Another tipping thread.

Just out of curiosity: all other things being equal, do you tip "regular" servers/delivery people better than others?

What I mean is, if you visit a restaurant or order delivery food, and you frequently get the same person, do you tip them better than if it was a person with whom you had no prior connection?

Sometimes, sometimes not. Depends on how the relationship is with that person. I've gone out to resturants and gotten the same waiter several times in a row and tipped them poorly because they were asshats. Depends on the waiter/waitress.

Depends entirely upon the level of service that I customarily receive from them.

A good+regular server usually fares best of all with me.
A mediocre (or worse) server that's also regular doesn't do any better than one who sucks that I've never seen before.

Too vague of a question.

What if you get the same asshat server? Do you tip them better just because they have served you better? The only instances that I tip better, is if the server I continously get keeps providing great service. I generally tip a very high percentage, unless the server does something absolute ridiculous, like defecates in my food and fondles my wife.

So if you get the same server, and they are great 90% of the time, that 10% of the time they are bad or subpar, you still tip the same amount just because they have served you before?

I think you guys missed the whole point of "everything else being equal."

In other words, you're not getting any worse (or better) level of service from the regular server than you would from any other server at that restaurant.

Since we're talking about repeat trips to a restaurant, assume the service was good enough to warrant coming back.

Why would you tip more for just average service even if it was from the same person? Unless of course you personally liked that person?

Is the fear that service goes down?

I say no different tip unless you personally prefer that server.

Everything else being equal, it makes not sense to tip differently. The reason you tip a regular server better is because you are hoping to encourage better service the next time you come in.

Do you do anything special to make noscript at all useful? I found that almost every site I go to has some kind of javascript menu or something which makes me disable noscript for the site to be able to get around it. I finally uninstalled noscript because it interfered with navigation of just about every site.

Brian: Basically what I do is test out what triggers the popups/interstitlas and block that.

for this one, I block everything but the main server.. I do lose out on automatic smilies, but that's no big deal

I did miss the point you were shooting for there, so let me try answering again.

If regular & average = normal tip.

If regular & consistently above average = better tip than non-regular who is equally above-average.

So for every site that uses javascript navigation, you have to allow the site? Is there any way to specify allowing javascript for all relative paths for the current site, but denying any absolute paths to other sites? I find myself spending too much time trying to navigate around seemingly broken sites before I realize that I have to put in a noscript extension.
