World's Ugliest Dog Dies At 14 Santa Barbara Canine's Looks Garnered International Attention POSTED: 6:38 am PST November 22, 2005 SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The world's ugliest dog has died. Sam, the wrinkly pooch with crooked teeth from Santa Barbara died Friday, just short of his 15th birthday. His owner, Susie Lockheed, said she had Sam euthanized after a veterinarian told her his heart was failing. The hairless Chinese Crested dog is a three-time winner the ugliest animal contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair. For that, Sam gained international fame and made TV appearances in Japan, in Britain's Daily Mirror tabloid, began traveling by limousine and even met Donald Trump on a talk show set. At the time of his death, Sam was scheduled to be filmed for a Discovery Channel series on the world's ugliest species.
