Any lacrosse fans?

NBC is televising the NLL All-Star game from Calgary this Saturday. I suppose I should be a fan considering I like hockey and we have a team that is the defending NLL Champions but I can't honestly say I've ever seen a game. This is "box lacrosse" whatever that means.

I could probably score tickets for this game. Would it be worth seeing?

I follow college lacrosse a little bit. The NLL is a pro indoor league, so I guess "box" is another term for "indoor". I guess that it's sort of like the translation of soccer and football from an outdoor game (huge field) to an indoor arena. Thus play is a little more frenetic, though I still like the outdoor version better (for all three sports). I've seen some pro lacrosse on TV, but I couldn't get too into it. It's more of a college game here in the US.

The all-star game might be worth seeing live though, since the quality of play ought to be pretty good as most of the players were stars in college...

Though looking at the team rosters, there is a pretty large percentage of Canadians, most of whom played via junior club teams. I was thinking about more along the lines of Major League Lacrosse, which is an outdoor pro league which is mostly former American college players.

Anybody have thoughts as to why more Canadians play in the indoor league?

I've seen it on TV before. It is easy to learn and pretty entertaining.

The NLL is actually a very entertaining league. The Toronto Rock are on TV most weeks, and actually get excellent crowds -- in the 15,000 range, I believe. Ottawa had a team for a season or two (before it moved/folded, like every Ottawa team does) and I went to a few games. Very entertaining stuff.

you mean stuff like the Swedish Elite hockey league, or a replay of the 1993 Stanley Cup match between the Nordiques and the Canadiens, or the NHL all-star game of 1981, or the Good Friday game between, you guessed it, the Nordiques and the Canadiens... sigh... I don't even care about hockey anymore, but that is kinda sad to see...

Box is big in canada, field is big in the US.

not totally sure why but I do know there are feeder leagues similar to junior hockey in canada and I"m sure part of it is that it's friggin cold outdoors up north too

Box is fun to watch and play but I much prefer field personally.

They don't even have club? I know Mizzou does, and Michigan too.

i dont believe iowa has a club team but there are several colleges in MI that play club ball in the CCLA
