Low-grade Fever Is Really Annoying Me Now!!!

I've had a low grade (99.8-100.5) fever for four days now. I don't feel HORRIBLE, but just bad enough to have been confined to the bed and couch throughout that time period. I've had influenza and a higher fever than this for several days, but I've never had a low fever to remain for this long. Grrrrrrrrr.....

Not looking for advice, just venting...

How's your appetite? I had a low grade fever just prior to my appendyx flaring up a couple years aog. Ened up in the hospital for surgery and for a week after because of the infection it had caused. I was told that the appetite thing was the clue, I would feel full after eating a very small portion of something, usually just a couple bites.

Hopefully it's just whatever's going around though. Just wanted to give you an FYI on the situation. They told me that if I had it checked right away I most likely wouldn't have been in for a week. I had no clue at the time though, I always thought appendyx flare ups were just a sharp pain and I never really had that part.

appetite has been decent...a little down, but im usually pretty active, so being dormant for several days i'd expect to be a little less hungry...not noticeably less though

That's good, it's probably just what's been going around. It was extremely noticable for me, especially in hindsight. A couple bites of dinner would make me feel like I just got done a 4th helping at a buffet, full to the extent of feeling sick.

Sorry to hear about your fever, Skydog. I can't help but dispense some advice here, though, because my low grade fever cost me about $500.

I started off just living with it for 4 days, until my wife ordered me to go to the doctor. She ran blood tests, checked for mono, etc. But everything came back negative. That day she ordered a chest x-ray for me, just to be sure. It was negative. A few days later, I go back for a follow-up. Based on my symptoms, which was basically a 99-101 fever and a little sinus congestions, she orders me to have an ultrasound and a nasal CAT scan. She thought I might have a liver disease or a deep sinus infection. They are both negative, and now I am going on two weeks with this fever. The doctor is about to send me to an infectious disease specialist, but I got really busy at work and decide to just live with the fever. Eventually, it goes away. Turns out it was just a wierd virus, but not all that uncommon. She knew what it could have been, but ordered the tests to "cover the bases". Well, I had to meet my $500 deductable on all of this, for a damn virus.
I guess my advice is before you go get a ton of tests, ask the doctor if it could just be a virus. Maybe it will save you some cash and time.

I had the same thing a few weeks ago, and had to spend Christmas Eve in the hospital because they thought I had appendicitis. Seven hours later I found out it was just a viral infection. Kinda ruined the holidays a bit but at least I didn't need to go under the knife!
