IWS #94 results, redux
I’m With Stupid – REVEALED!
The results from game #94 are in… and without further ado, here we go. 1. George W. Bush was recently named Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year.” Other than him, who do you think might have been deserving of this recognition? 9 John Kerry 3 Donald Rumsfeld 2 Karl Rove 2 Tony Blair 2 Michael Moore Lance Armstrong Burt Ratan the US Soldier Jon Stewart Ken Jennings Paris Hilton The Red Sox Curt Schilling Pat Tillman Saddam Hussein Well, I intended for this to be a total stumper – I didn’t even know what I would have answered myself (which I take as a great sign). I didn’t think about the possibility of Kerry here – I guess there are two different rationale to support that answer. One is that by “deserving” you were thinking “well, he deserved to win the election, so he’d have been POTY” – the other is just that while the mention of Bush got you thinking of the election, you couldn’t find another answer good enough to get you off that topic. Tough to know what Stupid was thinking here. 2. What was your favorite movie of this year? 8 Spiderman 2 8 Shrek 2 5 The Incredibles 2 Fahrenheit 9/11 2 The Passion of the Christ LOTR: ROTK The Terminal Friday Night Lights Though we’d get a few different ones near the top here… the resulting mix is about what I expected. 3. Whose music (group or individual) from this year was your favorite? 9 U2 5 Green Day 3 Usher Linkin Park eminem Franz Ferdinand Bowling for Soup Norah Jones Coldplay Kenny Chesney Shania Twain OutKast The Killers Kanye West But for that insipid iPod commercial, and some unctuously phony Spanish, I think we’d have had a wide open category here. Not an eliminator, at least. 4. What television show did you enjoy most in 2004? 5 CSI 5 The Wire 5 Lost 4 Survivor 2 24 Arrested Development Nip/Tuck MNF Desperate Housewives The OC Sopranos Superbowl I love a tight race, but this is silly. I’m guessing that the FOF threads about Lost and The Wire played a role in their success here… and CSI is constantly just trumpeted as the most-watched show on TV. Fair spread here. 5. Who was the most overexposed person in 2004? 17 Paris Hilton 4 Scott Peterson 2 George W Bush Michael Moore Britney Spears Kobe Bryant Okay, our first eliminator. I really thought there would be several good answers to this – but perhaps the male dynamic interpreted “overexposed” a bit more literally than I had intended, making Paris a runaway winner. 6. What was the least surprising news headline of 2004? 13 Bush wins 3 Steroids in baseball 3 Peterson guilty 3 No WMD in Iraq NHL cancels season Powell resigns Red Sox win Iraq casualties Kobe acquitted campaign turns ugly Well, another runaway – possibly poisoned by the Bush reference in the earlier question. Mrs. Q wanted to offer multiple choices for this – and maybe that would have been a good idea. (I resisted, on the grounds that Stupid seemingly tends to just pick the first option listed when offered a list) - - - So, with that – let’s see who took down the big prize, shall we? First, the “field” Code:
And now, to our top scorers… first, our two runners-up, who posted similar scores to take the lesser medals: Code:
But our grand champion, who absolutely blew the field out of the water, we not even an American! Well, kinda… Maple Leafs 572,832 And with a mighty 80% score of the possible points, Maple Leafs secures another IWS championship, an takes the reins for the next edition. Congratulations to Maple Leafs and the other participants! |

See, Quik, I knew it would be Spiderman 2!
I won't do well on the music questions. ESPN Radio doesn't play much music. |

Thanks for the bump... I'd missed this completely the first time around.
(Which made it fun to read through the results two weeks later, seeing as I couldn't remember what I had answered, or even if I'd entered.) I'll come up with something this week.
