I'm tired of this s&*t

I know the new abortion thread is gone now, so I'm posting my frustration here. I've been called many things during my time at FOFC and I usually do my best to be civil and rational. Occasionally, I slip, but I usually don't say much that's too bad.

Lately, though, I'm just too pissed to deal with this s&*t. Last week, Dutch says I cheered as people I knew died in 9/11. When I call him on it, he pretty much tells me to screw off. Now, Slapbone accuses me of loving it when babies are killed. Subby calls him on it, but there was no reply.

I'm just tired of it. Call me many things and otherwise treat me like an ass, but I've done way too much in my life to help fellow humans, fight for what is right, and otherwise tried to improve society. For people to tell me that I wanted to watch people to die in the WTC and like it when babies die is just sickening. And then to not even have the balls/decency to apologize when called on it is just pathetic. So, I'm tired of it and I'm out.

I had a reply and it was an apology.

My sincerest apologies, it was unprovoked (at least to that level).

Case closed.

Edit: Just to say that as I was preparing my post the thread was deleted. I think we can all agree that it needed to be.

You always contribute intelligent discourse. I hope you'll be back.

Don't let the village idiots drive you out of the village. There are plenty of non-idiots here who also find those kinds of attacks irresponsible and assinine.

And I for one would miss your contributions to this board, which are amongst the most lucid, constructive, and thoughtful this board has to offer. But you must do what you think is best, of course.

For whatever my two cents is worth here, two things. (which I know you know both, but you are pissed and not thinking like you should) One, I wouldn't leave because of a few idiots. Two, stay away from the political threads. I used to get sucked in to those a lot and started to realize that they always come down to name calling and nobody ever agrees on anything.

By the way, I have also actually started to realize that I have a lot of common interests and opinions as JoninmiddleGA outside of the political threads. When he is not out nuking the middle East he is actually a personable guy.

John, I disagree with you all the time, and I try not to make it personal, so I hope I haven't contributed to your disdain with the board.

Anyhow, I'd hate to see you leave. So, I hope you'll reconsider.

"............I've done way too much in my life to try in my own way to help fellow humans, fight for what I think is right, and otherwise tried to improve society according to my beliefs.

I would have had no problem most of the time. The problem with liberals (and conservatives) is your original statement. It leaves NO room for argument. That's fine in my opinion, but you can't expect others to simply take another person's beliefs in the ass without complaint.

(I'm not saying unfounded personal insults are ok, of course)

This is like, what, the third time JG has pulled off this s&*t? He then comes back saying he will only engage in intelligent, civil debates. That's grandstanding, imo. Maybe someone as smart as he should learn about the Ignore feature or have more self-control? I have been on both sides of being pissed off and pissing others off. I am learning this lesson at IHOF for one has to understand the nature of the beast (open, anonymous internet forums). It comes with the territory.

Nobody has the right to take it to that level. I disagree passionately with a lot of what John has to say, but I don't believe taking it to that level is necessary.

There have been a few times I've came close to saying good bye as well. Personal attacks are most often the tool of people who don't have the intellect to battle someone on even terms.

Do what you have to do John. If you have to get the hell out of here for awhile, I find it understandable.

Take care.

i've tended to stay away from the political threads lately.. and i haven't even touched the gun control debates that pop up periodically. And I've found this is still a fun place to visit.

I've also realized that if someone accused me of something as outrageous as cheering on my dying friends, that I'd probably roll my eyes and keep on giving my opinion. Sticks and stones...

Same here. But what do I know, I'm just a partisan hack.

Well at least that's what JG called me. So much for name calling.

I didn't see the comments in the Abortion thread, and it does piss me off a little that it would be deleted. I would also say that I do not agree with JG's assessment of what Dutch said in the thread where JG decided to break out the "ignore" stick. JG has been known to internalize and overreact to statements, as well as doing his fair share of grandstanding here about. I'd guess we're seeing a little bit of that here tonight.

I like John, I think he is a very bright individual. I don't often agree with what he says, and the more I think about him and his postings I really think he is just an opinionated blowhard like the rest of us. He is just a bit more passionate than most. My issue with JG is that he knows he's smart, and he elevates himself above the unwashed masses <---That would be most of us that aren't regularly compared to a computer.

That said I like seeing him around here, and hope to do so again soon.

I appreciate you taking the time to post that Glengoyne. This has blind-sided me a bit as JG and I had our political discussion 3 weeks ago.

Look, I admit I am a right-wing conservative (I still say I'm a moderate though). John Galt is a left-wing liberal. It should come as no surprise to anyone that we are going to disagree (alot).

I don't hate John Galt. I don't hate anybody on this board. I sincerely mean that.

For what it's worth, I never said the dude "cheered" for 9/11 or dying friends. That's a gross exaggeration by my estimation.

In fairness, here is the post in question.

Please don't pull out the old "it's just the internet" rag. When you invest your time, energy, emotions, and other elements of your "self" into anything, you're tied into it to some degree.
