Has anyone read any of his books? I read Guns, Germs and Steel and found it to be fascinating. I saw yesterday that he has a new one out.

yeah. there was some discussion of this in one of the book threads. I've read Guns Germs and Steel too, and apparently my friend got me "Collapse" and it's in the mail on its way to me. Can't wait. Really enjoyed what he had to say, and while he's not "perfect" or some groundbreaking visionary, the way he synthathizes (sp) things makes them very accessible.

I read G,G&S and thought it was excellent. I am looking forward to his new book as well. There is a hint of its tone in an op-ed piece he wrote for The New York Times around Jan. 1st. if you're interested.
He's one of my favorite authors. I've read his a lot of his previous works, too. They deal more with evolution than the history of civilizations, though. But I recommend his book, "Why is sex fun?" to anyone who enjoys reading about Biology. |
