MLB trivia

16 current MLB players have played their whole careers for only one team, and have been with that one team for 10+ seasons. How many can you name?

This could be looked up easily, hopefully noone cheats.

I wanna say Brad Radke for this, he has to be close to 10 years if he isn't there yet. I also think Bernie Williams would be one.

I think Sweeney's on his 10th or 11th season here in KC.

Speaking of Yankees, has Posada played 10+ seasons?

Has Kirk Reuter played anywhere but the Giants? I'm pretty sure he's been around long enough.

NM, already listed ... posts coming fast in this thread.

Wonder if Graves would have been on that list up until a couple of weeks ago.

Hoffman shouldn't be on the list. He played in 28 games for the Marlins in his first year, 1993, before being dealt in the Sheffield deal.

I vote we replace him with Darren Dreifort.

I guess Dreifort isn't on the list because he didn't appear in any games in '95, or '02. So despite being with LA for 11 seaons, he has only played 9.

Speaking of Dreifort though, the guy has made roughly $43 million over the past 4 seaons, and won just 9 games, only pitching about 205 innings.

Maybe ESPN considers a "lifer" as a guy who's spent at least 10 years with one team, even if it's not his only team, although I doubt it. I don't really trust ESPN.com's accuracy with these types of things anymore.

It's amazing to see the Yankees, with all of their free agent signings and frequent trade deadline dealings, to have 25% of the lifers.

Fooking ESPN !

Though the only reason I thought about it is because either last week or earlier this week I was watching a either a Padres game (I believe... it was on INHD channel, IIRC) and they were discussing how Hoffman was included in the Sheffield deal.

Though with ESPN, you never have a clue what you are going to get.

Of course the funny part is in ESPN's stat listing of Hoffman, they do have his time as a Marlin. It would be cheap if they considered him with only the Padres, since he was traded as a rookie.

But every single one of them is overpaid so it's kindof an unfair characterization. It's like the "homegrown" Yankees myth from the late 90s. No other team is insane enough to pay Jeter $17M or Williams $12M. Their idea of a "hometown" contract is Rivera at $10M and Posada at $10M, only somewhat above market value. I bet if the A's were clinically insane and had a near limitless bankroll, they could have offered $110M to Giambi too and had yet another "lifer".
