NFL Week 7

I know it's about 30 minutes early, but big news out of Detroit...

Jeff Garcia will start for the Lions today. Here endeth the Joey Harrington Era.

A lot of weird coencidences here...

One of the last times the Lions made a in-season QB change, they started Koy Detmer over McMahon (I think). The Lions got Detmer from Cleveland and the game he started was in Cleveland. The Lions lost. Detmer threw for 7 (yes, seven) interceptions in that game.

Garcia played in Cleveland last year and the Lions are playing in Cleveland today.

Let's hope history does not repeat itself...

If he's still under contract, I'd trade him for a bag of pucks. Yes, pucks.

I don't know the specifics off-hand, but he's got a couple of years left and the money is substantial. If the Lions cut him the cap hit, I think, will be well over $5 million.

That was the reason for asking. Garcia is 35 and defintely not the long term answer. Do the Lions draft another QB next year?

Also Billy Volek will start against the Cards

It was Ty Detmer replacing Charlie Batch. I'm pretty sure McMahon was still in college at that point.

AWESOME, I get another week of expanded NFL coverage:

Local Game: SF at Washington. Does this game even need to be played?

AFC Game: How to Invest in Today's Stockmarket

Other options: NASCRAP, Figure Skating for Metros, Bull Riding or Women's Soccer.

I can't wait to see the afternoon games, I'll probably get the Chokeland Faiders losing again for the local game and Golf for my NFC game. Course, the game probably will be blacked out, in which case I'll get Golf and probably something like ping pong.

I NEED TO MOVE.

Big early break for the Steelers. Bengals have Chad Johnson TD overturned when it is ruled his hand hit out of bounds before the elbow and then Graham hooks a 30 yard FG. Good start by Rudi Johnson about 45 yards on the drive.

SNAP!
I checked the local TV listings and I get the Faiders for my local game and the 49'ers Postgame show for my AFC game.

Other extremely boring sports I could watch at the same time:
Golf, motorcycle racing, or Soccer in Spanish.

Am I the only one that gets screwed week in and week out on NFL programming? If I wasn't in a football pool this year I'd probably stop watching football alltogether.

Philadelphia has discovered a new way to move the football - just leave McNabb out there and let the defense rough him.

This game is a total bore. No offense, and the insistence on commercials after every set of downs is just dragging this thing out beyond belief.

Farve is having a good game as well. 211 yards and 2 TDs. It seems like he's woken up.

I watched that last drive of theirs for the TD score. It helped that driver got the YAC. Still, seeing Favre needle it in there to driver was a cool thing to see (again).

I hate these damn live scoreboards. The steelers have been ahead with 48 sec left to go in the half. It's 3rd and 9 on the steeler 21 and has been for the last 5 minutes. Is somebody hurt?

The Bengals took a timeout. Incomplete pass to Chad Johnson on the sideline. They ended up with a FG before the half.

Packers are being helped by a pathetic Vikings team. Still, I am loving this game so far. I hope Robert Furgeson is not too injured, we need him for the rest of the season and the next three weeks of tough games.

Couple things about the Packers today. They have actually given the running game a chance today. It hasn't been great but atleast they didn't go to passing after the first 5 rush attempts. And they also have the screen pass working well compared to previous games.

Still, it comes down to the Vikings just suck a lot more right now as they collapse into a rather sad excuse for a team I think.

Thanks for the update.

Gosh, gone are the days of free web radio broadcasts. I remember getting up at 10:30, preppin the vodka and redbulls, getting the computer all ready in front of the tv. cracking open the chips while the pizza is in the oven. Sitting down to an audio/visual dream in my living room...for almost no money.

im gonna cry...

I was one of the many people who really thought the Chargers were much better than that 3-3 record. After this half, I think they not only have the exact record they deserve, but I think teams should now have the blueprint to beat them:

Stack the line, blitz 40+% of the time, double Gates and LT, and let Brees and the rest of the team (including McCardell) beat you. It's worked for Denver, Pittsburgh and now the Eagles.

Don't get me wrong, the Chargers are a very good football team. And they will make the playoffs. But they aren't one of the top three teams in this league and their record is exactly what they deserve.

Just to follow - up on the non update scoreboard, all of ESPN's have stopped just before halftime.

Can someone tell me who scored the 3rd Colts TD.

Here in Baltimore, I don't expect them to change since we are a pseudo DC market.

Jeremey Newberry for the Whiners is playing possibily the worst game I have ever seen a center play in the history of this universe. I thought this guy was good? He's tipping off the snap by putting his head up EVERY PLAY right before the snap. Either he's being paid off or he's drunk. (It took the announcers over 2 quarters to notice this).

I was wrong and McMahon did start several games that year. However, I looked it up and that Cleveland game was in week 2 and McMahon didn't get significant playing time until week 11. Batch actually got his job back for several weeks after the Cleveland game before splitting time with McMahon in weeks 11 and 12. McMahon started for the next 3 weeks and then Detmer started the last 2 games of the year. That was only 4 years ago and none of us could remember it properly. Of course it wasn't much to get excited about.

And the Eagles complete an 8 play, 8 pass attempt drive for a FG to go up 10-0.

McNabb has dropped back to pass 47 times now and we still have most of the third quarter to play.

Other than that return, I think the Steelers kick coverage has been pretty good today. As long as they keep teams inside the 30 I am fine with that.

They just seem to lose it on coverage. Have been for years. Perhaps its not as bad as I am thinking.

Oh, and good little runs from the bus today.

edit.

Is Miller becoming the next Eric Green? haha. Hope so.
