V.89 - Royal Knights FC Season 25 (3rd time's a charm?)

Well, it seems that Skydog has put in some kind of HT dynasty destroyer bug. As not only has my first 2 attmepts for this season been killed, but the Ultra Nox thread is also dead now.

I'm not going to post my roster review or season recap because I don't feel like doing all that work again. I am also always going to create my dynasty reports in FrontPage and then post them here so that way I always have a hard copy.

So without further adieu.....

TRAINING

We trained set pieces for the first time in our history. We had 10 players pop. Most notably was (F) Helar Urvet and (GK) Diego Miera who both popped to solid.

Form Update

Form increase (players) = 5 Form increase (levels) = 5
Form decrease (players) = 2 Form decrease (levels) = 2
Total Form Players (+/-) = 3 Total Form Levels (+/-) = 3

4 starters saw their form go up. (WB) Jarrett Saenz popped to excellent and (GK) Meira popped to solid form. Offseason purchase, (MF) Douglas Santana popped to inadequate form which is great to see.

As for the negatives, (F) Ture Qvist continues to stay in the doghouse as he saw his form drop to poor.

TSI Update

TSI increase (players) = 7 TSI increase (amount) = 680
TSI decrease (players) = 11 TSI decrease (amount) = 1140
Total TSI Players (+/-) = -8 Total TSI Change (+/-) = -460

Not a very good TSI update. (MF) Santana saw the biggest gain with a 340 increase.

(W) Anthony McCrary had the biggest drop in TSI as he went from a "high" passable in form to a "very low" passable in form. This led to a 570 TSI drop.

Midtown Metros - Royal Knights FC

Date: 2/7/2005 at 01.00
MatchID: 36854992
Arena: West Side Stadium
Crowd: 32207

32207 spectators had come to West Side Stadium this cloudy day.

Metros tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Hope - Culpepper, Ångmar, Deloach - Njegos, Bohskär, Stockton, Sapp, Hagin - Caballero, Bassett.

RKFC started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. They fielded: Miera - Saenz, Schenker, Zeigler - Mccrary, Santana, Mattox, Vujanović - Estep, Oconnor, Urvet.

Metros Johnny Bassett gave, after 2 minutes, the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.

Klaus Schenker received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly, probably out of lack of experience, in the 22nd minute and almost caused an opponent to score.

A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 25 minutes might have resulted in another goal for Metros. However, Diego Miera made a spectacular save.

The visiting teams Gordon Mattox could score the 1 - 1 equaliser in the 33rd minute with a header, after some good work on the right.

After 45 minutes RKFCs Helar Urvet made his way through the middle, putting the visitors up 1 - 2.

After the ball got lifted in from the left Tom Oconnor was on his own in the home side´s penalty area 45 minutes into the game, and should have scored, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.

In the 45:th minute RKFCs Mick Zeigler received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.

The Metros player was Alfred Deloach who had to be helped off the pitch, unable to finish the game, but Scott Burris came in to finish the match.

Halftime score was 1 - 2.

Metros, bringing the final ball possession rate to 64 percent, dominated the battle.

Johnny Bassett missed a penalty in the 48:th minute that would have put the teams even.

After 62 minutes of play Claudio Caballero equalised for Metros after an elegant attack from the right.

Metros could have put themselves ahead in the 64:th minute as Johnny Bassett missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right.

Christian Bohskär gave his Metros the lead with 3 - 2, as he successfully challenged both the guests central defenders, then placed the ball unreachably at the goaltenders right post.

Metros held the ball, with a clear 63 percent possession rate.
Metros´s best player was Jonny Hagin. Claudio Caballero was a disappointment, however.

The most dominating RKFC player was without a doubt Anthony Mccrary.
However, Klaus Schenker made a disastrous appearance.

The match ends 3 - 2.

For the second year in a row, we took a 2-1 lead into half-time on the road against the Metros. Last year we lost 6-2, but this year we only lost by 1. I was begging HT to give me one more scoring chance in the 2nd half, but it never came. We are now 1-4 against the Metros. Helar Urvet scored for the 2nd game in a row as he tries to solidify his spot in the starting rotation.

  • (D) Jarrett Seanz equaled his best performance ever for the 4th time. (1/3/05, 1/27/05, 2/3/05)
  • (MF) Gordon Mattox also equaled his best game ever. It marked the 6th time he has accomplished that feat. (11/29/04, 12/6/04, 1/10/05, 1/17/05, 1/24/05)
  • (F) Helar Urvet improved his past best by 2%.
  • (F) Tom O'Connor quietly equaled his best game of his career. (2/3/05)

V.89 Recap

The Dallas Cowboys, the div. IV. demotee, came in and handily beat the best remaining V.89 team from last season. Hmmm. This puts a damper on my prediction that LazyDragons would win V.89 this season.

In other games, Southside demolished Shadowboxers 6-0. This was a tab it surprising because Shadowboxers beat the Gunners twice last season.

The two new promotees battled it out in a game filled with scoring and the Herbinators pulled out the 5-4 victory.

V.89 currently ranks #44 in the Div. V power rankings.

SIMIANS - Royal Knights FC

Date: 2/10/2005 at 01.00
MatchID: 37320278
Arena: Bung Hole Stadium at Florida Field
Crowd: 19896

19896 spectators arrived at Bung Hole Stadium at Florida Field, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.

SIMIANS had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Norman - Cheatham, Veenstra, Kocián - Yee, Klein, Lund Pedersen, Blocker, Key - Nellemann, Gómez.

RKFC had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. They fielded: Miera - Pierce, Saenz, Li - Tharp, Santana, Kerssens, Mattox - Bello, Escamilla, Qvist.

SIMIANS' Jesper Nellemann gave, after 5 minutes, the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.

Allen Tharp was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the enemy box - Rex Escamilla managed to kick one of them into 1 - 1 in the 32nd minute.

The 35:th minute saw the home team take a 2 - 1 lead after a leak in the visitors right side defense. Scorer for SIMIANS was James Yee.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field put SIMIANS lead up with 3 - 1. Truls Lund Pedersen finished that one off competently, firing from an acute angle.

The referee showed RKFCs Ed Pierce the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

The player down was James Yee. The SIMIANS bench looked worried a while but in the end he managed to get up.

Diego Miera was caught napping a bit later as Leo Klein lifted a ball over him after a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keepers arms.

RKFC´s Ed Pierce left the field after 42 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was Mick Zeigler.

Halftime score was 3 - 1.
The fortyfive minutes were dominated by SIMIANS, with an impressive 58 percent possession of the ball.

After 54 minutes Jesper Nellemann put SIMIANS ahead 4 - 1 as he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side.

The structure of the game started to change as SIMIANS decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

RKFC showed some good morale and were, in the 72nd minute, able to reduce the score to 4 - 2 as Douglas Santana got past the home sides full backs straight in front of the goal.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, RKFC´s Christopher Bello got himself booked.

An indirect free kick in the visitor´s penalty area in the 80:th minute could have resulted in another goal, but Diego Miera got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar.

RKFC showed some good morale and were, in the 81st minute, able to reduce the score to 4 - 3 as Rex Escamilla got past the home sides full backs straight in front of the goal.

Stig Li of RKFC received a yellow card in the 81st minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

SIMIANS, bringing the final ball possession rate to 53 percent, dominated the battle.

The most dominating SIMIANS player was without a doubt Leo Klein.
However, Ron Veenstra made a disastrous appearance.

The most dominating RKFC player was without a doubt Gordon Mattox. Ture Qvist on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The match ends 4 - 3.

I'll take most of the blame for this loss. I did not set my team up to give them the best chance to win. When I started my A-squad on Sunday, I wasn't really thinking about a cup match and didn't mix and match my top players. Only 4 starters played in the cup match. Douglas Santana was one of those starters who played in this match and he scored his first goal ever for the Royal Knights. One positive that I can take away from this game was the way we came back at the end. I thought this game was gonna end 5 or 6 to 1 or 2, but we fought back to make it a 1 goal difference. Next year we want to reach Rd. 4 of the Cup. We made it to Rd. 3 last year and could not repeat it this season.

3 teams from V.89 did not survive this cup round. RKFC, Shadowboxers and The Pulchritudinous. I guess the plus side is that I can now fully concentrate on winning the most possible league games.

Next up is our first home game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys.

TRAINING

This was our first week back to our normal training regimen and our first with our new SOLID trainer. The results showed too.

(F) Tom O'Connor popped one week earlier than expected. He is now a formidable scorer.

Tom Oconnor

(W) Anthony McCrary became our first player ever to pop twice without ever having any scoring training.

Anthony Mccrary

Stamina: passable Keeper: disastrous

Form Update

Form increase (players) = 1 Form increase (levels) = 1
Form decrease (players) = 8 Form decrease (levels) = 10
Total Form Players (+/-) = -7 Total Form Levels (+/-) = -9

Ouch! A horrendous form update this week. The only player to gain a level was (MF)
Saša Vujanović, as he moved to passable.

Now the negatives. (GK) Diego Meira, (F) Jose Estep, (WB) Jarrett Saenz, and (CD) Klaus Schenker were the starters who dropped a level. Schenker and Estep both fell to inadequate the other two are still at passable or better. Backups (F) Christopher Bello and (W) Corey Woods both dropped 2 levels in form.

TSI Update

TSI increase (players) = 7 TSI increase (amount) = 920
TSI decrease (players) = 10 TSI decrease (amount) = 640
Total TSI Players (+/-) = -3 Total TSI Change (+/-) = 280

Eh, a decent update in TSI considering how bad the form update was. (MF) Douglas Santana was once again the big gainer for the week (+210). O'Connor's pop in scoring led to a nice +190 and leading scorer (F) Helar Urvet jumped up 150 pts.

(F) Rex Excamilla was the big loser this week (-140).

  • (MF) Saša Vujanović popped an experience level to wretched
  • Construction on The Castle of Champions has been completed. It is now a 40,000 seat arena.

Royal Knights FC - The Dallas Cowboys

Crowd: 14584

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 14584 to The Castle of Champions.

RKFC had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Lineup: Miera - Li, Saenz, Zeigler - Mattox, Vujanović, Santana, Mccrary - Estep, Oconnor, Urvet.

Cowboys had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Philippens - Kalnins, Grambling, Faas - Tint, Goodman, Marcusson, Yngvesson, Morgansson - Niklasson, Gold.

It was obvious that RKFC were using pressing as their primary tactic.

Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Cowboys.

After 13 minutes Cowboys put themselves up by 0 - 1 as Zelimir Grambling finished off a strike from the left with a real cannon placed at the far post.

Douglas Santana pulled a real crowd pleaser as he, in the 27:th minute, wove through the guests whole central defense line and put the 1 - 1 equaliser away.

After a fine move down the middle Tom Oconnor nearly gave the home side one up in the 27:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though.

Cowboys had a good opportunity to score the lead goal but the home team goaltender Diego Miera saved Niklas Niklasson´s shot headed for the top corner.

33 minutes into the game Helari Tint was a hair´s breadth away from giving Cowboys the lead. A prompt block by Diego Miera saved the home team that time.

Halftime score was 1 - 1.
Cowboys held the ball, with a clear 60 percent possession rate.

Fine winger Helari Tint made one of his many passes from the wing into the middle in the 49:th minute. Niklas Niklasson went to the air and hit the ball firmly with his forehead for 1 - 2.

Cowboys´s Niklas Niklasson made it through the home teams defence in the 72nd minute, and had only to place the ball in an unguarded goal when the home side´s defender sprang up from the left, clearing the ball on the line.

The away team´s Genadijs Kalnins took advantage of a mistake to the home side´s right in the 76:th minute increasing Cowboys´s lead to 1 - 3.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Cowboys´s Zelimir Grambling got himself booked.

Cowboys came close to extending their lead as Pontus Morgansson delivered a long range shot from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the shot hit the side of the goal.

Douglas Santana of RKFC received a yellow card in the 88:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

The referee showed Cowboyss Niklas Niklasson the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Cowboys, with an impressive 62 percent possession of the ball.

The most dominating RKFC player was without a doubt Anthony Mccrary. However, Jarrett Saenz made a disastrous appearance.

Cowboys´s best player was Dennis Philippens. Niklas Niklasson on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The match ends 1 - 3.

The Royal Knights took part in the annual puke green socks rally this past weekend. We faced off against the demotee from div. IV for the first time and we kept the game close which is all I can ask. I decided to press and it seemed to work. We were outchanced 7-2 but we were able to stop them 4 times. Our midfield had a solid game as their form increases. (MF) Santana scored our lone goal of the game. It was the 2nd goal for the Knights and his 9th of his career.

  • (MF) Douglas Santana played his best game to date for the Knights. Raising his previous best by 7%.
  • (MF) Gordon Mattox also equaled his best game ever. It marked the 8th time he has accomplished that feat. (11/29/04, 12/6/04, 1/10/05, 1/17/05, 1/24/05, 2/7/05, 2/10/05)
  • (F) Helar Urvet raised the bar for his best match by 6%.
  • (F) Tom O'Connor showed a 1% increase in his best match.
As a team, this ranked as our best game ever. We equaled the performance from our match on 1/3/05 against the Midtown Metros.

As a midfield, this also tied our best game ever. The last time we performed this well was on 11/1/04 against the Metros.

V.89 Recap

Nothing really exciting this week. Southside beat The Pulchritudinous 3-1 on the road. LazyDragons destroyed the other div. VI. promotee, Herbinators, 8-0 at home.

The best game of the week had Midtown visiting Shadowboxers. This game was playing in the soaking rain and it saw the Metros tie it at 3-3 in the 86th minute. Then in the 89th minute, Cory Shearer gave Shadowboxers a 4-3 lead. A minute later he was taken off the field due to an injury suffered on a nasty tackle.

V.89 jumped up to #28 in the Div. V power rankings.

Royal Knights FC - Shadowboxers

Date: 2/21/2005 at 01.00
MatchID: 36855000
Arena: The Castle of Champions
Crowd: 11165

SOLD SEATS

Terraces: 7327
Basic seats: 2722
Seats under roof: 904
VIP seats: 212

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and The Castle of Champions saw a crowd turnout of 11165.

RKFC started off with a 4-3-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Miera - Pierce, Schenker, Saenz, Zeigler - Mccrary, Mattox, Santana - Estep, Oconnor, Urvet.

Shadowboxers had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Persson - Vitzthum, Ramirez, Springer - Sándor, Clevenger, Beccaris, Dukes, Keinänen - Shearer, Schellevis.

RKFC seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.

In the 4:th minute the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending and Tommie Schellevis put the ball away for 0 - 1.

The visitors Árpád Sándor took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and central backs in the 6:th minute. 0 - 2 for Shadowboxers.

After this Shadowboxers lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts.

The visitors George Dukes took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and central backs in the 15:th minute. 0 - 3 for Shadowboxers.

RKFC seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and were down to the solid level of organisation.

In the games 17:th minute Cory Shearer nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through and fired from just outside the box, his shot passed just over the bar.

RKFC appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only passable.

Harris Clevenger came close to extending the visitors lead as he, completely unmarked in front of the goal, lifted a ball over Diego Miera, hitting the bar.

The referee showed RKFCs José Estep the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 3.
Shadowboxers held the ball, with a clear 62 percent possession rate.

During the break RKFC´s coach went through the teams new tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organisation.

Gastón Beccaris came close to extending the visitors lead as he, completely unmarked in front of the goal, lifted a ball over Diego Miera, hitting the bar.

Cory Shearer was, after 71 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors lead with a well placed diving header but home side keeper Diego Miera saved.

In the games 71st minute RKFC´s Douglas Santana fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Douglas Santana for taking a dive.

Cory Shearer increased the visitors lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 4.

Shadowboxers held the ball, with a clear 63 percent possession rate.

RKFC´s best player was Tom Oconnor. Klaus Schenker on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Shadowboxers´s best player was George Dukes. However, Cory Shearer made a disastrous appearance.

The match ends 0 - 4.

Another game, another loss. Last season it we had a fast start and a slow finish. This season we are off to a horid start and I hope that we can turn it around. We were at a 60-40 possession disadvantage but usually we can manage to get a goal or two when it is like that. Sunday, we did not even get a chance meanwhile Shadowboxers had 8. Up next comes a MUST win game against the other pointless team in V.89.

  • (MF) Douglas Santana equaled his best performance ever. (2/14/05)
  • (MF) Gordon Mattox also equaled his best game ever. It marked the 9th time he has accomplished that feat. (11/29/04, 12/6/04, 1/10/05, 1/17/05, 1/24/05, 2/7/05, 2/10/05, 2/14/05)
  • (F) Helar Urvet topped his best game by 7%. NEW STAR HIGH - 3.0
  • (F) Jose Estep raised his top match by 2%.
  • (F) Tom O'Connor also raised his top match by 2%.

The LazyDragons went on the road and took care of the previously undefeated Southside Gunners 3-1. The LazyDragons have now won 3 of the last 4 meetings with the other being a 2-2 tie.

Midtown Metros and The Dallas Cowboys each handed the two VI. promotees a 3-0 loss.

Next week, we play The Pulchritudinous on the road in a must win game for us. The Cowboys match up against Shadowboxers and Metros play the Gunners. Should be an interesting week 4 in V.89.

V.89 is now ranked as the 31st toughest division V. in the USA.

The Pulchritudinous - Royal Knights FC

Date: 2/28/2005 at 01.00
MatchID: 36855003
Arena: The Pulchritudinous Arena
Crowd: 10890

Due to an all-day shower, 10890 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at The Pulchritudinous Arena.

Pulchritudinous started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Lineup: Caron - Means, Newell, Yiu-Mein - Astorga, Padgett, Goodson, Kure Vidkjær, Pappas - Frey, Simon.

RKFC had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. The following players had been chosen: Miera - Saenz, Schenker, Zeigler - Mattox, Vujanović, Santana, Mccrary - Estep, Oconnor, Urvet.

Pulchritudinous' Jimmie Simon gave, after 17 minutes, the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.

Pulchritudinous´s Qiu Yiu-Mein refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon in the 28:th minute.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field put Pulchritudinous lead up with 2 - 0. Stuart Goodson finished that one off competently, firing from an acute angle.

The teams went for a half-time break at 2 - 0.
Pulchritudinous, bringing the final ball possession rate to 55 percent, dominated the battle.

In the 71st minute Pulchritudinous put themselves up 3 - 0. The visitors defenders lost the ball to Samuel Frey coming up from the left, who proceeded to cooly round the goaltender and knock the ball home.

The structure of the game started to change as Pulchritudinous decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

With 72 minutes played Samuel Frey could have brought this one home for Pulchritudinous as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.

Tom Oconnor of RKFC received a yellow card in the 80th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Pulchritudinous, bringing the final ball possession rate to 56 percent, dominated the battle.

Pulchritudinous´s best player was Aaron Caron. Samuel Frey on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The most dominating RKFC player was without a doubt José Estep. However, Klaus Schenker made a disastrous appearance.

The match ends 3 - 0.

Ugh...At this point in the season, I think the HT match engine has it out for me. I had this team covered in so many areas and yet we don't even get a chance on goal and they somehow score 3. We now sit all alone in last place and we are going to need some serious work to get back out of the auto-regulation zone.

  • (MF) Gordon Mattox also equaled his best game ever. It marked the 10th time he has accomplished that feat. (11/29/04, 12/6/04, 1/10/05, 1/17/05, 1/24/05, 2/7/05, 2/10/05, 2/14/05, 2/21/05)
  • (F) Jose Estep raised his top match by 6%.
  • (F) Tom O'Connor raised his best match by 3%.
  • (F) Helar Urvet topped his best game by 4%.
This was our best game as a team ever. It topped our previous best back on January 3rd.

The Cowboys destroyed Shadowboxers 7-0. LazyDragons take care of things at home against Midtown with a 6-2 win.

Herbinators play a spirited game and earn a point against Southside with a 1-1 tie. This hurts us because Herbinators is one of the promotees that I was supposed to finish ahead of.

V.89 is ranked 26th.
