Blood Bowl - First Season

Front Office Blood Bowl

The first season is set to begin. 10 teams have signed up representing a wide range of races and coaching experience. Lets take a look at the teams.

Darwin's Theory coached by Whar

Team Synopsis
This team is the perfect Blood Bowl team. Big and tough along the frontline with speed in the back field this team has no weakness, except that I coach it. Players of note are Gore on Horn team captain and general alpha male stud. In the backfield Punk Eek and Phyletic grad make a potent one-two punch.

While this team starts very strong it has no real room for improvement except through player development. With 1 Krox and 6 Sauruses the team can only add Skinks which are never a good replacement. Look for this team to be tough early but loss that edge as the season progresses.

While the team is strong this coach will find a way to lose close games. Simple mistakes seems to plague this coach such as forgetting tackle zones with 1 Agility Saurus.

Projected Finish 5th

Gentlemen All coached by Fafrac

Team Synopsis
Coming off a brutal pre-season which saw 2 players killed Gentle Men All still managed 8 TD in 2 games. This team has very strong positional players lead by projected league MVP Elohir . Bringing both hard hitting and grace to the Blood Bowl field Elohir is remarkablely difficult to stop once he has the ball. Look for this elf to put up big games in the early stages of the season.

The frontline while small compared to some is still skilled. Look for stand outs Seramela and Mahtan to have big years on the line.

While starting the season a man down if Fafrac can guide his team to a few early wins and recover from the initial loses look for Gentlemen All to be in playoff contention by seasons end.

Projected Finish 1st

London Maulers coached by BYU14

Team Synopsis
One of 2 dwarven teams to grace our league the London Maulers bring a solid collection of the bearded midgets to the field. Trading a Troll-Slayer for an apothecary this team will be very resilient to injury. And after game 3 or so should see a second Troll-Slayer added to the line up.

Blackthorn Fieldstomper will need to have big games early in the season on defense and will need help from the Mauler's exceptional Blizter Fury Windstorm.

On offense Slash Shoulderbreaker has posted a 7 second flat 40 yard sprint making him the fastest dwarf in the history of Blood Bowl.

Projected Finish 3rd

Advance Guard coached by Arctus

Team Synopsis
Advance Guard is coming off a great pre-season. Having inflicted 5 casualties in two games outstripping their total scoring of 4 TDs they are poised to punish opposing teams this season. Touting their own contender for league MVP Wheels Wallace Advance Guard has a potent offensive attack. Where Elohir is a better pure runner Wheels has better speed and the ability to stretch a defense vertically. It remains to be seen whether thrower Tommy Gunn can capitolize on Wallace's offensive gifts since Gunn has never been the same since the beating he took from the Italien Stallion.

Advance Guard defense is lead by Leeeeroy Jennnnkins who captains a solid blitzing core.

Projected Finish 2nd

Black Powder Bulls coached by Glengoyne

Team Synopsis
The Bulls combine the strong Linemen of normal Dwarf teams with Bull Centaurs and Minotaurs of Chaos. Impressive on defense the Bulls offense suffers from fumblitis with poor agilities on all their players. The team is lead by the centaur Bronc. If Bronc can hang onto the ball look for the Bulls to have a big year. If Bronc continues his clumsy ways then Shadrack and Meshack will have to step up from the ranks of the Hobgoblins to carry this offense.

The line is catained by Yorin Lonehat a stand out on what is an exceptional set of linemen.

Projected Finish 4th

46 Dwarf Devestators coached by SirFozzie

Team Synopsis
The Devestators find themselves in a bit of a predicament. The lack of blitzers makes this team the slowest in the league but it is the off the field issues that seem to plague this team. Jeennel Jameson created quite a controversy by starting a porno career during the season break. His 'I Did You Last Summer' was a run away success but the buzz surround the revolting Dwarf on Snotling Horde scene might cause problems in the clubhouse.

To compound matters the team picked up Gouge who was at the center of last season DGH (Dwarven Growth Hormone) controversy. Gouge could never quite explain how he went for 4'1" to 6'2" between seasons. Hauled in front of Congress Gouge was questioned for hours until he lost his temper, frenzied, and killed the committee chairman. Immediately following the Special Council for Fantasy Football Like Games and Highway maintenance voted animously to reinstate Gouge.

Can SirFozzie corral the egos on this team and get them playing like a team ... not likely sports fans. Look for the 46ers to have a dismal season!

Projected Finish 7th

Orcish Snouts coached by Airhog

Team Synopsis
The Snouts are an interesting team and in Blood Bowl interesteing teams lose! Only bringing one Black Orc on the roster means Krunk has to bring his 'A' game each time. Krunk does seem equal to the task while still a young player he has impressed many coachs with his complete lack of regard for the well-being of his opponents, teammates, and any fans he contacts. Krunk maintains mid-season form by performing various felonies in the off season including stampeding cattle ... well thats not much of a crime ... what .. oh ... through the vatican ... kinky!

For the Snouts to win Gragnok is going to need to big season throwing Blinky and Strizzle. Look for teams to put the big troll on his back early or the little goblins will be flying to the end zone for scores.

Projected Finish 10th

Primus Pain coached by Katon

Team Synopsis
Primus Pain has completely adopted the vertical passing attack investing much of the team off seasons resources towards Sardius. Sardius is easily the best thrower in the league with a fine target in the form of Mitius. However many around the league question whether Sardius is the player to lead this team across the Rubicon.

Much of the success of this team will rest with the Twin Terrors Oroneon and Derus two of the better blizters in the league.

While a solid ball club too much emphasis on Sardius arm will be this teams undoing.

Projected Finish 6th

Ye Old NFL Boys coached by Alf115

Team Synopsis
The 'meat and potatos' of the Orc teams in the league. Carrying 4 Black Orc Blockers including team captain Meike Alstout and 2 Blizters including projected league Defensive Player of the Year Prezt Haulmz and the always dangerous thrower Paytang Man Ing one would think I would have them finishing higher than 8th but I am out of numbers and I do not want to redo my previous work. So they are going to have to suck this season!

Projected Finish 8th

Dregs of Gorfolk coached by Chasncinti

Team Synopsis
A late arriving team to the league it is still in the process of finishing its paperwork. Some other coachs have questioned how it aquired its players and the level of competition they will present. Fafrac of Gentlemen All noted that Baag, Beeg, Biig, Bleeg, Boog, and Buug all appear in consecutive order in the Gorfolk Municipal Phonebook. Leading many coachs to wonder if these were just the first 5 people to say yes for filling the last few spots on the team.

Owner and coach Chasncinti was reported to be very upset with Fafrac noting the name order is a mere coincidence. He further suggested that an Elf lacked the 'moral' stamina to last an entire season in Blood Bowl to which Fafrac suggested that Chasncinti, the team Dregs of Gorfolk, and the entire population of Gorfolk's parents had only met once and even then just briefly.

Such a statement by Fafrac would have resulted in the coach's death in any other town but the Dreg's have a fan factor of 1. Which means only 6 people in the town even knows the team exists and 4 of those are a little cheesed at Buug for vomitting into the punch bowl at last week's Orc's and Troll's North Baptist singles mixer.

Projected Finish 9th

Those are the teams. Whew I am glad that is done!

Alf,

Yes you are allowed to complete 2 games prior to league play. Once you have completed your first league game though all games from that point must be league sanctioned games. If you need an opponent I have a Skaven and Wood elf team with just a few games that might make good opponents.

This goes for all coachs in the league. If you want to get a little experience with your team you are allowed 2 games. This will get you a little money and a few star player points. The down side is you may start the season a man or two down due to injuries.

If you are concerned about injuries in pre-season try to avoid teams with Mighty Blow and Dirty Players. Those special abilities increase the liklihood of injuries.

Thanks Whar, I'll be lookign at some non "bully" teams to prepare for pre-season.

PS : maybe we could put our usual availabilty playing time somewhere as I am living in France and I assume most of our leaguemates are USA based.

My Schedule.

Monday-Friday 5:30pm Pacific to 11:00pm Pacific
Saturday - Sunday 8am Pacific to 11:00pm Pacific

Pacific time is GMT -8 I beleive which puts me 9 hours behind you Alf.

BYU14 I believe is London based so you might be able to schedule a few games against him. I would be happy to play you this weekend if your schedule allows.

You dont have to use irc to play right? I mean, you could use aol, or yahoo, etc... since you just need an IP to start it up...

M-F 7-11 PM Pacific(GMT-8) games during this time will have to be arranged in advance. Just to make sure I open a window of time up for the game.
Saturday and Sunday I'll generally be available. I can even get up early to help accomodate the Europeans in the league.

I'm suspecting that I'll have to essentially negotiate a time to play each opponent.

Whatever means coachs wish to use to contact one another to setup games is fine. I mention IRC because the site maintain an IRC server where you can contact dozens of players to set up games.

My time
M-F : 9pm-1am (not much later than that)
WE : anytime, but that needs to be shceduled.

I don't know if we could start the League this week, it seems a bit early for me, no ?

Considering I spent like 3 hours last night trying to make a schedule I think we might hold off starting the league till next week end. All I am trying to do is get each team to played each other once. Yet everytime I set up the schedule I always end with 2 teams on 2 weeks that will face each other. Its driving me crazy!!!!

I definitely want each coach the chance to complete any pre-season games they wish. I highly reccommend they do so. The extra games will really help.

*EDIT*
Alf you are GMT + 1 right?

I assume you are talking about trying to create a round-robin with 10 teams? Look at this wiki article. Towards the bottom, they describe a fairly straightforward process to pair up teams over a round-robin schedule. Takes a little time, but it works.

Week #1 Schedule

League Start Date 09/05/2005
Week #1 Completion Date 09/11/2005

The league week will run from Monday to Sunday. One game will be scheduled per week. Each team plays every other team once for a 9 game schedule. I am including home field advantage though it is meaningless to the Blood Bowls rules. Due to the odd number game schedule half the teams have 5 home games and half have 4. While home field advantage does not effect the game I thought it might add a bit of flavor to beat someone on the road or defend your home field.

Games
HOME TEAM ............................... AWAY TEAM
----------------------------------- ----------------------
Primus Pain ................................. Ye Olf NFL Boys
Gentle Men All.............................. 46 Dwarf Devestators
Darwin's Theory............................ Dregs of Gorfolk
Advance Guard............................. Orcish Snouts
London Maulers ........................... Black Powder Bulls

Complete Season schedule to follow for each team. Thanks for the offer MIJB but I stumbled through it ... I never created a schedule and did not realize it could be so tricky! I eventually found that the site had a tournament generator.

The first week using the sites tournament generator is listed above. I do not want to start a tournament since I think that locks the teams into that tournament and restricts their play I do not want to start it till all coachs have their team ready to go. So league will start on 09/05/2005 at the lastest or when all coachs PM me stating their team is ready to go.

A note of league scoring. The basic is 2 points for a win and 1 for a tie. The site will track standing points for TDs, casualties, and interceptions too. I think we should just do a basic 2/1 for the first season and see how that plays. If a majority of coachs want a different scoring system please let me know and I would be happy to change it.

P.S. I think the site orders the tournament by poistion in the group, 1 plays 10 2 play 9 etc. If I am wrong and it has a randomized starting position then week #1 games might change when I initiate the actual tournament. I sorry if this happens but it is beyond my control.

Dola thread just to be clear.

League starts the latest Sept 5th. If all coachs have their 2 games completed or are happy with the team as is we can start sooner.

No problem. I actually had a 10-team 9 week schedule worked it in about 5 mins, but I guess you don't need it anymore.

It'll be fun to check in every once in while to see how Alf's team is doing. It helps that he picked an orcs&goblins army.

'E' before 'A' when discussing Elves

(Smack On)

Sir Fozzie,

Barely one beard between the lot of you and you are already talking about smashing Elves. Don't think I didn't notice the Freudian slip in your team name. I know you slipped the "e" in there instead of the "a" as latent homoerotic Elf envy. Whar is 0 - 6 - 1 against me so far and the one tie was against my Dwarf team. That says all you need to know about Dwarves and a little bit about my generous nature tossing the kid brother a bone like that after six spankings. Whenever you finish your next DGH cycle, get on over to Barak Varr and see which one of your Monitors is still floating and come to Ulthuan. I ain't hiding.

Fafrac

(Smack Off)

Hey Everyone,

I hope this letter finds you well. Thanks for letting me play and thank you to Whar for putting the time and effort it took to get this thing off the ground. SirFozzie let me know when you would like to play. I notice you haven't played your pre-season games yet. If you want to make it a bit of a marathon, I could use one of my existing teams (Khemri, Dwarf, or Orc) or make up a new one to knock out the two pre-season games and then we could do the main event. Otherwise let me know when you are ready. I work at home and the children start school Monday so sneaking off for a quick game is not impossible for me. I look forward to playing all of you and good luck to everyone.

Fafrac

(Smack Back On)

Fafrac 6 - 0 - 1
Whar 0 - 6 - 1

Fafrac TDs 18
Whar TDs 6

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

for the record, I can't login to FOFC from home.... Been like that for a week. So anyone wanted to play me should contact me through fumbbl irc chat (good), or any of my AIM/Yahoo/MSN messenger.

PMing Katon now to see when we can schedule our first game. I think it is ok if we do it in advance.

Season is still set to go this monday. If I do not hear from Airhog or BYU14 I will assume they have dropped from league. SO if you two could reply or send a PM I would appreciate it. If I do have to drop anyone I am certain the first week games will change.

Good luck all.

I've been swamped. Anyone else need to play any games? I should be around this weekend. PM me here, and I'll see if we can work it out. I've made a human team, so I'll be playing them.

Also after reading up, I've discovered that we should have set a max Team Rating rather than just two games. Cause now those stinky lizards have an advantage. Whoever plays them first needs to kill some stuff. =)

The first game of the FOFC Bloodbowl season is in the books. The Black Powder Bulls defeated Darwin's Theory 2-1 on a fair weather pitch today. The box score is available here. To view a replay you will need to download and install the Blood Bowl Java player, and click on the replay link on the box score. The instructions and required download links can be found on the FUMBBL.com FAQ page. It only takes a couple of minutes to do, and will allow you to see in pretty good detail how the game turned out.

Note: Fumbbl went down in the middle of our game, and Whar and I had to restart when it came back up. As a result the replay doesn't show most of the first half, and some of the stats are mixed up...like the score.

The following is an excert from the Bull's team reporter's game summary.

"Toe" Nail, the stingiest of the Bull's hobgoblins, brought home the MVP while scoring two touchdowns. He simply refused to give up the ball once he came across it. He carried the ball from every step of the way for the Bull's first score. He was tripped up just as he would have scored, but managed to recover and scoop up the ball for the touchdown on his very next opportunity.

The Theory embarrased the Bull's with their kickoff return. The Bulls blitz was rendered impotent by a nifty bit of misdirection, and the bruising rushing style of the Natural Selector. Dwarfs and Hobgoblins were left sprawling in the Kroxigor's wake as he rumbled for the score, niftilly heaving his oversized body into the endzone just as the first half expired.

The Bulls kicked off to Darwin in the second half, and fared a bit better on Defense in this half. Rumor has it that their coach felt they were playing soft in the face of the stronger lizards, and ordered them to mix it up. Midway through the second half one of the Theory's Skinks broke free with the ball and saw so much daylight that not one of the Bulls could catch him. Well none of them, save "Toe" Nail. "Toe" closed the gap, and actually found an extra gear(GFI) that gave him just enough range to knock the skink off its feet. The Hobgoblin then deftly scooped up the ball, and started directing traffic for his return. The Bulls quickly setup a makeshift cage, that "Toe"Nail lead all the way to the end zone for a turn seven winning score. The Theory were left with not enough time to counter, and ended the game just steps from the Bulls goal.

Toe complained before the game that he wasn't getting enough "ball time", and that he was out to fix that tonight. He certainly managed that. Other than a couple of Scalebacks, "Toe" was the only player to touch the ball. The game-plan was for him to approach the goal, and then slip the ball forward to hopeful offensive star, Bronc, for the easy score. "toe" insists that the opportunity to hand off never presented itself. Indeed Bronc and Toe are now tied for the Bull's overall scoring lead. The centaur's confidence seems to have faltered after the Bull's blitz play at the end of the second half left him flat on his face in the Theory's backfield.

Coach Whar was heard mumbling and cursing something about cursed die rolls and lucky stunties after the game, and otherwise witheld comment.

-------------
-------------

Note there is a "luck" indicator on the Box Score, and Whar will probably quickly point out that He had a distinctly poor outting with the dice. I think he is just jealous of my team's three re-rolls. On a day like today(65% luck), I had re-rolls left unused.

In any case I think his complaining is just sour grapes, and apparently his scaley fans agree. The Theory lost a point of fan factor due to the whinging, while the Bulls picked one up along with a victory.

It really was a frustrating start to league play. I had 7 turns end early on double 2s or less, 3 turns to double ones. The 'luck' stat the game keeps had me at 38% and the Bulls at 67%. My Krox lost 3 turns to his bone head ability all were 1s. Which is normal if I moved him every time but he was often saved toward the end of my turn which were ending quite early.

Glen played a fine game maximizing his team nicely. Even with the terrible rolls I was one or two plays away from winning. The play Glen mentions with "Toe" Nail was a great example. Toe hurdle a tackle zone 33% chance to fail ... Pushed with a 16% chance to fail ... hit my skink having about a 25% to knock the ball loose (he did) and not end his turn ... the ball then scattered onto Toe Nail 1 in 9 chance ... Toe picked the ball up 67% chance ... and advanced it one step back down field. It was just that kind of game.

Glen also made 7 one die blocks ... he rolled 5 or 6 six times.

Just wanting to mention that with the $80,000 gate we brought in, the Bulls have signed Troll Underbridge. That along with "Toe" Nail's Plus STR skill roll will upgrade the Bulls a bit in the strength department.

I had planned on making "Toe" my kicker, and then I go and roll box cars.

True enough. There was one point at the end of the game, when we believed that Whar still had time enough to score..Ooops bad clock management all around there.. that the dice turned a bit against me.

I had to make a knockdown block on a skink, to free up my centaur for the blitz on the ball carrier. It was a three die block, meaning I rolled three blocking dice, and got to pick the result I liked best. I needed a four five or six on any of the three dice. I rolled three threes, a simple push block that leaves the player standing. That was unacceptable, so I used one of my team re-rolls. I immediately rolled three threes again. So now Bronc had to make an always dangerous dodge away from the stunty little skink, which he accomplished. He then promptly ran the ball carrying skink down, threw another three dice block, and rolled a couple of failures and a Bang/POW that would have floored the little lizzard, but the git was saved by his dodge skill.

He has sent email or PM to me regarding the league since then. Drop him a PM here and at FUMBBL, and we'll see what happens.
