Who is up for WC 2006?

I was talking to MrBug tonight and the CFL chat and he mentioned going to World Cup 2006 in Germany. I am saving up my money so that I can join him. Anyone else trying to put a little money aside?

Flights to Germany are expensive if you go during the summer.....anywhere between $1200-$1600CAN

Maybe a little cheaper if you don't mind flying on a charter.

There is really no sense in going though...Since the home town Germans shall win handily

I'd love to go, but I can't see any of my current acquaintances wanting to come along with me...... I've saved about a grand for Vegas in less than a month, so two grand or so, wouldn't be that hard..... in other words.... count me in....

Yep. Going to the WC has always been an experience I have wanted to have, and 2006 seems like the prime time for me.

Hm, I never thought about this seriously, but Germany is basically next door for me...
I'd go, but only if the Amsterdam Admirals have been killed by NFL owners by then.

Well, if it's 2006, in Germany, I better get Mrs. IndoorSoccerSim ramped up on Soccer knowledge, and brush myself up on my German again.

I think we could make it.

You may be able to save a little money if you fly into Paris and rent a car for the remainder of the trip. Plus, you will be able to see more of europe. Just my .02.

2014 is almost certainly going to be Brazil. 2018 will be in Asia (China probably?) and 2022 back in Europe again.

Brazil needs to get its economy in order first.

2014 is America's turn in the rotation. All of the other South American countries have already said they are not interested and would support Brazil hosting it. Also, Brazil hasn't hosted the WC since 1950, whilst their only concievable rival is the USA, who hosted it in 94 so are unlikely to get another chance for a while. It's pretty much in the bag for them unless FIFA does a dramatic about turn on the whole continental rotation plan unveiled recently.

Besides, Brazil is in FAR better shape to host a World Cup than South Africa.

Certainly going to tryito make it. After being in Portugal for the European Championships last June, I would highly recommend it. A great time.

The 6 month bump. Looking like things are falling into place for me to be able to go. I'll graduate right before the first game. Even if I cant actually go watch any games, just being there should be awesome

Could always travel around Europe between games you wanted to watch. They got four-five day breaks in the opening stages between each game.

Let's see what stadia the games are played in. I boycotted the U-21 World Cup in the Netherlands because they played all games outside of Holland, meaning they were all too far away from home to get back home by pulic transportation before the last train departs from Rotterdam to Maassluis.

Hmmm, Gelsenkirchen and Koln/Cologne... That's not too far away for a two-day trip...

Yes, they are tourist friendly. The only places I'd watch out for are around the US Bases, as they can be a little anti-US. But English is widely spoken in Germany, and there are a lot of great places to visit.

What kind of timetable are we looking at for getting the WC back in North America, whether it be in the States or Mexico (sorry Canada)? '14? '18?

I'm moving to Germany next year around this time, so sadly, I will miss the WC action. But I did bump up my reporting date to August so I won't miss Oktoberfest '06....err....I mean so I'll get their before the start of my kids school year so they don't have to miss any school.
