Las Vegas, NV -- Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held today on the outskirts of Las Vegas, at the newly opened Donald Trump Memorial Field and Casino. Trump Memorial will be home to the expansion Las Vegas High Rollers, new to major league baseball this season. First pitch will be April 1st, 2031, against the Twins at 1:05 pm.
The stadium was a gift to the new franchise from the city and local casino owners, a thank you as it were to the new owner for successfully landing Las Vegas its first major professional sports franchise. The stadium is a work of art. Beautiful traditional Roman architechure is the basis for this stadium that also doubles as a high stakes casino. At almost 2200 feet, baseball here should be a lively, high scoring afair. The right field line measures a mear 333 feet, the right corner 374. Center field is measured at 408. Left center goes at a short 367, and the left field porch should see plenty of home runs, at only 328 feet. Seating for the 54,002 is posh, and every seat down to the $10 cheap seats has at-your-seat service. Gambling can be had at any of the handy "gambling stations" on each of the three levels. No betting on the current game, though. Field conditions are excellent, and the view from everywhere is supurb. The infield is cut high, so we should see several slow rollers, making for even more hits. The last noticible feature is the huge foul territory. You could lose someone in all this foul ground. New manager Pete Rose Jr. had this to say about the new stadium and team. "I think this place will be a great bonus for our team. That, plus our great looking rookies for this season, and I think we can go far. I just wish dad was here to see this. Speaking of dad, which way were those slots I passed on my way in here?...."

I sit at my desk, with many things to do before the first pitch of the season. First thing to do is the budget.
Ticket prices came set at 19% above 'normal price'. That seems a little high for us right now, we need to attract some fans this season. We'll gouge them later, when they become die-hards. Ticket prices set to 5% above 'normal'. Next I wander down the hall to our head of concessions. Yep, this is Las Vegas all right....Hot dogs, drinks, and ice cream are all at LEAST 39% above 'normal price', ouch! Again, we don't want to alienate our new fans, so we'll tone it down a little bit this season, and work it up as we go. I order them set to 15% above for now. Now for a big decision, what to do about broadcast rights....We have 3 options. We can broadcast normally, and everyone should be able to see our games whenever they want via a local TV station. Our next option is to make our games pay-per-view. This will bring in more money, but will alienate some of our fan base. Finally, we can have a blackout policy to get more people into the stands. I think we'll go with a normal broadcast this year, and we'll see how our cash flow is from there. Our final budget decisions are our everyday expenses. These include the farm system, scouting, and our medical staff. I decide to put us up with the top 5 teams in the league in all categories, so I increase spending across the board. My forcasters say we should more than meet expenses this year, mainly because we have such a low payroll right now. That will change in time though. Okay, thats it for budget concerns. I'll get on the phone with ol' Petey Jr. soon, that is if I can get him away from that damned blackjack table.....

A word about numbers. The games doesn't really have a place for them, but if you guys want them, I'll make sure to include them in reports and such. Just gimmie the number you want.
I finally get Pete Rose, Jr., our manager, on the phone and run through the lineup with him. He gives me the following lineup. Vexroid -- 2B Illini Fan -- RF Tasan Jr -- LF RendeR -- 3B Grid Iron -- 1b Chasin Cinti -- C Luis Martinez -- CF 3ric -- DH Anal Bumcover -- SS I ask him about his decision to put 3ric at DH. He says he wants a vet somewhere in the lineup to help steady these rookies. Not a bad idea, but I wonder if we should be grooming someone for that spot. Oh well, hopefully 3ric's best days aren't behind him. The pitching staff might be a little scary. Here's the rotation: Bert OGarce Travis Coffee Warlord Hakatoko Seki Lukas Gerometta Everyone is young, and that usually means rough roads ahead. That, and there isn't a whole lot of talent at the back end of the rotation. The relievers are an even bigger question mark. Closer: Breeze Setup: Sterling Ice Short: Jose Fernandez Middle: Split Personality Long: Henry Malone Alternate Starter: Sean Lauline Except for a couple of bodies, it doesn't look too good. Plus, again, everyone is young and young relievers just tend to get eaten up their first few years. Well, since we couldn't land any vets that were any better, we'll just go with these guys and get them some tough love to start their careers. With that, Rose mumbles something about a waitress and some borrowed chips, and hangs up. First pitch is in about 5 hours, so I hope he's getting the guys ready. Oh well, we'll see how things go.

Well, the first week went okay. A little background before we get into things. At some point in the history of this league, they stopped always having multiple game sets with teams. So, sometimes we will have 3-4 game sets with teams, then other times it might be one or two games. Must be some form of high speed transportation that was invented ;- )
So anyway, onto the week. We started with a 3 game series against the Twins. Although our first game found our manager suspeciously hung over and our team down 5 at the end, we hung on to the last two games and took the series 2-1. The Braves stopped by for one, and we sent them home in a high scoring win for Vegas. Next up, the Giants came to town for one and we hung on in another high scorer. The Padres are in town now for a 2 game set, and the first one ended our 4 game winning streak. Overall, our bats are here, but our pitchers haven't really showed up yet. Vexroid is leading the team with a .423 average and a .545 on base percentage. Overall as a team, we are hitting .336 early on. At 4-2, we are one game back of 5-1 Texas. Breeze is currently our best pitcher, with a 1.80 era and 3 saves in 5.0 innings. And thats about it. All of our starters era's are above 6.00 As a team, our era is 7.33, one of the worst in the league. I'll have some links up a little later for box scores and game recaps. There will also be a page with current stats.

The rest of the month doesn't start so well. On the 10th, we lose 3ric to an ankle stress fracture. I was afraid his durability might be a question. We call up Ulric Lundhagen from AAA. He's only hitting .256, but already has 4 HR in just 43 ABs for the AAA club. He's naturally a 1B, but we just need him to swing a bat for us. We slap 3ric on the 15 day DL. Ulric will bat in 3ric's spot.
On the 20th, RendeR decides he wants to join 3ric at the blackjack table, and complains that his foot hurts. XRays show a stress fracture in his right foot, and he'll sit for 18 days...this is starting to be a problem. Barry Stevens is the best we have in the minors at 3B, so he gets the call up. We'll have to rearrange the lineup though, I don't think I want him batting cleanup. I make sure the manager knows this. RendeR's bat will be missed. At the time, he was leading the team in HRs with 4. The lineup now looks like this: 2B Vexroid RF IlliniFan LF Tasan 1B Grid Iron C ChasinCinti CF Luis Martinez DH Ulric Lundhagen 3B Barry Stevens SS Anal Bumcover Yeouch. In 6 more days though, we get 3ric back. On the 24th we get even more bad news. Travis has strained his elbow and will miss 2 starts. Seeing as his ERA is 6.03 right now, maybe this isn't a bad thing. We throw in our alternate starter, Sean Lauline, to pick up Travis's missed starts. No DL time for him though, so he can only watch from the bench as 3ric and RendeR throw the dice at the craps tables. 3ric gets back 2 days later. Ulric gets sent back to the minors, and 3ric takes his spot back at DH. The end of the month comes, and Travis feels he can pitch again, if you could call what he was doing pitching. He takes his spot back in the rotation, as Sean Lauline stunk up the place worse than Travis. This month turned out disappointing. We hit May 1st at 10-18. The good thing is that we are on a 3 game winning streak, the bad thing is that we are 4-6 in our last 10. We aren't doing as bad as our fellow expansion team, the DC Senators, though. They are a whopping 2-26. Our highlight of the month was probably the final game of a 4 game set with the Devilrays. It was a game that we just felt we couldn't lose, and it started our current win streak. Code:

BOTTOM OF THE TWELFTH Luis Zatopa came in to pitch for the Devil Rays. <---> Vexroid flied out to center. <---> Illini Fan doubled down the right field line. <-2-> Tasan popped up to second. <-2-> Grid Iron was intentionally walked. <-21> Chasin Cinti doubled down the left field line, scoring a run. <32-> HIGH ROLLERS WIN: 9-8 Vexroid is still our best hitter, with a .359 average and .444 OBA. His 14 stolen bases rank 2nd in the majors, too. Tasan Jr., 3ric, and RendeR lead the team in HRs with 4 a piece, but RendeR is still on the DL for a week. I hope he's up at the blackjack table. As for pitching, we still suck. There are a few bright spots though. Hakatoko Seki actually has something that resembles a decent ERA for a starter, with a 4.62 ERA and a 3-2 record in 39.0 innings. Our next best starting ERA is 5.55 for the Warlord... If we can get to our pen, though, we stand a chance. Sterling Ice has really come on and is now at 1.32 for ERA , and Breeze and SplitPersonality both have respectable 3+ ERAs. Well, thats it for April. Let me know if you like the reports in these monthly summaries, or weekly, like I started with. I think we'll bog down too much weekly though. Also, is anyone else other than the participants reading this? Just wondering. I hope you are enjoying it, and any recommendation any has as to style are greatly appreciated. This is my first dynasty, so I'm learning as I go.

May starts with RendeR, our stud 3B, still on the DL for another week. Looking over the lineup, I confer with Pete Jr, and we decide to move 3ric up in the order to 5th, and Cinti down to 7th. With that done, I head to my box and get ready for the upcoming game against the swingin' A's. We have taken the first two from them in this 4 game series, and overall we are on a 3 game winning streak. Our streak continues, but more bad news awaits us.
3ric's ankle never healed right, and its broken again with another stress fracture. He'll be out about 3-4 weeks the doctors say. Lundhagen gets the callup again, and will bat 6th, with Martinez moving up to 5th. The day RendeR gets back from the DL, the doctors come to me with more bad news. Hakatoko Seki, one of our starting pitchers, has a stress fracture in his foot. What is up with all these stress fractures!!??!! He'll miss 2-3 starts. Sean Lauline will pitch in his place, and Spencer Spence will fill the alternate duties til Seki is ready. With RendeR back in the lineup, it looks like this: 2B Vexroid RF IlliniFan LF Tasan, Jr 3B RendeR 1B GridIron CF Martinez DH Lundhagen C ChasinCinti SS AnalBumcover At the end of the next week, the Phillies offer us P Cal Eulate for LF John Narovlansky. John is by no means a top prospect, and Eulate will definately be better than what we have at our Alt starter spot. Eulate has B's in Endurance and Control, C for power, and a B- in movement. He's 32 years old, but this is his first stint in the majors. He's seen 3.2 innings of work, and has a 5+ ERA. Not too bad. I finalize the deal. Two weeks have gone by, and things still don't look too much better. Two more players on the DL, 3ric for 10 more days and Seki for 6 more. Those hurt. Here's a look at where we are: We are 17-23, and have gone 5-5 in our last 10. Our team is batting .282, with Vexroid still leading the way. My son, Tasan Jr, is leading the team in HRs with 8. Vex is also leading in stolen bases still, with 19 For pitching, our team ERA is still a lofty 6.15, but thats better than 2 weeks ago. Breeze and the Ice man are still our 2 best pitchers, with ERAs in the 2s. Travis has really come on in the last 2 weeks, and his ERA is now 4.38 and he's 3-3. Split had a rough 2 weeks, and his ERA is now just .08 under 5.00. Overall, we are 12.5 games behind Texas, and I'm not sure if we'll catch them this season. I don't think that should really be our goal right now though. We just need to find out who's going to play for us this season, and be respectable in doing it.

We regroup and get started again. We still have 3ric and Hakatoko Seki on the DL. Unfortunately, on the 15th, we suffer yet another loss. IlliniFan goes down with a strained back, and the doctors don't expect him back for 2 weeks. Yay. Will Blank takes his spot in RF. Our lineup now looks like this:
2B Vexroid CF Martinez LF Tasan Jr 3B RendeR 1B GridIron DH Lundhagen RF Blank C ChasinCinti SS AnalBumcover Kevin Unger gets called up to give us some depth in the OF. He's not a bad player, so if Blank doesn't hit, we can try him in right. 3ric is still 9 days away, and Seki is 5 days out still. On the 21st, Seki rejoins the rotation. He takes his old spot from Lauline, however, Lauline did pretty well in his absence. We'll keep him as the Alt starter, but he'll get more chances to prove he belongs in the rotation, too. On the 25th, 3ric comes off the DL. He gets his DH spot back from Lundhagen, but ol' Ulric doesn't get a ticket back to the minors. He's hit well, so he'll take the place of 1B Rob Flynn, who's only hitting .063 in 16 ABs. 3ric also takes the #6 spot that Ulric was hitting in. The 29th sees IlliniFan come back to the club, and he reassumes his spot in right. Blank didn't do too bad there, so he'll get his bench spot back, and Unger, who only managed 1 AB, will go back to the minors. Martinez didn't do well at all in the #2 spot, so the lineup is rearranged as follows: 2B Vexroid RF IlliniFan LF Tasan Jr 3B RendeR 1B GridIron DH 3ric CF Martinez c ChasinCinti SS Analbumcover IlliniFan comes back into the dugout before the first game passing out $100 chips. It appears his stint on the DL was, um, rewarding. Now if we can only get this team winning good, and staying healthy. Checking the pitchers, Seki's return hasn't been good for him. Lauline gets shuffled back into the rotation, and Seki will take a few turns as an Alt starter to get his stuff back. June first rolls around, and I stop to take a look at everything. First and foremost, we are 23-32, 17 back of Texas. Our team batting average has dipped a bit to .278, I'd guess due to several hitters being on the DL these last 2 weeks. IlliniFan was HOT while he was in, and he's now leading the team with a .342 BA, and a .490 OBA. My son, Tasan Jr, leads the team with 11 HRs, and RendeR is right behind him with 10. Pitching is still our achilles heal. Our ERA actually creeped UP a little to 6.24. CoffeeWarlord is our best starter, with a 4.74 ERA. Travis leads the team in wins with 4. Breeze and SterlingIce are our best late arms. Breeze shuts folks down with his 1.89 ERA in 19 innings. Other than that, though, we are still pretty poor. I'll look to do something about that this next month. We need some real positive changes in the pitching staff soon.

Yep, I'm the Jon Lieber of this team. Nothing spectacular, just eat up a lot of innings with a somewhat respectable ERA.
That, and 13 walks in 74 innings ain't too shabby. SEE! Hooked on Gambling IS working! My fellow pitchers just don't have the same dedication to the craps tables that I do! |

June is upon us, and we are 17 back. I hope to make some deals for pitching in the next couple of weeks.
Our DL is clear for just about the first time since opening day. Maybe we'll get to play together for a few days this time and see what we can really do. We make it through a week with no injuries, this is a first. We also gain a game on Texas, going 4-3. Another uneventful week goes by, and we pretty much tank it, falling behind Texas another 2.5 games. Scouring the league, I find 4 potential trading teams. Montreal at 29-41, St. Louis at 23-46, Arizona at 24-43, and San Francisco at 30-38. San Francisco has a pitcher named Dave Law who is 30. His current ERA is 2.90, and he's 4-5 in 77.2 innings through 12 starts. He has an A for endurance, A- control, B- power, and b- movement. His contract lasts another 4 years, at 16 points per. He's a perfect fit. San Fran wants Jose Fernandez, Rick Doran, and Steve Cooper in return. Cooper is a good looking 1B prospect, but we have Lundhagen and GridIron there already. Doran was a reliever that would probably not see much time anytime soon, as he was worse than what we already have. Fernandez was our short man, but I didn't have any faith in his ability to sustain his current decent pitching. I think Cooper is the man SF is after here. We pull the trigger on the deal. One more deal to find now, we need another good arm in the pen. Anaheim, at 29-42, says they'll deal. They have a 34 year old reliever, Miguel Canete, thats 1-3 with a 3.41 ERA in 31.2 innnings. They are wanting to go young, and want to clear his salary slot out. He's making 6 points for 2 years. We'll take him, as their asking price is low, just C Andy Hollender, CF Lewis Cwiklinski, and P Ian Adramsky, all marginal prospects. Canete's ratings are B in control, B+ in power, and A- in movement. Our dealing is done for now. We've acquired 2 veteran pitchers, something our staff was missing. Hopefully they can pass on their knowledge of the game to the younger guys before they leave. The rotation is now set up as follows: Dave Law Travis Coffee Warlord Lukas Gerometta Bert OGarce Breeze, Closer SterlingIce, Setup Miguel Canete, Short SplitPersonality, Middle Hakatoko Seki, Long Sean Lauline, Alt starter Our lineup stays the same. So far in June, our ERA and BA have gotten better, at 5.98 and .281 respectively. IlliniFan is our leading hitter at .356, with a .494 OBA. RendeR leads the club with 13 HRs. Pitching is slowly improving, and the deals we made should show some effect in the coming weeks. Breeze and Ice are still torching everyone in the pen, and Coffee Warlord is still steady in the rotation. Well, thats it for now. I've got to meet some players down at the craps table. I hear they've got some kind of 'workout' plan and I want to see what they're up to.

And Vex, your average seems to be settling in around .325 or so, not too shabby. It'll be an interesting race to see which one of you gets the AL Rookie of the Year. My money is on AnalBumcover, as the game kinda likes SS that perform decently.

My intent is to get either enough yearly income set up(fan base, TV) to afford all of you, or have enough reserve cash built up. I can start negotiating contracts with you in the last season of your current deal. I want to keep you all on the team from rookies to HoF, so hopefully I won't have to worry about tracking you anywhere else.

Wow what a night. I spent it at the craps table with CoffeeWarlord, and I swear that man didn't crap out for 5 hours! I don't know about his pitching, but he's definately working on SOMETHING with this plan.
Anyway, lets look at the team right now. Right now we stand at 30-38, 18.5 back of division leading Texas. We are 5-5 in our last 10, and on a 2 game losing streak. Our new pitchers haven't tossed an inning for us yet, so maybe we can turn things around. I want to shoot for .500 this season. We don't have to make the post season, but I'd like us to at least be respectable. I don't think the new DC owner has that in mind. Our expansion partner right now stands at 10-59, a full 35.5 games back in the AL East, by far the worst team in the majors. Ouch. We aren't even last in our division. It appears the dull days of June are upon us. This next week sees us not have much action. We drop the final game of a stint with the Twins and 3 of 4 to the Redsox, then have 2 days off. Our lone bright spot was a tremendous pitching effort by Travis on the 17th. Code:
This week and next will see us go 4 games at home against the Yankees, 4 in Cleveland, and then the start of another Yankees series to end the month. Our offense comes alive at home against the Yankees, where we rack up 35 runs in 4 games. Our bats cool down a little in Cleveland, but our pitching carries us, and we end the month on a 4 game winning streak, having won 7 of our last 10. With the end of the month here, lets see where we stand. Our hitting has cooled off a touch, as our team batting average is now at .279. IlliniFan is still tearing up the league with a .345 BA, and a .488 OBA. Tasan Jr and RendeR keep going back and forth with the HR lead, and right now Tasan leads with 16 to RendeR's 14. Vexroid has swiped 37 bases, someone call the cops as its only July 1. Our pitching is steadily getting better. The Veterans we acquired have paid off I believe. CoffeeWarlord continues to be our solid starter, with a 4.02 ERA in 123 innings, and he's now over .500 at 7-6. Travis leads the team with 9 wins. The pen has stabilized, with Breeze and SterlingIce still leading the way. Breeze has racked up 19 saves in 26 innings, with an outstanding 1.38 ERA. Our young team continues to build upon its successes. As long as we keep playing like we are, I'll be real happy. Also, staying injury free like we did all of June, will really help us get to .500 as planned. Good luck guys!
