Moss traded to the Raiders?

Saw this on KFFL

Quote:
Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings WR Randy Moss' agent, Dante DiTrapano, has said the Vikings have agreed to trade Moss to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for the seventh-overall selection in the 2005 NFL Draft, a late-round 2005 draft pick and LB Napoleon Harris. NFL trades cannot become official until March. "Nothing is official until March 2," DiTrapano told the Pioneer Press Wednesday, Feb. 23. "But don't be surprised if Randy Moss is wearing the Silver and Black this upcoming season." The Raiders will assume Moss' $7.25 million base salary for 2005 while the Vikings receive a cap savings of nearly $2 million. Moss has four seasons remaining on his contract.

[edit]ESPNEWS ran the same story, also quoting the Pioneer Press article.

LB Napoleon Harris, a 7th rounder and another late-rounder don't seem like something even the Vikings would go for.

I find this improbable, given the current status of the Vikings ownership situation.

Could it be one of those hacked website reports like at the beginning of the season, a report got out that Portis was out for 6-8 weeks due to injury?

Meh - I think there's gotta be more than Harris and a 1st round pick. A second or 3rd rounder as well - you would think.

From fanball.com:
The Vikings released cleared some roster space on Tuesday by releasing five players. The team released center Cory Withrow, cornerbacks Terrance Shaw and Rhett Nelson, running back Larry Ned, and wide receiver Kenny Clark, according to the Star Tribune.

*****
He sucked but you'd think they'd keep him if they'd just shipped Moss out.

I don't know. With the 7th overall, you could probably get Mike Williams.

So then the Vikings would target a WR at the top of the draft perhaps? That still seems awfully light to me. And the Raiders are pretty well-stocked at receiver should this come to pass...

They could go with Burleson, Robinson, Campbell and guys and really focus on running the ball and improving the defense. It's the only way they have a chance to win a Superbowl.

No.

a late-round 2005 draft pick

does not equal a late first round pick.

Vikes will get # 7 overall, a late round pick (5th, 6th, or 7th rounder probably) and Napolean Harris.

I'm reeeally wondering how Moss' ankle is now. Throw in a bad ankle with his attitude problems and the fact that their are a couple of decents corners (and Braylon Edwards and Mike Williams up there) in the draft - I'm thinking this might not be SO bad.

I don't see Randall being very happy with who they have to throw it to him down there in Oakland.

How is Oakland looking cap-wise? They have room to make some moves?

The reporter Sean Jensen is on ESPNEWS right now and he says the late round pick is a seventh rounder.

Moss to be traded to Oakland, agent confirms
Mark Craig, Star Tribune
February 24, 2005 VIKE0224

The Vikings and Oakland Raiders have agreed to a trade that will send Vikings receiver Randy Moss to the Raiders in exchange for the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, linebacker Napoleon Harris and a low-round draft pick this year, a person with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.

"It's sort of a bittersweet moment for Randy," said his agent, Dante DiTrapano. "He had seven years in Minnesota, and he loved being a Viking. But, at the same time, this gives him a better chance to win a Super Bowl. The Oakland Raiders have vowed to use Randy like he has been used the past seven years, and that's throw the ball deep."

NFL trades can't become official until March 2. Because of that, the Vikings aren't able to comment on Moss' status.

"We've had discussions with the Raiders, but we have nothing to say about it," said Rob Brzezinski, Vikings vice president of football operations. "That's all we can say."

Moss has been rumored to be on the trading block since the end of a injury-plagued and controversial-filled 2004 season. Brzezinski said the Vikings did not shop Moss, and that the Raiders contacted them recently to initiate trade talks.

Is he serious? Aren't the Raiders a ways off here?

Gannon is done due to his neck injury. Collins will be back, as far as I know.

To go along with my Jerk Magnet theory, Jeff George is coming available after his release by the Bears. Westward ho, my friend.

i am a big Raider Fan.

i think this is a great trade for the Raiders. AL Davis loves the Vertical Game and Moss will do great in that.

Raiders now need a big time running game. Maybe they can talk Ricky William out of retirement

There running game sucks the last few years.

My theory is that since it can't be made official until March 2, this was leaked to get a reaction and to help solidify the associated picks.

It allows the Vikes the time to backpedal if it is seen as a bad deal. Just my theory though.

WOW, Collins, Moss, Porter, Curry and Gabriel will be exciting to watch.

From a talent standpoint, this trade is not even close. Moss is one of the most talented receivers in the league, if not ever. This is a weak draft class at the top, though Minnesota will get someone good with the 7th pick. The late rounder is worthless. Harris has some talent, but as someone who watches the Raiders every game, he, like most of the defense, was terrible last season. The question obviously is concerning the cap room Moss takes up (maybe meaning less defensive players) and his attitude. Still, it's hard to pass up that kind of talent when you don't have to give up all that much really.

Not related to sov's post (I didn't read the link), but do you ever wonder if these trade ideas get leaked just to see what the public's reaction is, before it becomes official?
