"Jay and Silent Bob strike back" uncut on Comedy Central

I am besides myself as this regular cable channel has decided to air this particular movie completly uncut.

Just how many time can you say "Fuck" on a standard cable channel?

Um... they've had it on many times in the past, as well as the South Park movie uncut, and Chris Rock standup uncut.

And you can say "Fuck" as many times as you want on cable. That's why it's cable.

I guess all those parent groups are right then. I always assumed you could only get r-rated material if you paid extra for it.

I guess we can blame others for smut comming into our homes. Anyone watching this movie right now with kids feel free to sue the living "fuck" out of the cable companies.

you are paying for it, unless I for some reason am paying for cable while others aren't.

you can't sue them, if you don't like it then change the channel.

Anyone who was watching this movie at that time with kids should be getting a visit from DYFS. What the fuck is wrong with people who blame the cable companies for DOING WHAT IS PERFECTLY ALLOWABLE??????

It's amazing how much this can piss me off.

Logan, I gotta agree with your sentiment. Turn the fricking channel. Censor what your kids watch. Its up to the damn parent to make sure kids do not watch some thing, not the cable station. Kids should be in bed by 1 am anyway.

if its a basic cable station, then some people arent necessarily paying for it (ie- it may come free with their apartment rent), so i can see how some complaints may come in

I wonder if the west coast programming is the same as the east coast? I know a lot of channels do that, but I don't know if Comedy Central is one of those.

I believe in most cases the west coast sees shows at the same time as us east coasters...ie if we see it at 9, they see it at their 9.

They've been showing South Park: BLU unedited for at least 3 years at midnight without much fanfair, so why would it start now. Hell, that's a whole movie about swearing and censorship.

None of y'all ever stayed up late into the night on the weekend back when you were kids?

Of course, I have no problems at all with them showing the movie uncut and unedited. But I think it's ridiculous that some of you think that kids staying up late on a Friday night is bad parenting...

Turn the channel...like that asshole suing Fear Factor because watching something made him sick. Are these people living under a rock? Comedy Central has been airing "dirty movies that use curses" *gasp* for a few months now.

I don't think anyone's saying that. I think what people are saying is:

Letting kids stay up late + not being aware of what they're doing/watching + getting all bothered because they watched Jay & Bob, or Showtime Soft Porn or whatever = bad ("clueless" variety) parenting.

They have been doing the secret stash for at least a year or so. This is at least the 2nd or 3rd time that J&SB:SB has been on that i know of. They show the South Park movie and a Chris rock special all the time.

I'm not complaining about that.. don't get me wrong.. and the # of times they show it is illrelevant.. cause the first time some uppity activist type sees it on tv will be the start of a firestorm

Complaining is a suitable reaction to something like this. Lawsuits or government action are not.

Like it or not, the reason why there is government oversight of network television is not because we just think it's good to have the government tell them what they can and cannot do in terms of moral standards -- but because they are using the public airwaves as part of their broadcast. Cable companies do not. They deliver service to subscribers. It's different. (cf. Howard Stern and satellite radio)

Now, I happen to think that this sort of thing may boost momentum for a la carte cable channel selection. To me, that's another suitable outcome. And to the extent cable companies want exclusive franchise territorial rights granted to them by governments... maybe there's appropriate public leverage available to see this happen. (I'm not really a fan from my own personal interest)

Cable COmpanies, by law, are required to block out any channel from your service that you ask, and it's cost free. Any parent concerned about their child seeing late night Comedy Central can simply block the channel while still getting the rest of the cable package. My dad blocked MTV, not that I ever wanted to watch it anyway.

Complaining is fine in my eyes. If you don't want to see people say "fuck" after 11 pm or whatever, please speak your mind. I completely applaud both your ability to and actually deliverance of any complaints. And yes, I think it is very refreshing to see how YOU see a distinction between complaing and threatening a lawsuit. Good for you. If you want to get the laws changed, and can rally enough people who feel the same way, I have no problem with it. But I do have a problem with some overly-sensitive parent decided what I want.

I didn't know that. All the more reason for this to be dismissed as a non-issue in terms of lawsuits or additional government intervention.

Good, cause I do believe that's where this all ends up. Most likely between 1.5 and 2.5 years from now.

Forget the kids ... my wife and I couldn't even watch that movie for more than ten minutes. I don't mind the occasional swearing, and do it plenty myself, but that movie (at least he part I saw) was just a waste.

My Lord... it isn't like this just happened. The Secret Stash has been on for AT LEAST a year. Mostly the South Park movie (which I love, btw). There hasn't been any public outcry about it and frankly, I don't see it happening now. If it was going to be protested, they'd have done it when Comedy Central started the Secret Stash.

And nothing will. What are they going to do? Protest Comedy Central? So what! This is the network that shows South Park and Drawn Together and the Dave Chappelle show! You think they'll care if a few more numnuts protest?

Not to mention having at least 3 songs just focusing on swearing ("Uncle Fucker", "Kyle's Mom's a Bitch", and "It's Easy, MMMKay"). After watching that movie, the songs get stuck in my head for a couple of days and I have to watch what I say
