Vae Victus - Rome Must Fall
They call us barbarians. We call them enemies. Rome is an arrogant, decadent tribe, who foolishly think they can turn us from our Gods with their promises of riches and power.
Let the Romans come. If we want their trinkets, we will take them from their corpses, and plant their heads upon spears. Our Gods will protect us. The men of Briton bow to no man, and all men will be made to bow to us. We pray for time of peace, but as long as Rome stands, there will be only death. I am Barrivendos, King of Briton, known to the Romans as Coffee Warlord, and this world shall be delivered on a plate to my sons. At the onset of our rule, we own Britannia, and a province on the mainland, called Samarobriva. Obviously, step one in our conquest of the Romans will be to secure financial stability. Wars are won not only in the will, but in the coinpurse. With that in mind, I order our 4 provinces to construct a system of roads. A few weak military units are called up, but that almost depletes our starting funds. Obviously, we must expand. Our lone diplomat is sent to Gaul to attempt to secure a trade agreement, while our armies prepare to march. Target one is our neighbor to the west, the lands of Eire. They will be offered to join our crusade against Rome. Should they refuse, they shall die. Plans are made to begin the invasion of Germania. While our brothers on the mainland are indeed strong, they are simply in our way. The Gods of Briton must rule over Germania, not the Germanics! By the Gods, we need money. Badly. Allow me to pay tribute to Chief Rum for getting me off my ass with his dynasty to start one alongside his. He wishes to rule Rome, I wish to crush it under my boot! |

It is apparent now our Gods are strongest. Woe to all those who oppose us.
We spend our money as fast as it comes in in the first years of our struggles. But all seems well, in this beginning. Armed with a handful of men, King Barrivendos has secured Eire, enslaving the populous after a prolonged siege. Our inroads into Germania have gone with little opposition, as 3 provinces have fallen to our advance. In his wisdom, our King has decided to leave little garrisons in our conquered provinces, shipping the enslaved people back to Briton, and hoping to keep Germania off balance. Thus far, it has worked. Our financial situation is still weak, but trade agreements secured with the Gauls and the Spaniards have aided us. With that increased income, and with the fresh Germanic slaves, our homelands have built well. To aid in our struggle against Germania, we have commissioned several units of Head Throwers, units that throw lime-coated heads of enemies (mostly Irish holdouts, at this point) at our enemies. Our King is eager to see the looks on the faces of our enemies as we go into battle throwing severed heads at them. So far, so good. I've gotten off to a good start, so it looks like I have something to work with here. Now that the initial land grab is out of the way, and I have a game that looks table, we'll be accepting FOFC'rs to lead the armies of Briton into Rome itself! |

Barrivendos, Protector of Brittania, King of the Britons, Chosen One of the Gods
Known to the Romans as Coffeius Warlordium, this aging king leads from the front, and is known as one cunning general, even more potent than any of his sons. Loved by his soldiers, a noble who loves a drink with his troops, he has set the tone for future generations. He may not live to see Rome crushed, but his sons and grandsons will indeed Conquer in His Name. General Belanus of Hoopsguyvia, Son of Barrivendos, Heir Apparent of Brittania A deeply devout man who has forgotten more about warfare than most will ever know. His early victories have only increased his popularity. A true general who will one day rule all of Briton. Hopefully, Briton will be largely expanded by his general skills. Presently waging war in Germania. General Calpornus of Tuckerum, Son of Belanus The eldest son of Belanus, Calpornus of Tuckerum follows closely in his father's footsteps. He is considered more superstituous than devout, interpreting the signs of the Gods in a stranger way than his father. Regardless, he inspires the men he leads, and is tactically brilliant. Obviously his father taught him well. He is marching into Germania with a small force to support his father's campaign into Germania. |

Perhaps I was mistaken. Rome, it appears, is not the only treacherous scum of this world.
Our conquest of Germania proceeded well. General Belanus of Hoopsguyvia, succeeding in his siege and conquest of Bordesholm (Denmark, roughly), began to oversee the transfer of slaves and the shoring up of defenses around the city. His beloved son, General Calpornas of Tuckerum was well on his way to prepare for continued asssault when treachery struck in the dead of winter. In the dead of winter, Britannia's freshly conquered province of Trier heard the sounds of marching troops. Soon after, the banner of Gaul was seen in the distance. These traitorous bastards wasted little time, commencing the siege of Trier, breaking their treaties with us. War is now upon us on two fronts, and Gaul is by no means a weak nation. Immediatly, we dispatch General Calpornus of Tuckerom to Trier. He will be met with extra troops along the way, and his priority is now to lift the sige of Trier, and then prepare for the invasion of Gaul. They are a far bigger threat than the weakened Germanic tribes. General Belanus is to stay in Germania, await reinforcements, and keep any Germanic counter-attacks off our backs. A younger general who is yet unnamed is back in our capital, re-arming and preparing for battle. Our beloved King Barrivendos has finally stepped off the boats with a fresh army under his command. He will coordinate his efforts with Calpornus of Tuckerum. Gaul will be punished for their treachery. Oh yes. |

There's at least one more general open right now (I just closed the game), and a couple family member governors.
Edit: And Barrivendos' kids are one lusty little group, let me tell you. There's at least 10 grandkids growing up right now. Capornus of Tuckerum will have lots of brothers and cousins! Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 10-07-2004 at 12:37 PM. |

General Diviciacus the Catuvellauni, High Druid of Travisia
The now dead Prestutagus, son of Barrivendos (he fell in the siege of Eire), sired 2 daughters and a son before his death. His youngest daughter, the 13 year old Verica, was to become the wife of the Travisian Druid Diviciacus the Catuvellauni, who made a fine addition to the Royal Family. The mighty druid has already seen much battle in his young life. He carries his scars with pride, and men respect him for this. At only 17 years old, he shows great potential as a general, and already men speak of him as a tactical master. With a long war against Gaul in Briton's forseeable future, his role in the field will be key to our victory. Currently stationed in our capital while his future army is being trained. General Meriadoc of Conovium, Prince of Calis The 15 year old Iseult, daughter of Prestutagus, was this man's ticket into the Royal Family of Britannia. The wedding approved by our Great King, the Calisian Prince Meriadoc knows not the meaning of fear. He already shows signs of being a great general in the future, with a knack for command. At the moment, we have enough generals in the field, so the Prince of Calis is currently overseeing the construction of watchtowers and forts across Britannia. As a side note, I forgot to mention when introducing Belanus and Calpornas, their lovely wives...Belanus is wed to the 32 year old Lady Cartimandua, and Calpornas has the pleasure of being wed to the 14 year old Cunordoa. Both sons are true sons of their respective parents, not by marriage. (I have no more family members currently who have any chance of being generals, and I haven't really encountered any enemy notables, so everyone else is in the queue. I was about to do the writeup for jibbis's governor, but the game just crashed, so I'll pimp him when I fire it up next.) Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 10-07-2004 at 02:55 PM. |

War is not for the timid or weak. Let those who flee battle die the death of a coward. Victory demands no fear, no hesitation, and no mercy.
What we wished to avoid, a war on multiple fronts, is exactly what we are faced with. Our men have handled it well thus far, but our resources and our troops are stretched to the max. As all of our fearless leaders have seen action, let us go down the line. General Belanus of Hoopsguyvia Fresh off his siege of modern day Denmark, Belanus was faced with several bands of Germanic tribesmen bearing down on Briton's newest holding. Low on men, and with no support anywhere near, he nonetheless stood, engaging the Germanic tribes as he could. Indeed, his prowess in command won the day, even as he was outnumbered. His heavily experienced warbands massacred the enemy, and they broke quickly. Three rapid battles in a row, and Germanic troops were on the retreat. Northern Europe is quiet for now. General Calpornus of Tuckerum With the severely outnumbered status of his father, Calpornus was ordered away from the Gaul front, and back to the Germanic line. It was a good thing, as he quickily spotted several more bands of Germans advancing. However, where Belanus was outnumbered, Calpornus, having received extra troops from back home, had the advantage of numbers. The cowardly Germans refused to even engage in battle with Calpornus, and without ever fielding his army, 3 seperate bands of enemy warriors fled from him. His legend grows without ever having engaged. Sensing the moment was ripe, Calpornus of Tuckerum marches on, and has commenced laying siege to the Germanic town of Mogontiacum. General Diviciacus the Catuvellauni, High Druid of Travisia Still on the home isle of Briton, still awaiting the finishing of his army, Diviciacus nonetheless saw action. Enemy brigands, those fools who would not accept the rule of King Barrivendos, were spotted north of the capital. Taking what men he had, he marched north, where the rebel army was slaughtered. 212 rebels fought, and 14 survived the massacre, folding back into the woods. An attempt to hunt down the remaining survivors failed, but the message was clear. He has returned to the capital now, and is almost ready to sail to the mainland. General Meriadoc of Conovium, Prince of Calis If the message to the rebels sent by Diviciacus was not clear enough, then perhaps the rebels executed by this man would put a final note upon it. As he was overseeing the construction of towers in the west of the isle, he and his small band came across another smaller group of rebels. While his force was nowhere near the size of his brother-in-law, the outcome was the same. Leaving the vast majority of rebel troops to the carrion, Mariadoc emerged victorious in his first battle. He will be reporting to the capital for a full army soon. King Barrivendos The King himself was a busy, busy man. And a disgusted one. Marching into Trier to relieve the siege, the armies of Gaul fled before him and his band of 350 brave men. And fled. And fled some more. No more than 6 distinct armies of Gaul were spotted in the field, and not one stayed to engage the King and his forces. Disgusted with the cowardice shown by these supposed brave warriors, Barrivendos marched on, cursing the gods of Gaul as he went. He is within 2 weeks march of the Gallic town of Alesia, and fully intends to enslave the entire city. May the coward die within their walls. |

Cynfawr of Jfbbis, Son of Barrivendos, Governor of Londinium, High Priest of Britannia
The eldest son of King Barrivendos, Cynfawr rules the province of Londinium, and, in his fathers long treks away from home, rules in his stead. An accomplished general himself, Cynfawr however has a definate talent for managing a province, a valued commodity in Briton. He and his 39 year old wife Eudaf have produced 3 sons. The sons, one who has been sent to govern a northern province and quickly forgotten about, his pride and joy Drustan Fozzius. There is a daughter as well, but she is well below the age to be properly wed, and thusly has no need of acknowledging. Cynfawr will remain at the capital unless a new crop of rebels show up on the island and need slaughtering. His job is the defense of the island in absence of any of our field generals. It's a thankless job, but even King Barrivendos himself listens to his son on matters of governing the state. Ser General Drustan Fozzius, Son of Cynfawr The newest man to join the ranks of the Generals of Brittania, Ser Drustan Fozzius has much of his cousin Meriadoc in him. While not nearly as accomplished of general as his cousins and uncles, he shows definate potential on the field of battle. Fitting for a son of the High Priest of Brittannia, he already has a personal priest he carries with him on campaigns, and the men under his command respect him all the more for it. He will remain on Brittania, learning more about the art of war from his father, until a proper army is assmebled for him. |

If it is our fate to die, then it should be met with blade in hand, and a curse upon the lips of our enemies. I can only pray to the Gods that I shall meet the same glorious end as those who have come before me.
The war on multiple fronts still weighs heavily on the minds of King Barrivendos, and it is slowly becoming apparent that we need to find a solution to this problem. In Germania, General Belanus of Hoopsguyvia is sweeping the countryside for the seemingly endless bands of Germanic troops. He defeats one, only to see 3 more armies pop up in the freezing mud. None seem large enough, but they whittle his dwindling forces down to concerning levels. Aid must arrive for this war-weary general, and soon. The good news in Germania. A brief siege, and General Calpornus of Tuckerom has sent word that Mogontiacum now flies the banner of Briton over its town hall. The fighting was brief, and our glorious general wasted little time enslaving the populus and shipping the finest specimins to the homeland. Not one to pass up a good thing, the General took a Body Slave for himself. It does get awfully cold up here, you know. They keep coming, those pesky Germanics. While Calpornus of Tuckerum oversees the repairs and garrisons of his freshly conquered city, reports of Germanic forces continue to grow. He and his father have their hands full, with no word from High Priest Cynfawr of Jfbbis on when fresh troops will arrive. The news is worse in Gaul. Far worse. The King himself, after an inconclusive engagement with his opposite number, King Brennus of Gaul, has begun a siege upon the Gallic town of Condate Redorum. This town appears lightly defended, so it is hoped it will be quickly sacked, and Britannia has one less direction to worry about enemy troops coming from. All armies in Gaul point south if this key location, on the shores of the English Channel, is taken. Alas, if only things were that good elsewhere fighting Gaul. With nearly 400 troops under his command, Travisian Druid Diviciacus the Catuvellauni found himself face to face with the Heir to Gaul, Baranus. With roughly equal forces, and Baranus himself no slouch at commanding forces, this fight would not be easy. But, we are Britons! We back down from no man, especially not these treacherous Gauls, who break their word and try to take our lands and our women! The battle commences in fairly open ground on a frozen day in Gaul. There would be no heights to fight upon, no trees to hide in. Man to man, toe to toe. The Briton forces waited, head throwers eagerly waiting to give these Gallic Scum an early message. The infantry prepared for the charge. And they came. Our forces held. Severed heads flying, the Travisian shouting inspiration, our forces fought bravely. Waiting for the right moment to strike, our General saw one of our bands of swordsmen being overwhelmed by about three times their number in enemies. Seizing the moment, the Travisian General kicked his chariots into action, charging into the flank of the enemy. One unit broke. Two units broke. The other fighting was a stalemate, but our forces were holding. Then the unthinkable happened. In the chaos, the remaining Gaul soldiers ripped our General from his chariot, gutting him from throat to crotch. In a blink of an eye, he was dead. Our forces, disheartened by the loss, began to waver. The frozen blood of Diviciacus the Catuvellauni, High Druid of Travisia oozed onto the field of battle. But all was not lost. Rallying the remainder of the forces, the Travisian's chief captain took command, and brought vengeance to Brittania. The Gauls broke. Briton's armys won the day, but at a terrible price. Not only did we lose one of our finest young commanders, but his opposing number fled like a little girl, and our exhausted forces could not catch him. Fleeing to the capital of Gaul, his date with the axeman will have to wait. All of Briton mourns the loss of the Travisian Druid. Word has been dispatched to the Capital, and Governor Cynfawr has ordered the Prince of Calis, Meriadoc, to the field. He will take command of the Travisian's remaining forces, and supplement them with some extra troops from the homeland. He has but one mission, delivered by carrier pigeon by the King himself. Take your vengeance. Go to the Capital of Gaul and deliver me the head of the man who took my grandson's life. The honor of Brittania is in your hands now. |

A long winter we have had. A longer one yet awaits for our enemies.
I may play some turns tonight, but right now I'm taking stock, and deciding on my plans for my armies. And as such, we go down the line... King Barrivendos the Mighty, the Coffee Warlord, Rule of Briton With our wars in Gaul and Germania raging, the King himself, fearless, has over 600 men currently laying siege to a Gallic town bordering the English Channel. Our hold on northwestern England will be solidified with this conquest, and this may be our mighty King's final battle, at the age of 61. General Belanus of Hoopsguyvia, Son of Barrivendos, Heir Apparent of Brittania With the siege of Denmark by the treacherous Germanic tribes well under way, our mighty heir to the throne is at fast march, hurrying to relieve the weak and outnumberd Britannic soldiers holding fast within their walls. Forces from Trier are being marshalled to supplement his army, but time is running short if we wish to maintain our newly conquered lands. Time is our enemy, but Belanus marches. General Calpornus of Tuckerum Commanding the construction and refitting of his troops in the freshly conquered province of Mogontiacum. With Belanus occupied with relieving the troops to the north, it falls to Calpornus of Tuckerom to keep this Germanic front quiet. His scouts report little activity in the area, but our men are tired, and weakened by constant warfare. A good rest for our mighty general and his dwindling troops is in order, unless more of the enemy is spotted. With our King aging, and the Travisian Druid dead, he and the Heir of Briton are the only two very experienced Generals on the field. General Meriadoc of Conovium, Prince of Calis The Bringer of Vengeance. The Travisian Druid's army awaits a leader, and Meriadoc will take command, and bring the Justics of the Old Gods to the Gauls. Some 500 men, with more on the way, will be at his command. He has only one task: The Destruction of Anything Gallic. All other generals remain idle for the time being. We hurry to get more troops out on the field, and to get more fine leaders ready for war. This war on two fronts must be ended, one way or another. Our money is dwindling, and our troops are tired. It will be us, or them. I prefer us. |

Like a storm we rode across the sea, iron faced warriors prepared to shed blood. We did not come for coin, for lands, or even for honor. We came to kill. One of ours is worth a thousand of theirs, and our druids will keep the tally true until the debt of blood is paid in full.
The wars have turned. The Germanics fall back. The Gauls losses mount, and their capital lies besieged. Our forces may be tired, our treasury perpetually empty, but there will soon be peace in Briton. King Barrivendos the Mighty, King of Greater Britannia True to his commands to his generals, the King himself shed blood. Rivers of it. The province of Condate Remonum fell to the Great King's siege, its people executed, their holy buildings burnt to the ground. Our gods will rule here, not those of a nation marked for death. With a quick and painless assault, the King eyed richer targets south. Our scouts had reported a massing of troops around the Gaul capital, leaving the province of Lemonum nearly empty. It would be filled rapidly by British warriors. Two provinces fell quickly, and Gaul was on the retreat along the western coast. General Belanus of Hoopsguyvia, Son of Barrivendos, Heir Apparent of Brittania, The Conquerer Again, our plans thwarted by the movements of our enemies. However, this time their decisions would be their undoing. Fearing the inevitable attack from their flanks, the Germanic army laying siege to rightful Brittanic property lifted the siege, fleeing east. Alas, he did not march quickly enough. With fresh troops from several provinces, Belanus charged into the Germanic army, routing them after the first assault. More Germanic forces, divided into small, easy to slaughter bands, came forth. The Heir to Briton was there, and won the day time and time again. As word of his repetitive victories spread, the people named him The Conquerer. General Calpornus of Tuckerum With little to do but await fresh forces and govern Trier, Calpornus had it easy. The Conquerer had forced Germania back, and no forces were spotted further south, where Calpornus waited. It quickly became time to survey the front. Marshaling enough forces for his safety, and hiring out a few mercenary warlords, Calpornus has settled in overseeing the construction of watchtowers along Briton's new borders. He is near the front of both Gaul and of Germania, and will be ready to attack either. For now, his mere presence is keeping the central front at bay. Cynfawr of Jfbbis, Son of Barrivendos, Governor of Londinium, High Priest of Britannia Let it never be said governing is all fun and games, although his requests for additional money have not gone unheard. As it so happens, the Roman Senate themselves, arrogant and decadent as always, have come forth, offering trade with the people of Briton. As the King's son and regent, the decision was his to make. With reluctance, Cynfawr had the documents written up to commence trade with the Senate and People of Rome. For now, we take their money in trade. Later, we will simply take it. But the time is not yet come. Ser General Drustan Fozzius, Son of Cynfawr With our shortage of noble generals on the field, Drustan sailed across the sea, following the wake of Meriadoc. With no army ready for him, he was given some amount of coin, and a contingent of 300 mercenary soldiers now travel with him. Overseeing watchtowers across our new provinces in the west, he watches, and waits. His march will be dictated by circumstance. It is also with great pleasure we announce the marriage of Lord Drustan to the Lady Esselt, a 13 year old beauty. Lord Wotecorix, Son of Prestutagus, Deacon of En'T'En The only trueborn son of Wotecorix, and indeed, with the death of the Travisian, his only son, Wotecorix is...somewhat of a dissappointment to his family. Reputed to loathe even the sight of blood, he seems ill suited to warfare. However, despite his cowardice in the face of the gods, he still inspires confidence in those of lesser blood. The druids have yet to explain this strange phenomenon to us, but there it is. We have sent the young Deacon across the sea, where he will be charged with protecting the countryside from bandits. Our wise men hope he will lose his fear of blood after his first taste of battle. Last, but not least... General Meriadoc of Conovium, Prince of Calis The Bringer of Vengeance has marched. With nearly 800 men at his command, some of Britannic origin, some paid as mercenaries, the Prince of Calis has turned his eyes on the massively garrissoned Gallic capital. Within a days march, 100 brave Gauls attempted to thwart his assault. Dead to a man. Not a single Gaul survived the encounter, as the Prince himself, mounted atop his chariot, ran down the fleeing soldiers. Within the day, the siege has begun. There will be no quarter, no mercy. Our spies within the city have reported that the slayer of the Travisian Druid is indeed within the town's walls. Lord Meriadoc, by the grace of the Old Gods, will see the capital of Gaul burned, and every man, woman, and child sent to the underworld. Vengeance will be done. Britannia is proud to introduce...
Enemnogenus the Parisi, Duke of Neuqua A peasant turned warrior, a warrior turned captain, a captain turned hero. With our noble generals being dispatched away from the Isle of Briton, there was no man of noble birth to defend the northern borders from brigands. The Parisi, a commoner, took command of the local garrisson and marched, leading the assault upon the bandits. Their victory assured, and the safety of the homeland once again established, Enemnognus proudly returned back to the city. But word had already been sent from Gaul, where King Barrivendos himself learned of this man's prowess. With Cynfawr, the Parisi's soon-to-be brother presiding, the Duke of Neuqua was adopted into the Royal Family, and will be given a mighty army to command. Obviously not a man to govern, this man has only one specialty: war. At 21 years of age, he shows great potential in becoming another of Briton's great war leaders. |
