News and Notes:
Brandon Samuels, a quarterback, has been made academically ineligible for the upcoming season for failing a class. (This really sucks as he was the successor to Lachance. ) O.J. Hernandez of Oklahoma has been named Coach of the Year for his performance this past season. Marcus Ellard has retired from his position of syndicate coordinator. As I look to replace our Syndicate Coordinator, I would like for both of you to go over the preliminary roster and give me some feedback on - redshirting - starters - backups - and anything else you care to share.
I really don't know why I only received a 4/100 on recruiting when most of these recruits have great potential. I guess "potential" is the key word here. Todd |

I'd give Payne the shot at QB. He's a little younger, but nearly the same as the senior. He has some room to grow. We're fortunate in that Jennings returns, but the rest of the offense seems to stack up pretty well. I probably wouldn't suggest any other changes other than what your scouts (cpu) would recommend.

Preliminary 2005 Roster
Defensive Breakdown Led by Senior Captains Harvey Daehnke and Kenny Richardson These two were selected for their play last year as well as expected play. Baxter outplayed Daehnke last year, but i expect more this year from Daehnke. Richardson led the team in sacks, and should be a force for us this year. I like having two seniors this year, and hope it continues. But this honor is awared soley on prior and expected production. No brand new starters will get this, ever...and ill also say no underslassmen, meaning only Junior and up. Usually it will be seniors, but i wont handcuff myself right now. This will be a yearly tradition for my defense. And now for the breakdown!! Code:
We should start Copeland at P...no question...and Pierce should get cut to save schollies. Torelli at K, and cut wynn since hes in his final year. Wheeler and Dennis red-shirt. Code:
I thought anderson and richardson were graduating, but i was wrong! Having these two back is great, and rose will still help of the bench. Stone and Del Greco are our future here, and hopefully they can get some time during some routs. Sawyer is a walkon and doesnt need to be cut. We need two recruits, plain and simple....we have to have tem or else we are dead next year. Code:
Again i thought we had lost both our starters, but i just figured out how they coded the seniors with another year(SRY!). They should both be solid starters, and this line went from me expecting it to be a major concern to a major strength. For reference, our best defender for the entire team last year was a 55 overall. Two of our first 4 starters are better then that, and one is damn close...we are a much better team up front, and i hope overall. Timberlane should red-shirt this year, and let logan and johnson carry out their back-up duties like last year. One more DT is required this year, but two would be nice. Code:
I hate to say it, but this is improved from last year. Wally went from our best to 2nd best behind his brother...OUCH! Rueben played great in the whole 2-3 games he wasnt injured, so i expect a lot if he can manage to stay healthy. Wally proved to be capable last year, so i think the brothers can manage here. Pearson is the only choice for the future, so we one guy this year, with another one or two next year...if you see studs this year grab them, but not a priority over DE and other need spots. Code:
Horton and Ford will start, and should do decently. Losing banks's leadership and Myers' production will be hard, but i think this group can still play well behind our stellar line and strong secondary. If our 3 starters at LB play average, we will be monsters on defense this year. Downs and Shull nedd the red-shirts, cand let holmes and sinclair back them up. We dont need any recruits here right now, so i revert back to the stud rule. Code:
What to say here...these guys let me down last year, as they had the talent to do more...Stephenson an Hopkins will start, with moss and collins behind them. Sheckton was injured and suspended last year so i dont know him well, while martinez actually grabed a few INTs from way down there on the bench. Were deep here, but i need more out of our top two. We lose two here this year, and one next...I could use two here, but i could survive on one. We could red-shirt Sheckton this year and be fine, as well as offer a schollie if he gets unhappy. Right now he looks like he will be starting in a season or two. Code:
Diaz and Stinemetz, obviously our starters, both have two years left. They are more talented then our duo last year who did well. Turnage got a sack last year somehow, abnd he will keep playing back-up this year. Patterson, a converted CB, will be the primary back-up. Id redshirt both Glover and Wheeler, as them playing wont be an advantage over turnage in my mind. Id Recruit 0 here, but we will need 1-2 here enxt year. Stud Rule! I think we will be a super defensive unit if our LBs can mold into a solid group. We are much better on the line and in the secondary, while realistically the only place we got worse was one OLB spot where Banks played. Ill take a 10-1 position improvement any year. Just in case you missed em in there(redshirts) Code:
Your call on Danner, but i dont think we really need him this year. Everybody else doesnt expect much playing time, so i see no other question marks. Danner is the 2nd back-up, so were betting both the Battles stay healthy and Pearson can handle the 3rd spot in an emergency(which I think he could use the playing time with his potential, but your call again). Overall im stoked..i dont think we will be this good on D again for at least a couple seasons. We are ready to carry the offense to a Big 12 North title, so lets get underway and start kicking some ass!!!

Very well done. I have a clear picture on how this defense is going to work this year and I'm excited as well. I need Ardent to work some magic on the offensive side, but if the old addage, "defense wins divisions" holds true, who knows what this year will hold for us. I don't care what the media says about my recruiting, I think we did fine last year. The bad thing is after looking over this roster in tcyhelper, this is the biggest graduating year coming up. I'm going to have to make alot of decisions as we keep 2006 in the back of our minds. Thanks, I'll get started tonight!! Todd |

We're losing 22 players at the end of the end of the year and can only have a max of 16 recruits. I'll need to prioritize.
Here's the breakdown of who we're losing: [QB][FB][TE][WR][3G][T][P][K][3DE][2DT][2ILB][2CB][RB][TE][S] Considering our redshirts, our big priorities are: [3G][T][2DE][DT][ILB][CB] Thoughts?? Todd |

We can go with one DE if you are red-shirting Rose(nice find, i didnt catch it!). We can hold off on the ILB as well....Id say recruit his guys then look to defense...Most of our spots besides the D-line are fine with guys coming back. Get him his guys then see how many schollies you have left. Based on a small glance(weird, i know every single guy on defense by name, pos, and talent....yet i can only name maybe 2-3 offense guys that didnt graduate...and thats just the new recruits...odd) Tough Schedule, but if we win it will be huge. I just hope it doesnt kill us before we even get into the Big 12 since we get both Texas AND Ohklahoma...we got thew worst draw ever for that....no baylor this year. Army will be an easy win, but i was really hoping to ride some weak-game wins to a better overall record for recruits to look at. Hopefull our Offense can keep up with my boys, as ill make sure that we are always in the games.(except ohklahoma...i fear that one might get out of hand...maybe texas too...we just dont match up yet)

Sorry about the Texas Christian game, I didn't do enough research to see that they are rated #40. I thought they were a cupcake team, but they went (9-3) last year and made it to the Holiday Bowl, which they lost to West Virginia 42-3. I also wanted to mention our prestige went from [75] to [77] this year! Todd Last edited by MizzouRah : 01-07-2005 at 11:07 AM. |

Now, let's remember that Army was (3-8) last year and came into this year ranked #104.
Regardless, I'm one happy coach right about now. You know that feeling when a game makes you smile from ear to ear? If you could only see me now. We came out for the season opener pumped and ready to play football. I'm pleased with this team in every aspect in Week 1 (ok, we need to tone down penalties!). Heck, just take a look at Army's drive chart to see how this Missouri defense did today. Great idea on going with Payne at QB AE! ..and Blade, what can I say? This defense loves you. We also have a kicker and punter now!! Oh one more thing before I get your thoughts, NO INJURIES!! Todd Last edited by MizzouRah : 01-07-2005 at 12:08 PM. |

Down 17-0 at halftime and I thought, "I guess that last game was a fluke". I sat there in the visitors dressing room silent and nobody said a word. I looked around the room and gave each player a look that burned right through their jerseys and into their chests.
The team responded as they came out in the second half and remembered how to play football. TCU is a good team and we came back and beat them in Texas. Todd |

Alright...not going too in-depth...this will be more observations, though you never know once i get into a flow what i can do...
Army Game: Its Army at home, so i didnt exactly expect a challenge. I did expect at least a couple points, so im really happy! 39 rushing and 37 passing is amazing, regardless of the opponent. 4 sacks from all over our linel, 3 picks from our secondary(both new starters this year) including diaz's two with one for a TD. Martinez continues to amaze me with his performances...if we had anothr cake-walk game i might have asked to see him start one. Rueben didnt injure himself, so im happy with him. I think our 2 new safetys announced they would be a force, with diaz being our best pass defender and stinemetz controlling the run with the highest total tackles. Great warmup. TCU: What to say....i actually think was a great defensive game. We held them( a heavy rushing team) to 2.6 YPC for only 120 yds....not bad at all, as they kind of YPC will help us win the North. They passed for under 200, so i call this win a success depite it being close. We didnt the the turnovers, but we shut them down pretty well. Ford stepped up and played well, so hopefully he can keep it up. Rueben had a great day as well. 2 sacks and no INTs doesnt do it for me. We need more against Michigan State, or else it could get ugly.

FIVE int's?!?! Unacceptable!! Payne just might sit the bench next game.
We were up 10-0 at halftime, our defense was playing stellar, but Michigan State came out in the second half, scored a TD, and the crowd of 61,000 was back in the game. Our offense lost control and the game got ugly, quickly. I really wanted this game as next week is an off week for us. The #1 team in the nation, Oklahoma, comes to Columbia Week 5. We have ALOT of work to do in practice this week. Todd |

Well, I guess we'll see where we're at as the 2004 National Champion #1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners come to Columbia.
It's kind of awe inspiring watching them strut their stuff as they come out onto the field. You can't help but to notice this team. Our team seems a tad bit uptight, but once the game gets going I hope they settle down. I told Willig on Friday he's my starter and I hope Payne takes notice. Todd |

Our second loss in a row and I'm exhausted. I gave the team my assessment of the game and told them to go get some rest as next week we have a bye and need to get back on the field to prepare for Kansas State.
Jennings ran the ball well and I wonder why we didn't slow the game down some after halftime. We can't get going in the second halves of games and that concerns me. I need to call Ardent about this offense. Todd |

Not too great anywhere...our LBs are playing well, but all of a sudden our stellar line cant get a pass rush together. Diaz forced and recovered a fumble from his S spot, so so far he has been our best defender due to his countless turnovers. I think our S have really been the best part so far, as Diaz has dominated the pass and Stinemetz is consitently in the top 2-3 of the team in tackles. Im not really sure what to take from this....maybe just to schedule some light OOC games till we get tougher overall. I think those 5 INTs killed us, as we prob. would have won without those....live and learn i guess. Oklahoma: They scored more last year...so maybe we did better....No Sacks....No INTs....No fumbles won(we knocked one loose, but they picked it up)....just pathetic....Now i would like to recognize our starting OLB Marshall Ford for the best defensive performance yet during this dynasty. 19 tackles is crazy, good job marshall....Our Safeties dont show up for the first time and we lose....maybe that could be our key...who knows....Willig didnt give away 5 picks to a better team, so id say stay with him. Jennings averaged 9.2 YPC, so i think if possible we should give him the ball as often as possible....he could carry this offense with those stats...K-State will be tough, as will Texas and Nebraska later...otherwise we can sweep out...But right now we could lose 5, which is unnaceptable....we are too talented for 5 losses.

Are we still at a clean bill of health? Last year we got hit early and often, so it would be nice if we are all healthy. Got any guys in your sights yet for recruits? You really did much better then it rated you last year if some of these guys develop, so hopefully you can pull of similar things this year. All i could reccomend is maybe more in-state recruiting if the talent is there, as we only got 3 last year. Is MO that bad? But dont change if the guys are talented and interested, it just seems like a lot of across the country guys.
Also, did any guys place all-big 12 in performance or academic, as i didnt see it listed last year. I know thats a lot of questions, so im sorry for loading you up!

No injuries as we approach the Kansas State game.
I have plenty of guys in my sights, but it's still very early to tell. I always look at Missouri and Illinios, but not much from there right now. I'm also trying to find better ways to recruit. I'm on the hardest level so alot of the early weeks is calling players to see who's interested. Sorry, forgot to post the Big 12 awards.. they will follow. Glad you're keeping me alert!! K-State game soon as well, I have the game loaded at work and transfer the files via CD-RW. Note: Kansas State is (17-1) in the last two years. Their only loss was to Oklahoma last year.
