National Title Game: 1.USC vs. 2.Oklahoma
So yeah today is the day... for those who don't know myself and the gangbang have a little bet going on. So this game has me more into it then I would normally be... Anyway I just wanted to know what are the thoughts of everyone out there on this game. Me personally I feel like this is going to be a great game and maybe even top Miami-Ohio State... After having a chance today to look at some stats and what not. I am going to have to say if I was betting OU by 10. But I am not so I will go with USC by 2 points.

Today OU proves no team in the Pac-10 deserves to go to the BCS.

I think this game has the potential to be a ulimate classic. The talent level is in this game alone amazing, has their been this much talent in one game? I clearly think now that these two teams are the BEST teams in the country after seeing Auburn's performance and looking at the team's season last night.

My opinion: the game comes down to pass rush.
USC's offensive line is young but stout. However, I don't think they've faced a pass rush like Oklahoma's, and from what I've seen, Leinart can be rattled if he gets hit a few times (although it has rarely happened). Bush is going to make some moves and pick up some yards. It's unavoidable, and I think USC will score. But if OU gets consistent pressure on Leinart, they have a major edge. On the other side, OU's O-line has only given up seven sacks all year. But Michigan's line had only given up twelve all year last year, and USC racked up like nine against them in the Rose Bowl. We all know that if Jason White gets knocked down a lot, it throws his game off, and although I think he's a better scrambler than a year ago and not injured, he'll make mistakes if he's under pressure. Adrian Peterson will get yards, and he'll score. It's unavoidable as well. So, for me it comes down to pass rush. In the end, I think OU's O-line holds up a little better than USC's, and OU is able to stretch the field a bit more. I think USC may concentrate too heavily on Peterson, giving White more opportunities than Leinart has on the other side. My prediction (and I may have made other ones about this game completely different than this one, but who cares): OU 31, USC 27 |

I think we see OU play mostly with 5 DB's on defense, with an extra safety moved up to a pseudo-LB position to shadow Reggie Bush and provide run support.

The greatest assemblage of talent ever for a National Championship game. Two Heisman Trophy winners, four out of five Heisman Finalists, and 12 first team All-Americans.

My general rule to root against anything from Oklahoma leads me to support USC- but I think it could well be a toss up.

Because I said so, that's why. Any undefeated team whose closest game was by 2 tds and won their games by an average score of 45-19 deserves it. I really believe that Utah could beat any other college team on a neutral field. Their absolute destruction of Pitt should leave no question about their ability to beat anyone. |

Oh, I agree they deserve a shot. But I think USC and Oklahoma would clean them up nicely. Outside of a decent, but not good, Pittsburgh and Texas A&M team, who did they play? |

I have been so back and forth between this game for the past few weeks that only last night did I finally go ahead and put a little money into OU. I really hope this game ends up being the classic that everyone out there has made it out to being.

I'm not worried about who did or didn't they play. Whoever it was, week after week, they destroyed them. Texas A&M Pittsburgh North Carolina Wyoming New Mexico were all Bowl teams. I won't say it's the toughest schedule of all-time. It's a typical schedule of a mid-major team. They won those those games over Bowl teams by an average of over 3 touchdowns. The real shame of college football is that we'll never know, will we? |

Walker's situation is very interesting. Early in the season, OU's defense was playing well, especially when they shut out Texas (the first time in 35 years that the Longhorns had been shut out). However, in that win, OU's shutdown cornerback, Antonio Perkins, went out with a knee injury that forced him to miss several games. A lot of people who haven't closely followed Oklahoma point to their defensive lapses against Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. Perkins didn't play in those games, and the other corner, Eric Bassey, was getting torched on a regular basis. Stoops finally had enough and yanked the redshirt off of Walker, and the Sooners have only given up one defensive touchdown since then. Perkins is back to full strength now, and he and Walker are a solid duo. |

I think this game will be a great one. It'll be close all the way through and I don't know who will come up with the win in the end, but I'll be enjoying it greatly!

You know, it's kind of funny, but in all of the BCS bashing, one thing that's being overlooked is that the BCS is the only reason that Utah made it to the Fiesta Bowl. Without the BCS, they would have been playing in the Liberty Bowl. |

For whatever reason, I'm not the least bit interested in this game. After Saturday, my attention turned to the NFL and I even forgot last night's snooze-fest was on. I'll watch tonight because there's nothing else on, but I don't care who wins. If I had to pick, I'd take OU just because I still haven't found the respect I lost for Pete Carroll after he flashed that choke sign years ago in the NFL.

Do people really watch reruns of old games? I mean, not just games you might run across on ESPN Classic, but people really tape and watch games, in their entirety, over and over? That just baffles me. I can't even stand to watch a game from earlier in the afternoon on tape delay if I missed it that afternoon. There's something about watching non-live sporting events that bores the hell out of me, unless there's some sort of milestone or freakish occurence that happens during the game (which is the only time I've ever watched more than an hour of a game on ESPN Classic).
Running across a classic game from a decade ago is one thing (I must admit that I enjoyed stumbling across the 4th quarter of the Choke at Doak a month or so ago); having it on tape and watching it over and over is completely bizarre to me...it's like when my wife will pull out our wedding video every 6 months or so and watch it. Looks just like it did when we LIVED IT, LADY! Different strokes, I guess...

I'm exactly like you Ksyrup... I can't watch a game if I know the result, except if I stumble across it and something extrodinary happens.

I don't usually watch games that aren't live, with the exception being when a team has an interesting offensive or defensive scheme. I'll then spend hours going over what they are doing to try to figure it out. I'd love to get my hands on a tape of some of Utah's games from this season.

I only do this for teams that I root for in national title/championship type games. I saved last year's USC game. I'll also save any Eagle's games should they make it to the Super Bowl. I think it might be an interesting bonding experience with my future kids. Otherwise, I generally can't stand rewatching old games.

The only thing I hate about re=runs on ESPN Classic is that they skip through alot of the game and you end up not missing alot of gametime.

USC seems to be able to contain the run, but they can't stop the pass. I hope USC's defense doesn't wear down with the time poession.
Just curious, why did Clayton throw the ball in bounds (I know he was out, but it looks like he threw it on purpose to keep it alive) on that one pass? |
