FOF: at what point do you say to yourself, "that QB is a HOFer" ?
Even when using house rules, we know by experience that it is "easier" to win in FOF than it is in the real NFL.
By that statement, I mean that in FOF you will have QBs that can win multiple SuperBowls : 2, 3, 4 sometimes more...(former 49er legend Brock Sheriff was 10 out of 10 in SuperBowl play in his amazing 16 year career) ... while in the NFL, and in NFL history, very few QBs have won more than 2 SuperBowls (Aikman, Montana, Bradshaw). My question is : in which aspects do you consider a FOF QB a likely Hall of Famer ? Do you use the same criterias as the NFL does (numbers, trophees/awards, dominant player etc...) ? or -and since a FOF QB is more likely to end-up winning MORE than an NFL QB usually do - are you using other credentials ? Is a three-time winning FOF QB a Hall of Famer simply because he has won these three championships ? In the NFL he most likely is. Or does he have to do much more than that (maybe winning 5 titles ?!) to be seen a sure-fire HOFer. Also, is a FOF QB who has thrown for over 40.000 yards a Hall of Famer despite the fact that he never brought his team to the Playoffs ? In the NFL : 40.000 yards will definitely get you HOF consideration. But in FOF ? would that guy be -for you, not the AI- a Hall of Famer QB despite the fact that his team has never won a post-season match ? I'm just wondering these things since we have just had some discussions about real NFL QBs in the Hall (Young, Moon) and we all know that the difference between the NFL and the FOF AI for Hall of Fame induction can differ. For example, in a current FOF career that I am playing, my Cleveland Browns QB Brent Painter has already won three SuperBowls on led the team to the Big dance four time in his 12-year career. However, to me, he's still ranked lower than some of my great QBs of the past (Sheriff, Sammy McNight, Blaine Davies etc...) : which he shouldn't because he's really been successfull. But the fact that we're used to see guys win the SB many times makes it more difficult to gaudge his true" HOF Value" compared to other great FOF QBs. Feel free to add to this debate, I'd love to hear your opinion on how you perceive a FOF QB as being a great one.

- Warning, off topic alert! -
Some people are unlucky and use a 1st round pick on a career backup to a guy who's only remembered for his turnovers total. Time to start a single player career, I guess.

If he's in the top 5 for yds and tds in several seasons along with leading the team to multiple super bowl wins, then I consider him HOF worthy. I don't have a set # for any of the criteria but he has to have the combo of great stats and rings. Just one or the other isn't enough IMO.

When he completes 50.4% of his passes, I think that makes him a hall-of-famer.

You guys! I think, somewhere deep down, you are actually both in love! My favorite QB, Devin Bergeron (see second link below), seems to be a surefire HOF so far. Three championships, multiple league MVPs, highest career passer rating of anyone, rapidly moving up the all-time charts in TDs and yardage. I just hope he can beat Tampa Bay this Sunday and keep my job for me. Last edited by Kodos : 06-25-2004 at 01:04 PM. |

He's just jealous that's all. He can't stand any thread of mine without him attacking it.
Besides, it's only if he gets paid $7 million to be a backup who does nothing. I'd have to say his position on the all-time passing yds and td lists factors into whether I think a QB is HOF worth or not also. He has to be a star in the league for a long time not just a couple of seasons (like Kurt Warner) |

you're excused. but try to stay on topic. I'd say the minimum amount of years a QB has to play and have solid seasons would be 10. They don't need to be 10 all-world seasons but at least 10 seasons where he started and put up good numbers. |
