The Inventor of Ctl-Alt-Del Speaks

I'm not quite sure how to characterize Bill Gates' reaction at the end...

I believe Gates has Asperger's, and no sense of humor is a condition of that syndrome.

I'm assuming you are referring to my post. It's not a joke...Aspergers is still being defined but currently it is listed as a type of Autism.

Not that I personally care about Gates, but I do think critizing someone for something they can't control is unfair.

Never heard of it before, and I don't see anything confirming that Gates has it. I just thought his lack of reaction was funny. If it's caused by a medical condition, I guess that would explain it.

Asperger patients are my favorite patients of all to work with. I have 4 of them in my autism clinic. I've never heard that Bill Gates has Aspergers.

Edit: I'm not doubting your info. I just never knew. I always try to keep in mind at least a few "successful" people with each disorder that I treat so I can say to my patient that this person was successful despite their disorder and you can be too.

Just a quick google search pulls up a bunch of blogs/articles suggesting he shows some of hte traits, like rocking and being socially awkward. Also, there was a Time Mag article suggesting he had it, as well.

Ok - I thought it was a bad joke, actually, because my son is in the process of being diagnosed with it. I've documented the process in a thread here entitled "The Joys of Parenting (or lack thereof)". I wasn't sure if you were aware of the that thread and was just poking fun - my apologies as we're a little defensive about it.

True, it's not necessarily the nicest thing to "poke fun" at people for being different. However, you can't blame others for not having the knowledge or awareness of Asperger's - I have enough problems trying to convince the loved ones around me.

Of course, the simplest answer could be the correct one - he doesn't like being the subject/butt of jokes.

Craig,

I wasn't aware of your other thread, and would never do something so insensative. About a year ago my son was monitored and Asperger symptoms were noted (by the way - this is where I became aware of Bill Gates having this syndrome), but there were enough counter-indicators to keep the specialists from labeling him. He has outgrown a number of the issues and we have now determined that he actually suffers from sensory integration issues. He's doing much better now, but we still have rough periods. You and your son are in my prayers.

It's been rumored and widely believed in the Asperger's community that Gates has Asperger's for years, but nobody inside the Gates' circle has ever addressed the question, afaik.
