My mom wants a Canon, but I just told her Olympus.. until you mentioned Canon Crap.. whats the pros/cons?

Well, I'm not as familiar with the smaller Canon "point-and-shoot" cameras. My main concern is the SLR system vs the "point-and-shoot" system. Point and shoot cameras are nice for a lot of things (and they are getting better all the time), but I like the ability to change lenses and use filters that the SLR cameras provide. Of course, the SLR cameras don't fit in your pocket, and require more work to get a picture taken. The nice digital SLR cameras from Canon and Nikon currently cost ~$2000, and you can spend quite a bit more on extra lenses.

For most consumer uses, the new "point-and-shoot" cameras should be great. However, if you're looking for a more "professional camera" with the ability to change lenses and set up "speciality" shots, go with an SLR. I'm just waiting for the digital SLRs to go down in price.

Dola, for the "point-and-shoot" cameras, I've also heard wonderful things about Olympus. A friend of mine has a 3 megapixel one, and it takes nice photos.
