King Kong (Peter Jackson)

I just saw the trailer for this and...wow. Yowsa. It looks incredible.

Peter Jackson, the director of Lord of the Rings, is the director. He's brought it back to the 1930s era. It looks incredible. Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrian Brody star, with Andy Serkis (Gollum) doing Kong and another character.

There aren't many movies on my must-see list, but this one just made the top.

I'm not really that excited about. I did get a bit of a shock from my wife when we watched the trailer together - she was asking me what the movie was about, having never seen King Kong. How do you get through life without at least a passing knowledge of King Kong???

How do you marry a woman without first finding out she doesn't have a passing knowledge of King Kong?!?!

ah okay, shows you how my "passing knowledge" of King Kong is very passing?

Will probably be a very cool movie to go see with the kid, as he's loved dinosaurs and all the Jurassic Park movies. He'll like that one with a t-rex and a big gorilla

Yeah Kong's island has all kinds of giant monsters on it, dinosaurs, etc. He's just the meanest one.

Yep, dangerous Kong-worshipping natives, dinosaurs, giant man-eating spiders (although that scene was cut out of the original), and a knock-down, dragout between Kong and a T-rex!!! Everything a kid could want in a movie!

*edit* Of course, I'm speaking of the Willis O'Brien classic original, and not the hideous 70's Rick Baker in an ape suit remake -- although it is interesting to note that Kong was shot down from the World Trade Center Towers rather than the Empire State building in the remake.

Remember the guys who made Independence Day? Remember how everybody thought it was cool, and when they said they would remake Godzilla, it was going to be the biggest thing ever?

I wonder if this is history repeating itself. That being said, LOTR was infinitely better than ID4.

Yeah, Godzilla was horrible. Abysmal. Awful. But Jackson's "King Kong" seems pretty much to be a more traditional re-make as opposed to the sort of re-creation of Godzilla that happened before. God that was a bad movie.

King Kong looks pretty amazing, but I just can't get that excited about it. As a kid I always liked the movie (I liked all monster movies), but the story and giant apes just don't do much for me. I will still see it.

I really wasn't expecting much from this movie when I heard it was going to be made. But when I saw the trailer, I wasn't sure what it was at first and liked the idea. As soon as they showed the part that they're heading towards the island, I was like "Oh sweet!" and now I can't wait to see it.

There is no denying Jackson is a talented filmmaker, but his choice of movies is terrible. I saw about a total of 20 minutes of LOTR and don't plan on seeing any of King Kong

so, if you haven't seen any movie he's directed since, say, at least 1996, what makes you say he's a talented filmmaker?

Yeah, that was what I really liked about the trailer. And Jack Black actually seemed to be able to act that part, which really impressed me.

Maybe thats why they call him "King" Kong and not prince Kong, or Duke Kong. Actually, I think I could play a duke like Kong very well. Maybe I should call my agent

What, were you hoping Ray Harryhausen would come out of retirement and do some old-school stop-motion special effects? You know, those 21st century special effects sure ruined the Lord of the Rings trilogy...

The only downside is that as soon as I saw the message in my inbox that Buc had responded is that I knew someone would beat me to the "Buc was there" joke

Trailer looks awesome except that I dont know if Adrian Brody can pull off that role, I just don't see him as the swashbuckling hero type. That and Jessica Lange in the 1976 version still makes my heart flutter, I dont think I can see any other woman in that role and forget Jessica.

Yes, becuase the world was very dull back in the 1930s and monsters moved and looked different in 1930 and things blew up and crashed very differently. Indeed.

You obviously have not seen artistic period movies (like in the film noir genre) if you think we have to make things look like a modern-day revision of such a period in order to sell to a mass audience. Oh wait...

Amen, Heavenly Creatures was one of my favorite movies even before I even heard that Jackson was going to direct LOTR, and when I did hear my reaction was "Wow, this guy will do a great job" even though he was fairly unknown at the time.
