Got planes?

Hey all,
I went to the Joint Forces Open House air show on Sunday, and ended up taking some pictures of the planes and helos (some of which turned out pretty damn good, if I do say so myself). Figured I'd share them with the bunch, and ask if any of you can help identify them.

Most of them are identified, thanks to some members here and some members of the HT community and also thanks to my friend Eric. But, in case any of them are mis-identified or if anybody knows what the 4 or 5 ones I haven't identified yet are, please let me know. Much thanks!!!

Cool! I watched the Blue Angels practice and then perform from my backyard last weekend. I could see the pilots helmets as they would circle back towards the base.

Also at our air show was a pearl harbor re-enactment with zero's, torpedo bombers and P-51's (although I don't think P-51's were around in 1941). Complete with smoke and explosions and air raid sirens. I had never seen WWII era planes actually flying around.

They also showed off a B-24 and B-17 in fly-bys. Those were all such beautiful planes.

For homecoming at the Air Force Academy, they have about a zillion fly-bys of all kinds of aircraft, but nothing was as badass as the B-52 that just crept over the edge of the stadium and rocked its wings as it rumbled past. It seemed to shake the enitre stadium. Darth vader would have called it, "impressive".

The Angels clearly *love* to practice over Annapolis. I was once on a bridge over a small nearby river when they barreled right by -- without a doubt no more than 50 feet above the bridge. Unreal.

Yesterday, I could see out my office window as they blew by -- two times, I was certain they were going to clip the "apple" off the top of the State House. Awesome.

Glad to hear it! As some of you know, I work in a test squadron here in Louisiana that are home of the only test pilots in the world that take the B-52 on low-level training and bombing runs. They are called the "lowriders". I was given a free ride on one flight in the empty IP (instructor pilot) seat located behind the pilot.

This shot was taken in New Mexico/Texas area and was in a valley with cliff walls on the left. We were at 1,000 feet. When they do not have guest's like me, they will take it down to 400 feet or less! It's all about radar/SAM avoidance ultimately. Crazy if you ask me. But a hell of a ride.

I don't know if you go to their shows or not, but when the announcer tells you to watch the planes coming in for your (left or right) and you see them off in the distance and you wait and wait and then another plane or two screams overhead from behind you just above the deck....same tremendous rumble, but scares the crap out of you, that is the fun stuff for them!

I wouldn't be suprised if the lowriders were the guys that did the fly-by. Fighters are cool and they scream, but that B-52 had a real oh-shit quality, and it was the fan favorite by far.

When I was growing up in North Dakota, our farm was right under the B-52 test range when they were converting them to low level attacks.
A couple of times a week, for 6 months or so, they would scream over the place at a 100 feet. It was pretty awesome.

By the way the U2 isn't stealth.

Seriously, the most amazing thing is watching an AC-130 doing a live fire exercise. A couple of those could turn Yankee Stadium, for example, into sand in about 10 seconds.

Those things are pretty awesome when the right scenario for their use comes up (such as demolishing Yankee Stadium.)

Another noteworthy sighting regarding planes.

We had the French Air Force and their mirages in town all week for a joint training excercise. Those things were pretty cool up close and personal.

The only odd part was that the Royal Dutch Air Force provided all the support for them. I'm going to assume that was just part of the joint excercise and not the way it always works.

One of my coolest airshow memories was at an airshow at TSTI airfield in Waco. The Blue Angels were there, and my girlfriends dad worked at a company based at the field, so we got to go behind the ropes. We sat down on a spot that was parallel to show center, so when the planes would break, it was right over our head. It felt like you could just reach out and touch them, and was damn cool.
