What we still need to do.

Find out how to import the posts from the UBB
Design a pleasant looking interface for the board
Install hacks to add extra features
Add the forums that were not imported (Game Reviews, College Football, etc)
You can still view the old forum at http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi

Just a note for everyone.

When you Login to the new board you use your username and password instead of the old login name on the old board.

It took me a minute to figure that out...

Otherwise, I love the new digs so far

As y'all see little things that need to be fixed, make sure you let Ryan or me know.

I would advise everyone to check your preferences in the User Control Panel.

If you want a pop up box when you get a message, click yes to "Pop up a box when you receive a Private Message?"

You may also have to enable private messaging.

Can you change the default number of posts per page to 50 (it appears it's 10 right now)?

According to the control panel, we should have 50 posts per page so maybe you will need to change a setting in your user control panel.

Thank you, somehow I overlooked that one.

I just love having more options that one can remember to set and just think, some folks felt we should have stayed with the old software.

My suitemate has a VB board on his server, so I'm sure he has numerous.

Since I never seen the admin panel for vB, I wonder about the thread icons. I see the following:
- read (open folder)
- have a post in the thread (black dot)
- not read (red folder)

Shouldn't the thread with new posts since the last visit be the red folder or something? Is this something I set. Right now, I can't see the icon difference for new posts in existing threads.

Could we borrow some "skins" and hacks from the FOBL forum? Also will avatars be turned on eventually or was that a design decision to keep them off?

I decided to keep Avatars off. IMHO they are WAYYYYYY more annoying than they are an addition to the board. Signatures allow for enough "self-expression."

Avatars can also be turned off on a per user basis in vB, so no one would have to see them if they didn't want to see them. Although after what has happened at the OOTP forums with avatars I can certainly understand not wanting them here.

Although if I don't see mine converted here, I guess we can copy and paste them.

Is there a way for the creator of a poll to see who voted for each choice? I'm just thinking of potential uses for polls in a dynasty.

At Apolyton, you have to login in to vote in a poll. That way, you can only vote once per username. The pollster then can track all results and comments by username.

I hope that's the case here. I know it tells me that I've already voted in a particular poll, but I haven't tried to see if you can vote as a guest.

OK, I logged out,, and it won't let you vote as a guest. Cool.

Thumbs up Avatars

Good call on the avatars, SkyDog. It really helps us still on dialup.

I hope we don't see the general discussion forum littered with polls.

This change is the best thing that has happened to me all week...

Avatars & Thread Ratings

Well you know that I always have to go against the grain so I ask, what is the point of turning off Avatars for everyone when it could be left up to the individual user? As far as not wanting stupid or offensive pics that can always be dealt with by the moderators. If someone doesn’t like a particular avatar they have the option of sending the post to the moderator who then could disable the avatar in question if need be. Besides that if someone really wanted to they could just include a pic inside their post each and every time, which forces everyone to see it as opposed to having it in the members section and making it the individuals option to see it or not. Just kind of makes sense to utilize the most options that the new software offers especially if it doesn’t really hurt anyone to do so.

Also, rating a thread would be an excellent option to have turned on especially for dynasties and such. This should not exclude the General Discussions section either since there are a lot of threads that would deserve a 5 star rating, like those pointing out add-ons and such, so that others won’t miss out just because of a thread title or perceived subject.

Just my 2 cents.

I see taht you have HTML code enabled. You might want to turn that off.

From the FAQ:

Quote:
Depending on the rules of the board, you may use HTML code to produce these effects. However, more often than not, the administrator will have disabled HTML code, and opted instead to use vB Code: a special set of tags which you can use to produce the most popular text-effects. vB code has the advantage that it is very simple to use, and is immune to malicious javascripts and page layout disruption.

Apparently the BB does not try to filter out any jscript code so you coudl get people doing popup windows and all other kinds of annoying crap.

Question

Can you perhaps post another sticky where we can post thread titles from the old board that we'd like moved to the new one?

The request posts could be deleted once the thread has been moved.

I'd like to have the "FOFC Numbers Racket" thread moved over, if possible.

Also, if we aren't using avatars, Ryan, if you know how, you might want to edit the postbit$ data so that the extra space between information isn't there.

Little peeves, I guess! Actually, I can do that on my own when I decide to make a skin.

For a huge database of vBulletin hacks go over to the following site:

http://www.vbulletin.org/

Almost all hacks the exist for the VB system of forums are listed, and avalible to download off of that site.

I just don't see any logic in why we don't have avatars on.

If you don't like them (I don't), then turn them off.

If you do like'em, keep it on.

[s]One suggestion to make...
Could you increase the width of the 'Your Reply' box.[/s] Nevermind. It's a netscape problem. My reply box, in netscape, is the same width as the subject box.

Oh, and another...
The 'Quick Reply' hack is nice.

And while I'm rambling...
Those 11 smilies look kinda lonely.

And since everyone else has mentioned it...
Turn on the Avatars!

Any word on the old forums conversion yet? I think it would be very detrimental to the popularity of the Dynasty Board if there was no way to move those over.
