FIFA 2006

Has anyone played this game yet? It sounds like the gameplay has improved some, but I'd like to hear some feedback. Also, have the insane loading times improved at all for the PS2?

I'll be getting it for the PSP.

Maybe the PS2, too, but that's still undecided as of yet.

EA sent me the PSP and GC versions a couple days ago. Been mostly messing around with the PSP version, although I hope to get some GC playtime in tomorrow.

i think the winning eleven series is better than the ea version.

FiFa feels more like arcade than simuluation like winning eleven is.

Yeah, I'm holding out for the new Winning Eleven, but love to hear some feedback on FIFA.

Winning Eleven/PES is soccer. FIFA is soccer-themed.

But from what I've been hearing from early reports this is another year of FIFA looks very nice this year but gameplay still isn't very good. PES still has better gameplay, but is still lacking in the whole franchise/multiple season field.

So, no Franchise mode included in W11? When will those Euro's learn.

W11 has a franchise mode. It's just a bit peculiar, but it's quite fun.

Basically the more you win the more $$ you make, and you can transfer in better players. But if you're contracts get too high and you don't win (e.g. make enough $$ ) you're career is over. You can play through seasons indefinitely (as far as I know) buidling/rebuilding your team.

Winning Eleven is Japanese, isn't it?

It's the NTSC version. Pro Evolution is the PAL version.

They release a Japanese version first. It's already out. The US WE usually doesn't arrive until substantially later. Well after Pro Evo has come out too.

I picked up FIFA last night and had the chance to play some games in franchise mode. Once again, FIFA has all the licenses and player names you could want. Franchise mode is definitely improved from last year, although it's still a bit clunky navigating around the screens. Definitely not as easy as WE to get around. Load times on the PS2 are reasonable. You can do things like sign sponsorship deals and hire specialists in many different categories to improve your team.

IMO, gameplay has improved substantially since the last version, which was nearly unplayable to me after my experience with WE. The player movement and passing still feels harder to manage than WE, but it is at least somewhat realistic as opposed to ridiculous. Shooting is probably my biggest complaint as the goalie seems to be about 1/2 the size of the net when you are in on net. Shooting may improve with practice or if I get better players, so I think it's wait and see.

Overall I'd say rent before you buy to make sure you can tolerate the gameplay. I'm enjoying it overall though. Since I thought FIFA 05 was awful, I suppose that says something.

Strangely enough, even though I generally loathe most EA Sports series, the FIFA series is the one I still feel is more enjoyable than the competitor's series, in this case, WE11.

I was wondering what this WE11 was ...

Pro Evolution is great fun. My best friend and I, even though we have no interest whatsoever in soccer, always enjoy playing our 'Cold War' series - Russia versus the USA. Sliding tackles all the way. Injuries on, and then some. Poor Donovan never saw them coming ...

It's made by Konami I believe, which is a Japanese company yes (and explains why it comes out in Japan and on PS six months or so ahead of the US)
