I need to get into a sports game (help me pick)

I need help deciding what game to get into. I like certain games for certain reasons and am basially trying to elevate some games while eliminating others via this poll. I'm huge into realism and would want accurate rosters and sliders (for games/styles that require sliders).

I haven't had a true dynasty/more than one season experience with a game for some time now!

Please vote and leave comments. Thanks a lot!

I'd go ahead and get OOTP6 if you haven't yet.

It will be good for one or two good solo dynasties and then you can join an online league once you get the hang of things and have a really great time.

FM 2005 or WSM 2005 even if you don't follow soccer it is that good of a game.

I haven't even played it & I'd agree with you -- given the criteria stated, I think it's almost a slamdunk choice.

FM. It's easily the best choice given your criteria. Even though I'm very annoyed at my team in the game right now. Then again, that is sort of the point. It is SO immersive.

Yeah, I've played a ton of OOTP (Set up two leagues which are still going today). I wish they had player stats for against each individual pitcher. That's the detail I want (which I understand will be in the new game).

About FM, or CM or whatever...I've heard the good things about this game for years. Convince me that I could get into a soccer game (even though I know nothing about soccer).

Also, in the soccer games what is your role? Is it very specific? Too many of these games have you as the GM/Owner/Coach which is silly IMO.

Thanks for the advice! Keep it coming!

I played a few years of soccer as a youth, but knew nothing about professional soccer when I started playing CM 4 and CM 03/04. I learned through the game, and the game was so good that I (like others on this board) started going out of my way to watch soccer on TV to pick up strategies. Your role is to be a manager of a professional team. As the manager, you have the ability to acquire players for your team (although sometimes the board won't cooperate and the board is in charge of finances and ultimately in charge of the team.) You have the ability to design various tactics (the possibilities are really quite staggering.) You also have the ability to set up training strategies for your players (although training is one of the weaker areas of the game IMHO.) You also can play mind games in the media with other managers, you have to manage player personalities (there are many different personalities and each can be a challenge to manage, particularly if the player is very talented. Then again, one of my favorite most dominating defenders is just the model professional.)

In short, it is a very complex game that is very immersive and addicting. I still enjoy other text sims, but they also seem somewhat shallow in comparision.

Graphics Game: ESPN NFL, or NHL... with the right slider combos those games are awesome.

Sims: FM's the best, but I can't get into it... so the next best choice IMO is EHM 2005, I'm loving it so far. So that or OOTP, although I haven't touced OOTP in about 4 months...

Wow, you guys really love soccer! Well, ok, Football Manager is too good of a game to pass it. But I can't stand real life soccer anymore, so I never played it. I tried, but I couldn't get into it. Maybe I have to try a fictional universe???

Anyway, I voted Front Office Football. If you're searching for something quick and immediate to learn, but detailed at the same time, that is the right choice to me. I assumed, from your poll, that you don't have it. My advice: go buy it now!!! You won't regret it.

If you need to choose one on the XBOX, I'd say NCAA 2005. Had a lot of fun with it.
Also College Hoops 2K5 was very enjoyable, although it's a little buggy.

I think I'm going to either try the TPB 2005, EHM FE or FM 2005. Still can't decide which one...neither is my favorite sport.

I love football and baseball but am sick of the football games and feel like playing OOTP is a waste right now until the new patch or whatever comes out.

Should I just wait until the OOTP update comes out? I wish OOTP7 was close! :-(

Thanks for all of the advice!

P.S. Does anyone want to trade me a liscence for a game I am looking to try? I don't think I'll get into to either game I listed but I'd love to at least try. If it's legal, I'd trade a FOF 2k4 (or whatever the newest one is) or TPF or OOTP6.

The reason that I like TPB so much (haven't played it lol) is that it has the PURE GM mode which is what I've wanted in a sports game for some time (any specific role for that matter...not shared roles).

Does CM 2005 have specific roles? I mean, HANDCUFFED roles!

Thanks!

LOL. 11 replies and not one recommended FOF, yet the poll goes for that. It's not surprising, though, when you consider this message board is named Front Office Football Central.

TPB 2005 - I'm also waiting on the ootp update. TPB has been quite fun and immersive as well.

I want EHM as well, but I'm waiting on the digital download.. at least so far.
