Ping: TiVo owners
My TiVo is starting to piss me off and I wanted to know if anyone is having or has had this problem. When I am watching live TV, it works fine, but if I pause a show and watch a few minutes behind or watch a taped show, it periodically gets all jumbled and slows down and the audio and picture get scrambled for a few seconds.
Of course this only seems to happen on important or good parts of shows, so it is annoying. Anyone know how to fix this?

sorry, don't really know. how often does it happen? I wonder if maybe you've got some bad sectors on the HD or something. I don't see why that wouldn't happen on a Tivo like it would on a PC.

Not sure, call Tivo, would they repair it? You can also buy drive kits and install one yourself(upgrading capacity at the same time), don't believe it's simply plug and play though.
You can also check the temp in the system info(or something like that) menu, make sure that's still ok. |

I would like to upgrade/increase capacity but if its not plug and play, it will be pure chaos if I try and do it. Thanks for the help guys, now I know what to do, and knowing is half the battle.

I had this happen with mine. Fortunately for me, I got the extended 4 year warranty at Best Buy. I took it there and they figured it was a Hard Drive issue. Fortunately for me, they looked it up on the PC and since I've had it for 2 years, they didn't have replacement parts, etc. so they just gave me a new (larger) one from the store. This doesn't help you much except to somewhat confirm that it is probably a HD issue.

Would a whole new hard drive entail me getting basically a new TiVo if it isn't under warranty?
I hope so, because right now I am loaded with money and I am trying to find places where I can spend it. (sense the sarcasm because I am laying it on pretty thick)

What does Series3 do? Will it clone me and send my clone to work at my job?

I like your style. ![]() as far as replacing the drive, you can get one from a place like www.weaknees.com. installation is pretty easy - the drive is already imaged for you, and they send you whatever tools/parts you need. I don't know if all upgrades are easy, but at least for my model it was as simple as replacing the hd on your PC (ie not very difficult). even if you don't go that route, they have a lot of troubleshooting and other informative tips on their site. it's worth a look around.
