FOFC Defensive MVP: S Kevin Heath FOFC Academic MVP: QB Rob Nielsen (Northwestern's harder) Not only does Al Mighty suck on a sucky team, but he's dumber than shit, too. We need, like X-Com, an Al Mighty II who comes back cockier and funnier (and better and smarter) than the original.

What about redshirts for academic?

I didn't include redshirts I guess because it doesn't seem quite as hard to do well academically when you don't have to play every week as well.

Class of 2003 Preseason Report
S Kevin Heath, Hawaii - Heath developed nicely last season and by the end was averaging 10+ tackles a game. It was not a fun season, though. Hawaii struggled through a 3-8 record. Things aren't looking much better this season. Heath is one of only two players rated Very Good and starting RB Kent Bridges is on Academic Probation. Heath will have to play even better if Hawaii hopes to improve on that record. QB Danny Wilson, Virginia Tech - Many thought Danny should've got the starting job at the beginning of last season. They were vindicated when Patrick Cooley went down for an injury and Danny came through with 1654 yards and 13 TD's in the final 6 games. Cooley is still on the team but Danny has far surpassed him in skill and there is nor eason to expect he won't be the starter this year. Tech fields a strong team this season with 3 Excellent and 6 Very Good players. RB Rob Hillier, UCLA - Hillier was also the benefit of a serious injury last season. When starting RB Victor Griffith went out, Hillier took over and put up some nice numbers, although he struggled during UCLA's three game losing streak. Hillier has developed very nicely but so has Victor Griffith. Griffith is rated 92 to Hillier's 84 and will probably get the starting job, although Hillier should get plenty of carries himself. UCLA boasts an incredible team this year with 6 Excellent and 16 Very Good players. CB Nyar Lahotep, Indiana - Nyar did not start but he played well as a backup, picking up 30 tackles and 2 INT's. Unfortunately Nyar seems to have hit a wall in his development and probably won't get much better. Indiana has decided to redshirt him this season, after wasting his redshirt year with an emergency start in one game. Indiana only has 5 players rated Very Good, and two of them are on Academic Probation, so it will be a long season. T Jeff Nights, Michigan State - Nights started all 11 games for the Spartans last season and put up some decent numbers. He has improved tremendously in the offseason and is the 2nd highest rated player on the team. He should be one of the best Tackles in the Big 10 and will be counted on to protect QB Skip Clem who enters the season with a 72 rating. Michigan State has 10 Very Good players and is looking to imrpove on last year's abysmal record. CB Vex Roid, Oklahoma State - Will started 11 games for Oklahoma State last season and was often picked on by the top tier teams in the Big 12. He didn't manage any INT's but looks like he's improved a bit in the offseason. The same thing can't be said for the team, though. Oklahoma State only has 2 Very Good Players this season and will probably struggle again. QB Ardent Enthusiast, Missouri - Ardent only made it into one game during Missouri's abysmal season and spend most of the season chasing girls. He will compete for the starting job with 4th year junior Dale Brady this season. It won't be a pretty season either way as Missouri only has 1 Very Good player. After that, they only have 7 players rated Good and that includes a punter and 2 placekickers. Should be a fun season. QB Rob Nielsen, Northwestern - Nielsen led a mediocre Northwestern squad to 5 wins last season, which matched their combined total for the previous two seasons. It wasn't always pretty, but Rob did the little things at the right times and made several clutch plays to win games for his team. Northwestern has a better defense this year, but there is still no decent receivers for Rob. With only 6 players rated Very Good, it could be a tough year. QB Daniel Ertmann, UCLA - Daniel was backup last season to Thurman "It's Not a" Toomer. Toomer had a good career, but will not be remembered for his sloppy play last season, which was one of the main reasons UCLA lost three straight games after starting 6-0. Ertmann will have a talented, but unproven WR corps to get the ball to.

TE JeeberD Mack, TCU - Jeeber played in three games as a true freshman last season and made the highlights with a 30 yard TD reception. It looked like a nice season for Jeebr, but an injury cut it short. He hasn't improved as fast as hoped and will be the #2 TE this year. TCU does not have a strong team this year as they will only field one player rated Very Good.
CB Al Mighty, Baylor - Al started all 11 games last season and managed 33 Tackles with 2 INT's. Mighty will have to compete with two other players to keep his starting job. His biggest worry should be remaining Academically eligible. He barely escaped suspension last year with a D- in Geology and Algebra. Baylor only fields on player rated Very God but it looks like they have some depth and should be improved from last year. QB Colton Mayes, USC - Colton sat and watched as USC won the national championship. Now it's his turn to take over the reins. He will definitely start this season and has a nice weapon to throw to in WR Anthony Kuebrich (65 catches, 1143 yards last season). Colton will be heavily scrutineized by fans as he takes over for the legendary Marshall Peterson. With 4 Excellent and 8 Very Good players on the squad, he shouldn't have much of a problem. CB Bobby Breeze, FSU - Here's another screwup I made. I didn't realize that FSUI decided not to redshirt Bobby. They (idiotically) decided to waste a year of his eligibility so he could be the 4th string CB. Bobby only made it into 150 plays for the whole season, and recorded 9 Tackles, 3 Assists, .5 Sacks, 1 TFL, 2 Passes Defensed. Unfortunately, Bobby failed his Sports Management class last year and will be forced to sit out. The silver lining is this can basically serve as his redshirt year. FSU has 4 Excellent and 11 Very Good players, but will struggle with two other players on Academic suspension. QB Brian Butts, South Florida - Brian sat out as a redshirt last season and looks to be the #3 QB on the depth chart. The good news is that both players ahead of him are Seniors and he should have three unchallenged years as South Florida's starting QB. Hopefully South Florida will improve by then as they only have 1 Excellent and 2 Very Good players on the roster and two of those are Kickers. ILB James Clark, Missouri - After starting all 11 games as a true freshman, Clark's development in the offseason was very disappointing. He will start again, but that's more due to the fact that his team sucks than his own talent. Clark better improve next offseason, because there are two freshman ILB recruits waiting in the wings. RB Jesse Ewiak, Boise State - After redshirting last season, Ewiak has a good chance of getting a starting job in Boise State's power I formation. Ewiak will have trouble finding open holes as Boise State has a terrible offensive line. The rest of the team isn't much better, with only 4 Very Good players. It will be hard to match last season's 9-3 record and bowl appearance. DE Gold Golden, Michigan State - After redshirting last season, Golden has improved considerably and is a lock to get the starting job. Along with fellow FOFC'er Jeff Nights, they have a good shot at making the Spartans a winning team. Golden will have to pay more attention to his studies, as his 1.8 GPA nearly cost him a year of eligibility. RB John Ravenhawk, Texas A&M - Ravenhawk got a decent amount of playing time as A&M's #2 RB last season and looks to do the same this year. Unfortunately, he has pretty much maxed out his potential and will probably wind up as a career backup. The Aggies only have 1 Excellent player and 2 Very Good players, so it will be tough for them to repeat as conference champions. S Travis Elkin, Texas - Travis sat out last season as a redshirt and comes into this season with a strong 54 rating that will earn him a starting spot alongside All-American S Tom Lahr (rated 90). Texas will be counting on both of them to stay healthy, since there is no other Safety on the squad rated higher than 10. Texas has one of the top teams in the country this year, with 6 Excellent and 6 Very Good players.

ILB Clint Eastwood, Washington - Due to Washington being very weak at ILB this season, Clint will get a chance to start as a true freshman. Washington struggled to a 7-5 record last season after winning the PAC 10 crown and split national title in 2004. Fans expect some improvement but they enter the season with only one Excellent and 7 Very Good players. Not bad, but it's gonna be tough to win the conference title.
ILB NTN Deacon, Boston College - Deacon will redshirt this season for BC. He joins an Eagles squad with a promising future thanks to strong recruiting. Deacon should have no problems getting the starting job next season as his competition has limited potential. This season could be difficult with only two Excellent and two Very Good players. RB Mike Ritschel, Nebraska - Mike picked a school with some tough competition and his limited potential oculd hurt him in the future. He looks to be the #2 RB next year, but it's possible that others could pass him up in the seasons after that. Nebraska boasts lots of great talent with 5 Excellent and 4 Very Good players. The only question mark appears to be depth. QB FB Pro, Miami - FB Pro will be redshirting this season, and unless my scout just completely misread the situation, FB will probably be a career backup due to his limited potential. The Canes struggled last year but should have an excellent chance to contend with 3 Excellent and 11 Very Good players. WR Kyle Kappe, UCLA - Kyle is a redshirt freshman and is already the 3rd best WR on the team. Eventually he might form part of an FOFC trio of Ertmann, Hillier, and Kappe. He will redshirt this season and almost certainly claim a starting spot next year. WR Nolan Goeken, Iowa - Nolan will be redshirting this season, but his amazing potential has fans anxious to see him play. Iowa is a perennial conference title contender and this year they brought in the #9 recruiting class in the country. Iowa has 2 Excellent and 5 Very Good players this season, but I expect to see those numbers increase in the next few seasons. ILB David Gonzalez, California - When I first saw David's ratings, it was disappointing to see the 54 Future Estimate. However I soon realizxed that it's the highest on the team and he will likely be selected to start as a true freshman. While I still hope my scout read his potential wrong, it looks like he will have a nice career either way. California will likely struggle this year with only one Excellent and two Very Good players.

Don't worry, it won't. I've already simmed the first 4 weeks. I just have to write them up. The first week should be ready by Sunday night.

Week 1:
Finally it's here. You might notice that the summaries are much shorter, but this was a necessary change with the amount of players we have now. Also, I have purchased FOF 2004 finally, so the NFL side will be simmed with that, allowing everyone to see their combine statistics. Nebraska at California True freshman ILB David Gonzalez has a memorable debut with a 10 tackle performance against the Cornhuskers. He led an inspired defense that held the usually powerful Cornhuskers in check for most of the game. In the 4th quarter it was tied 17-17 and looked to be headed to overtime until Cal scored two TD's in the final 1:38 for the stunning upset victory. Final Score: California 31, Nebraska 17 FOFC Stats: ILB David Gonzalez - 10 Tackles, 1 Pass Defensed Texas A&M at Arizona A stifling Texas A&M defense completely shut down Arizona's offense. They held the Wildcats to a mere 184 yards and one FG. The offense was only able to manage a TD and three FG's but it was enough for the victory. RB John Ravenhawk made some nice contributions in a backup role and had 48 total yards on the day. Final Score: Texas A&M 16, Arizona 3 FOFC Stats: RB John Ravenhawk - 8 carries-36 yards, 2 catches-12 yards Wyoming at USC Fans were eager to see if new QB Colton Mayes can live up to the expectations left by his legendary predecessor Marshall Peterson. Mayes had a great start with 3 first half TD passes giving USC a 28-0 halftime lead. However, his sloppy play led to a furious Wyoming rally in the 3rd quarter that cut the lead to 10. Mayes got under control and threw three more TD's to put the game away. Final Score: USC 52, Wyoming 18 FOFC Stats: QB Colton Mayes - 28-45 for 410 yards, 6 TD, 2 INT Central Florida at Washington Washington was a little sloppy early on and it was only 7-7 at the end of the 1st quarter. They got things together and scored 38 unanswered points to take the game. ILB Clint Eastwood had a decent debut with 4 Tackles and 1 Assist, but needs to work on his pass coverage skills as he allowed 3 passes to be caught against him. Final Score: Washington 45, Central Florida 7 FOFC Stats: ILB Clint Eastwood - 4 Tackles, 1 Assist, 1 TFL Memphis at Texas The crowd is very unhappy with the Longhorns play in the 1st half as they fall behind 10-0 to Memphis and only a TD run with 21 seconds left keeps them from a 1st half shutout. Texas still trails 10-7 as the 4th quarter starts but put three nice TD drives together int he 4th quarter for a 28-10 victory. This kind of play will not do against Oklahoma. S Travis Elkin played decent in his debut. Final Score: Texas 28, Memphis 10 FOFC Stats: S Travis Elkin - 4 Tackles, 2 Assists Northern Illinois at TCU Looks like JeeberD Mack will get lots of playing time this season. Despite not getting the start, Jeeber made it into 60 plays. He only caught 1 pass, but also managed a key run block in TCU's tough 20-6 victory over Nothern Illinois. Final Score: TCU 20, Northern Illinois 6 FOFC Stats: TE JeeberD Mack - 1 catch-4 yards, 1-3 Run Blocks. Baylor at Fresno State Baylor played surprisingly well in their season opener. After a 10-10 halftime tie, they broke it open with a 4 yard TD pass and 2 yard TD run within a 5 minute span that left Fresno shellshocked. Baylor, so used to getting pissed on in the past, takes some revenge by kicking a meaningless FG as time expired. CB Al Mighty had a solid game, only allowing 1 pass caught and helped hold Fresno State to 118 passing yards. Final Score: Baylor 27, Fresno State 10 FOFC Stats: CB Al Mighty - 4 Tackles, 1 Assist, 1 TFL, 1 Pass Defensed FSU 45, South Florida 16 Iowa 41, Southern Miss 3 Indiana 34, Boston College 27 FOFC Offensive Player of the Week: QB Colton Mayes - 28-45 for 410 yards, 6 TD, 2 INT FOFC Defensive Player of the Week: ILB David Gonzalez - 10 Tackles, 1 Pass Defensed WR MIJB Nineteen did not receive any offers or contacts this week. RB Ron Juckett received an offer from Syracuse and was contacted by Pittsburgh. QB John Naumoff did not receive any offers or contacts this week. RB Eric Joseph was contacted by Iowa this week. QB AJ Tucker received offers from Fresno State and LSU this week.

Can I rename my player from Will Brown to Vex Roid, so that everyone will be able to identify him easier?
