i thought this was a pretty shitty year for super bowl ads, like companies don't fell like being innovative anymore.
i only laughed at i think one (budweiser horse instant replay think), and even that was only a chuckle. And I think that trident one, but only b/c squirrels are hilarious... did you know its squirrel mating season, read that in the paper. I was excited about the matrix and hulk, but otherwise, a poor year for commercials. |

Speaking of the Matrix commercials, are they seriously going to try and release the final two in one year? If so, wouldn't that indicate that they don't think the interest is there anymore after, what, 3 years?

The Osbournes was by far the best one for me. I'm looking forward to seeing what T3 is going to be like also.

eh, three years, four, it's not really a movie that made enough of an impact for me to remember exactly when and where I saw it. Yes, it creeped me out, but all I remember is that my brother wasn't old enough to see it, and I was, so that puts it in the last 5 years or so.

I liked the 'Linebacker Tate' commercial...and the movie previews were the only other ones I thought were any good. I remember a time (now like 3 or 4 years ago) when I looked forward to the commercials almost as much as the game itself. It seems lately they just suck.

Linebacker Tate was good. As far as the Matrix goes just about everyone that I know that has seen it is chomping at the bit to see both of the sequels.

Budweiser clydesdales was a good one. The Zebra made it hilarious.
The FedEx one was great and a nice touch on Castaway. Movie ones didn't thrill me too much, cept the new Jim Carrey film and the Anger Management one. Osbournes also was pretty funny. But nothing was really overly memorable. |

The Budweiser "Zebra" commercial was funny. It took a few seconds for it to play out, I was trying to figure out just what the heck was going on at the beginning.. Great commercial..
The one thing I noticed... Does every decent action movie from the past 6 or 7 years have to have a sequel? No more originality coming out of Tinsletown? I mean almost every movie ad I saw was the (Insert Name Here) 2, or in the case of the Matrix, I believe they announced two upcoming sequels, both slated for 2003. Hulk looked kind of interesting. Some of those special effects gave me a chuckle, especially the one where Hulk basically flung that Tank into the sky hammer-toss style by its cannon. Overall, the Super Bowl commercials have definitely seen better days. I'm a bit disappointed, but it was to be expected with the big corporations cutting back on expenses.

I really thought the way they did the Michael Jordan Gatorade commercial was neat. Although seeing him in the red and black nearly brought a tear to my eye.

I thought the Terry Tate commercial was hilarious. My friends didn't pick up on the Office Spce reference, but since it is one of my favorite movies, I laughed incredibly hard. I'm pretty sure just about everyone only noticed the commercials alreayd mentioned, nothing too special about the others.

I will throw another vote out for the Budweiser Zebra commercial. I think that was the best of the night. Other quality offerings like Linebacker Terry Tate, and the Budweiser commercial with the clown also had me and my buddies laughing hard.
I liked the Fed Ex spot, but I caught the end of it ealier on CNN, so that kind of ruined it for me. |

Anybody have a link to these commercials that actually gives you the whole commercial, instead of just still pictures that change every three seconds with sound?
That strikes me as being designed for a dial up link when it does this, but I have broadband and can take the full streaming video. And I would love to watch some of those again. Thanks. Chief Rum

Thanks, edm. That is just absolutely hilarious. Great stuff. I wish I had one of "those" around at my work. I definitely know a few people who could use a little Terry Tate clothesline to motivate them to get their act together.

I thought the commercials were better than they have been the last couple years. Not as good as some of the classics from years past, but last year they were much worse. I actually liked several of them this year. The Osbournes, The Zebra, The Clown, Terry Tate, the FedEx one. That's not a bad group considering the crap we've seen the last couple years.

yeah the one with the Zebras was very funny....but not as funny as the one from last year where the guy says, "yeah they usually go for 2."

It's gotta be the Zebra/Jackass with the instant replay, followed by the Fed Ex Castaway spoof.
The Willie Nelson tax one was pretty funny as well .

Just the opposite actually (at least according to the people who made the movie, so take this with a grain of salt). They were planning to release them further apart, I think 18 months or something, but apparently the ending to number 2 is such an intense cliff hanger that test screenings showed people were actually pissed off when they found out they'd have to wait that long to find out what happens.

I think there's a lot of interest for The Matrix movies. I also think the release schedule is a great idea. It's far enough apart that they don't overlap, but it's close enough together that you don't lose some of the fringe who could lose interest a year and a half later. I would guess most fans would like to see "groups" of movies released closer together. I'd have loved it if The Lord of the Rings had been released every 6 month's instead of one a year.

What about the Alias promo?
Those 2 money shots of Jennifer Garner only confirmed to me that she's the only reason why I have to see a Ben Affleck superhero movie, no matter how much it may hurt. plus, the Alias episode wasn't that bad. |
