was it the sound, venue, crowd...?

true, but they are getting more and more popular so I think the days of them playing arenas like this are few and far between.

I'll go if Mike McColgan sings for them again

I remember seeing them with about 200 other people a few times. Good stuff.

Yes.

I saw them at the 9:30 club in DC, which is a pretty well-known, popular venue.

I will start by saying a part of this is my fault. It was during the football season last year and I decided to watch the end of a Redskins game at Benn's Chili Bowl down the road, so I missed the opening act and got there after it was full. So, I was squeazed in the back practically against the doors.

Another big negative was I finally felt "old". The kids were driving me crazy a bit, etc...

But the biggest problem was the performance. To me, a band like Dropkick should have MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR fan interaction. Get the fans involved, singing along, etc. They should be interacting, all that. As I watched the show I couldn't help but feel that Dropkick was just interested in getting out of there. It was like they just rolled through as fast as they could like they were recording or something. Very little fan interaction, very little emotion... the crowd was seriously high energy and Dropkick did nothing to feed off of it.

Like I said, this kills me... Celtic influenced rock is my favorite genre of music and there are few enough people that do it well, for one of the biggest to be dissapointing for me...

Combo of a number of things... It was the second show I was seeing that night (saw a regular show, and this was part of a midnight show on Halloween).

I thought they were awful (performance wise), and the crowd was in a nasty mood that produced probably one of the very few truly "dangerous" situations I've ever been in at a concert. We're talking about multiple people being taken out and to the hospital because of brawls that were breaking out for seemingly no reason. And the place was crazy crowded.

Just a miserable time.

Wade, I am shocked about what you said about their fan interaction. IMO they interact with their fans more then any other band I have ever seen. They let the fans sing with them, invite thm on stage, shout OY OY OY! and have a great time. Maybe they had an off night? I suggest seeing them again.

dola-
CT, I know what you mean about the crowd. I try to only see shows if they are 21+ or have a specific section for underage people.

As little as I go to shows, I just don't see me going to see them again. If they're willing to mail it in like they did for this show, why use one of my rare moments of going to a show on them again?

What you are explaining is what I expected, but not what I got.
