No sales clerk.

On the way home from work, I stopped at a convenience store to grab a soda, a snack, some milk and a loaf of bread. It was 3:30 in the morning, and as I am walking around in the store, deciding which snack I want to get, I notice that there isnt a single person working in the store. This is pretty much rural america here, so it's not that suprising that there might not be a clerk out front at that moment. They may be in the back doing inventory/stock/something of that nature. Well, I walk up to the register with my stuff, and look for a bell, or something to single to the worker to come and ring me up. And nothing happens. I open the door to see if it sets off some sort of signal in the back that someone entered the store. And nobody comes out. I call out, "Is anyone here?" and get no answer. So I wait for another minute or so, and then just leave, and don't buy any of the stuff I was gonna buy. I'm not sure legality of the situation, as to if you can just leave the money for your purchase on the counter and take what you were gonna buy. I had approximately 5 dollars worth of stuff(more like 4.50 including tax), and was gonna leave a 5 on the counter as pay. Just a frustrating situation cause then I had to drive about 5 miles the opposite way from home to get milk for the morning.

Maybe there had been a robbery and the clerk was lying inside the office (?) tied up?

Probably just using the toilet - (old git remembers, feel free to fall asleep at this point ) I grew up in the sticks and our local store didn't have a toilet so the shop keeper had to walk down the road to a friends house to go, this meant that the shop would be empty to 15-20 minutes at a time ... no problem, locals would just walk behind the counter and ring things up themselves, things were different in my day

Reminds me of the scene in clerks where dante is slouching behind the desk and trusting punters to pay the correct price for stuff. His justification is that when people don't see a clerk they assume a camera is watching and thus pay correctly.

I actually worked at a convenience store for awhile, 3rd shift, which means I was by myself. If i needed a late night bathroom trip, i locked the doors of the store, just to prevent such confusion.

I am betting on the bathroom break idea, though. Or murder.

I'm surprised no one has suggested he was out back getting some sort of sexual pleasure from someone else. Or himself maybe, does this store have porn magazines?

There are so many signnificant others around here, so perhaps I'm confusing things, but isn't this your wife's font? That's confusing to me. And I need to be placated before I can sign off on your font change.

If it's not hers exactly then it is close enough for me.

edit: only problem is I keep forgetting to use it and have to go back and do it.

It's definitely different. Yours is possible to read if I squint, so I won't just ignore it automatically -- if I'm in a good mood, I might read it.

I really think the more important question is, is if it's okay to leave money for your purchases, or if they have to be rung out. AKA the honor system isn't okay.

Two wrongs don't make a right but I suppose this was bound to happen. Solidarity and all.

As a practical matter, I don't really see you getting busted for theft here. I think that there is a pretty strong argument that you are not stealing anything. You may be violating store policy, but you are not stealing.

Just my 2c, though.

At some point in the next few days, I'm going to rummage through the Admin control panel to see if there's a way to restrict font/color usage.

Yeah, that's a problem- so much for dynasty reports.

Just make people who use them normally (which amounts to 2 now, double from last week) use one of the skins where it looks unreadable

What You See Is What You Get- basically an editor like Word or Dreamweaver where it colors text for you rather than having to code it up manually.

Cool- hadn't seen that before. Typically, I just look it up on wiki or dictionary.com. That site is a bit more thorough.
