should the rangers pay jaramillo?

one way or another eh will be the best paid assistant in the game next season. but, is he really all he is cracked up to be? witness:

BLALOCK
home - 320/376/545 - 921 ops
away - 238/321/479 - 800 ops = 15% decrease

YOUNG
home - 376/406/533 - 939 ops
away - 284/330/439 - 769 ops = 22% decrease

SORIANO
home - 340/371/557 - 928 ops
away - 238/288/429 - 717 ops = 29% decrease

TEXIERIA
home - 275/377/577 - 954 ops
away - 252/326/529 - 855 ops = 12% decrease

BARAJAS
home - 294/310/596 - 906 ops
away - 206/235/397 - 632 ops = 43%!! decrease

NIX
home - 293/330/556 - 886 ops
away - 252/304/486 - 790 ops = 12% decrease

avg. 18% decrease on the road

keep jaramillo or don't, if the players like him, keep him. but i think the jetstream in the summer is a much better hitting coach than he is. soriano has been horrible on the road, blalock i think has like 7 hits since july. i would kill to be a hitting coaching colorado or texas. $$$

Well the players swear by him. Also keep in mind most of those players with the exception of Barajas are quite young and still developing.

One thing that they aren't doing that they did earlier in the season is manufacturing runs especially on the road.

I'll put it this way. Given his longevity of getting his teams to hit here, I wouldn't want to find out if it was just him or the weather here. Not over $100,000.

What's the average decrease of all teams on the road? And of those who play in hitters parks? Or pitchers parks?

Staff salaries in big sports just baffle the shit out of me. They are choking over $100,000 here, as I understand it.

What team would even bat an eyelash at the idea of spending an extra $100,000 for a player who would help their team? Is it even conceivable for a player contract to get hung up over something like that? Not really...

Unless you're convinced the guy is totally replaceable - why on earth would you hesitate and potentially let the guy walk over $100,000? Makes no sense to me...

And this isn't even the NFL - where there is a real salary cap. There, the case is even stronger -- if there's a coach who you think really would make a big difference, why on earth wouldn't you invest $5 million a yera in him? How can that be imprudent, given your overall ongoing investment into the team, and the obvious connection between success and profitability?

Quik, John Hart's response to you and to the public was:

"I've never paid a coach $500,000."

Jaramillo wanted 500k, the Rangers offered 400k. Jaramillo said he would test the market.

I'm as baffled as you are.

Gotta go with Quik on this (well heck, I seldom disagree with Quik). With the money they throw around on player salaries it seems they could toss Jaramillo a mil and not bat an eye. If he's truly one of the best at what he does, and the players seem to think he is, then pay the guy and move forward. To do otherwise is to "stoop over dollars to pick up nickles."

Simply put, is it worth an extra $100 grand to make your hitters happy and help their confidence ? I'd say hell ya.

i think when its said and done rudy will be back, which is fine with me. but clearly arlington is giving him a little bit less credibility with me, and possibly the management as well. frankly hornsmaniac would coach most of these guys to an 800 ops at home

Lets see Texas plays their home games at an offensive palace.
They play many road games at Oakland and Seattle, 2 of the best pitcher's parks in the league. Anaheim is very neutral.

The fact that they have huge home/road splits doesn't suprise me in the least.
