NYC releases new audio archives of 9/11/01.

God... reading some of this stuff is like a stomach punch.

Getting close to four years now since the attacks.

It's the lead story on CNN.com now.

It's good that it's so raw, I guess.. so that we will never gloss over that day's events.

Not really sure what the point of going through this is, then. If "potentially painful" parts can be redacted, why release any of it? Isn't all of it going to be painful on one level or another?

And isn't it more important to have an historically accurate record, embarrassment be damned? What are they afraid of here?

Heard some of it today and let me tell you....it is chilling to hear the voices of the doomed. ie a Firefighter asking for help because he's trapped in the rubble. Ugh, gave me goose bumps all over.
