I never got around to playing SE4, but it seemed like it was very popular. I will probably give SE5 a shot when it comes out. The one thing I dislike about GalCiv is that it is only single player.

I sort of liked SE IV, but couldn't get into it much. It just was too complicated and felt too much like a spreadsheet.

I really enjoyed SE IV for a few weeks, until I figured out tactics to defeat the AI too consistently.

Dola -
I'll be waiting for SE V reviews, and hoping they are good before purchasing. |

I still play the game. There are tons of different mods for this game, and a couple that really improve the AI. I will be buying this game when it first comes out. If only for the all the cool mods that the community will make.

I liked SEIV Gold. I really liked how you could not only design the ships, but the fighters, mines, ground troops, etc. Just about everything. My main problem with the game was diplomacy and AI. The diplomacy module seemed like it was just thrown in, all of the AI players would just get angrier and angrier with me...for what seemed like no reason at all. It's weird having a Partnership with a race who also has a mood or "murderous" towards me. Plus, it was really easy to beat the AI.

Agreed, sab.
In general, though, SEIV had a great space "feel" to it. The whole graphic presentation worked well for me, issues with the AI/diplomacy notwithstanding.

Exactly. Those are my two biggest problems with the game. The graphics look nicer in this version, but I hope they fix diplomacy and the AI. |

Wow, looks like SE5 and GalCiv 2 might come out at the same time. I'll definitely be picking up one of them

For whatever reason, GalCiv just fell flat with me. I traded it away very quickly.

Good to see, I'm a huge SEIV fan and will definitely pick this up. Like others, I'd like to see a diplomacy/AI upgrade, some of the IV mods helped with that but there were some basic design issues. Great game though.
