Multiple Chat: Trillian 3, Gaim, or other?
I'm about to put together a new computer and I'm trying to line up software to run on it. In this instance, multiple chat clients.
I really liked Trillian 2 to the point where I purchased Pro which is really rare for me on something where I can get a similar client for free. However, 2.0 had some shortcomings and people have been waiting with baited breath for 2 years for a new version. But now everything I've read about 3 is that it's slow and buggy and not worth bothering with until 3.1 comes out. I'll be running this on a Windows box (at least partially) so Linux only apps need not apply but Gaim crosses platforms and, from using it at school, looks quite nice. I'm curious if anyone has used both or something completely different like Miranda. SI

I've been running Trillian for about a year and a half now, and I love it. Just updated to 3.0 over the weekend and really haven't ran into any problems apart from it taking quite a while to start up.
I've been getting a kick out of the Wikipedia stuff built into it, where it links to info on certain words in the text so you can get definitions and all sorts of info on. I didn't like Gaim personally, but that was a while back and because it had horrible problems with Yahoo messenger, sure that's been resolved now. Don't see a reason to change though. Happy with Trillian 3.0 so far. |

I used the original Trillian, but disliked the interface. I started using Miranda IM which has been good. I may give Trillian 3.0 another shot on my next install, but I'm currently using Miranda IM.

I had mostly used MSN/Windows Messenger before finally making the switch to Trillian, and also didn't care for the interface. I quickly found a skin that looked exactly like MSN Messenger and have never looked back.
Bunches of them out there, bound to find one that clicks for ya. |

I haven't had any issues with Trillian 3, either. And slow? I don't understand that, but maybe.

Heh yeah, I've got tons of enjoyment out of that feature alone..links to some weird useless info, but good topics of conversation. Was just talking about Hearts of Iron 2 with a friend on there, and it linked me to a detailed description of the game, and let me know that it was banned in China because it showed Tibet, Sinkiang, and Manchuko as countries. Makes even boring conversations fun! |
