Post OT Career Thread - Promotion Wars

After hearing about this game on the board, i decided to give it a whirl. needless to say, im hooked. I decided, in the tradition of Quick's Hooves of Thunder posts, i would post the trials and tribulations of my WCW promotion. Also, in Quick's honor, I will CUT EVERYBODY and fill my roster with free agents. It should be interesting to see how this develops. Stay Tuned

I've just finished cleaning out WCW's roster.

GOODBYE Goldberg
GOODBYE Hulk Hogan
GOODBYE Ric Flair
GOODBYE Sting

It was hard (they need to improve the interface so you can release more than 1 wrestler without clicking several times), but was necessary for the challenge. I've decided to sign 30 wrestlers, 10 in each division (upper, middle, and lower cards). There wont be any Nitro and Thunder this week, and maybe next week, and at worst, Souled Out will be cancelled (another request, ask for confirmation if you want to give promotion for the pay per views) but it's all in the name of the challenge. The 30 wrestlers signed will be posted later.

Cool deal! If anyone here messes around with TNM, they should throw their results up here, it's really easy, and makes for great reads!

ummmm, apparantly if you dont have anybody on the roster, you cant continue the game. so im gonna keep 10 guys on the roster for the first nitro until i sign the enormous amounts of wrestlers i want. The developer has added the ability to start your own fantasy federation, so i am DEFINATELY looking forward to the next update. any wrestling fan should

also apparantly, without any good wrestlers, you get fired. so i'm gonna just keep the wrestlers and build from there. I guess my new challenge is to beat the WWF in the ratings war, have high grossing pay per views, and have everybody have an entertainment rating of atleast 80. I'll have to save the "empty locker room" challenge for a later day

So, if you're running a professional wrestling sim, how exactly does that work?

Does the gamer sit down and write a script for who will do what and who will win, and then just sit back and watch them play it out? Is the challenge in the game writing the clever little on-screen dramas that unfold before and after the "match"? Do you get to design the large men's little masks and tights? Or perhaps it's planning the various dosages in the syringes for the "training" for the performers that's the real strategic element?

Just curious... I understand the notion of simulated sports, but I'm really not too familiar with things like simulated "sports entertainment."

I had a mess around with this program, and it's a bit strange. Not really a sport simulation as it's quite open about everything being fixed. You can pretty much choose which "wrestler" wins each fight. Also "wrestlers" aren't rated on ability (not openly, anyway), the only ratings are drawing power and entertainment value.

The point is to increase TV viewing figures and income for your federation by staging promotions between entertaining fighters with good drawing power, and use feuds/marketing/etc to whip up interest.

I've never watched wrestling, so I didn't recognise any of the names so I found it hard to get into, but I reckon it'd be fun if you were a wrestling aficionado, until it got too repetitive.

basically the goal of the game is to have the highest TV ratings, have high grossing pay-per-views, & high merchandise sales, or more concisely, make as much money as possible.

OK!! I’m finally going to start this thread, but with a few changes…

I’ve decided to start with WWF instead of WCW since more people on this forum are probably more familiar with its wrestlers (at least the wrestling fans are.) I’m still using the rosters the game comes with. After looking at the roster, I decide to cut everybody who has less than 75 entertainment rating and doesn’t draw at least 75. The following wrestlers are cut….

Big Boss Man
Albert
Val Venis
Tiger Ali Singh
Chaz
Steve Blackman
Just Joe
Crash
Jerry Lawler
Mark Henry
Gangrel
Rodney
Pete Gas
Joey Abs
The Goodfather
Mideon

These cuts put the roster down to 45. I’m looking to sign 5 more wrestlers to make it an even 50. The ones I’m targeting are

Vader
Scott Hall
Jushin Liger
Masato Tanaka
Sabu

These moves should give me some more talented workers and a few who can draw on the upper-to-middle card level. I’m thinking of teaming Liger and Tanaka if I sign them and call them The Rising Suns as a face tag team. What does the forum say? The current champions are

WWF Champion: Kurt Angle
WWF Intercontinental Champion: Chris Benoit
WWF Tag Team Champions: Edge & Christan
WWF Light Heavyweight Champion: Dean Malenko
WWF Hardcore Champion: Raven
WWF European Champion: William Regal

I’m looking to give Angle & Benoit long runs as champ, possibly give the tag titles to a face team, and keep the remaining champions. What does the forum say? Full roster report coming shortly.

Here is part one of my report, the current WWF champions

WWF Champion: Kurt Angle
Draw Rating 89; Entertainment Rating 82

Future Plans: I’m probably going to give him a nice reign as champion to raise his draw value to the mid 90s. After that is undecided, but a sure main-eventer for the next several years

WWF Intercontinental Champion: Chris Benoit
Draw Rating 88; Entertainment Rating 91

Future Plans: Probably the same as Angle and give him the IC title for a while, with a rough estimate being dropping the title at Wrestlemania. The draw rating isn’t what I would like for an upper card wrestler, but a few clean wins at a PPV should bring that up to the 90s.

WWF Tag Team Champions: Edge & Christian
Draw Ratings 82 & 78; Entertainment Ratings 85 & 83

Future Plans: Not quite sure whether or not to give them a long reign, or have them drop the belts to a face team with not so high draw ratings (Hardyz in particular). Would like to raise Christian’s draw value by at least 2 points, so they’ll probably be the champs for a minimum one month.

WWF Light-Heavyweight Champion: Dean Malenko
Draw Rating 82; Entertainment Rating 80

Future Plans: Debating whether or not to drop the belt to a middle card face or lower card face. The problem is there is a lack of middle card faces I would want to drop the belt to (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn are the only guys there, hence my problem.) Plenty of good entertaining faces on the lower card (K-Kwik, Chris Chetti, Al Snow.)

WWF Hardcore Champion: Raven
Draw Rating 85; Entertainment Rating 76

Future Plans: Looking to start a feud between him and Tazz over the Hardcore strap (belt). I would have to turn one of them face first & I’m not sure who. Should be entertaining though.

WWF European Champion: William Regal
Draw Rating 75; Entertainment Rating 77

Future Plans: Actually thinking about releasing him, but I would have to drop the belt first. Feud Possibilities include K-Kwik, Hardcore Holly, Funaki, & Taka Michinoku

Before I continue, I need to know if there is enough interest to warrant me doing all of this. Please respond if you are interested in seeing this thread continue, or if it should be put out into pasture.

That’s enough for me to continue. For all of the non-pro wrestling fans, I’ll try to keep things simple so you might learn something. Here’s Part 2 of my report, the remaining upper card wrestlers

The Rock
Draw Rating 99; Entertainment Rating 74

Future Plans: Either him or Stone Cold Steve Austin will feud with current WWF champion Kurt Angle for the belt at the upcoming pay-per-view, the Royal Rumble. Is a HUGE part of my company’s future, and will definitely have some merchandise come Saturday (Note: Every Saturday, you can make merchandise of your most popular wrestlers. A nice way to make some more money for your company)

Stone Cold Steve Austin
Draw Rating 99; Entertainment Rating 69

Future Plans: See The Rock

Shawn Michaels
Draw Rating 93; Entertainment Rating 90

Future Plans: Probably the best all around wrestler in the company. Feud possibilities include Triple H or The Big Show. If that doesn’t materialize, a strong showing in the Royal Rumble is highly likely. (Note: The Royal Rumble is a 30 man battle royal where the only way to be eliminated is to be thrown over the top rope and hit the floor. Only happens at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, hence the name.)

Mick Foley
Draw Rating 91; Entertainment Rating 72

Future Plans: Probably going to retire in a few years due to age. Maybe the greatest hardcore wrestler ever (Note: His autobiography, Have a Nice Day, is an EXCELLENT read and I highly recommend it.) Maybe used to put over (in simple terms, lose to so the winner looks better) Raven as hardcore champ. Also possible feuds with HHH, Big Show, Kane, & Rikishi

The Undertaker
Draw Rating 90; Entertainment Rating 70

Future Plans: Also getting up there on age and due to retire soon, Undertaker might feud with “brother” Kane, Big Show, or HHH. A Royal Rumble appearance is also possible

Kane
Draw Rating 89; Entertainment Rating 79

Future Plans: Feud with The Undertaker, Mick Foley, or Rock/Austin. Also a Royal Rumble appearance is possible

Triple H
Draw Rating 92; Entertainment Rating 80

Future Plans: Feud with Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, or Rock/Austin. Too high a drawer to put in the Rumble

The Big Show
Draw Rating 89; Entertainment Rating 52

Future Plans: If it weren’t for his high draw rating and lack of upper card heels, would be unemployed. Also nothing set in stone, just like practically everybody else

Chris Jericho
Draw Rating 89; Entertainment Rating 87

Future Plans: More than likely a feud with Benoit for the IC Title. A WWF Title reign in a few years isn't out of the question.

Coming up next: Tag Teams

Any ideas & input is greatly appreciated

Another installation of the roster report: On this episode, Tag Teams

The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff)
Draw Ratings 78; Entertainment Ratings 91 & 95

Future Plans: Probably will feud with E&C for the Tag Titles. Both of these guys are high potential wrestlers with definite singles futures ahead of them.

The Acolytes (Faarooq & Bradshaw)
Draw Ratings 78 & 75; Entertainment Ratings 65 & 68

Future Plans: Unsure due to lack of top heel tag teams. A Possible heel turn to remedy that is possible. No singles potential at all. Feuds with the Dudley Boyz or Too Cool possible

The Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray & D-Von)
Draw Ratings 76; Entertainment Ratings 72 & 73

Future Plans: #2 face tag team behind the Hardyz. Limited singles potential. Feuds with the Acolytes or Too Cool possible.

Too Cool (Scotty 2 Hotty & Grandmaster Sexay)
Draw Ratings 78; Entertainment Ratings 78 & 76

Future Plans: A candidate for a heel turn. Good singles potential. Feuds with The Dudley Boyz or The Acolytes possible

Right To Censor (Steven Richards & Bull Buchanan)
Draw Ratings 68 & 65; Entertainment Ratings 78 & 79

Future Plans: One of the more hated teams in the WWF. More than likely a feud with the Dupp Brothers, as they are the only other lower card tag team.

The Dupp Brothers (Jack & Bo)
Draw Ratings 63; Entertainment Ratings 76 & 82

Future Plans: Recently changed to faces. High potential team, more than likely will feud with Right To Censor for the time being.

Coming Up Next: Middle Card wrestlers

Next-to-last roster report: Middle carders

Rikishi
Draw Value 82; Entertainment Value 65

Future Plans: Potential top heel, but needs some more draw points.

X-Pac
Draw Value 82; Entertainment Value 88

Future Plans: Would like to make him a top heel for the future since my goal is to have high entertainment guys be top drawers. Also needs a couple of PPV wins

Road Dogg
Draw Value 78; Entertainment Value 79

Future Plans: I’m giving serious considerations of teaming him with Billy Gunn and reforming the New Age Outlaws. Any opinions on this?

Shane McMahon
Draw Value 77; Entertainment Value 76

Future Plans: Probably going to be used as a jobber (guy who loses all the time) to put younger, high potential wrestlers over

Billy Gunn
Draw Value 78; Entertainment Value 70

Future Plans: See Road Dogg

Eddie Guerrero
Draw Value 83; Entertainment Value 89

Future Plans: See X-Pac

Perry Saturn
Draw Value 80; Entertainment Value 81

Future Plans: Either make him a jobber or build him into a top middle card heel. Unsure

Tazz:
Draw Value 82; Entertainment Value 85

Future Plans: Hardcore championship feud with Raven

D’Lo Brown
Draw Value 81; Entertainment Value 84

Future Plans: Could possibly be made a face (good guy). If not, look for him to feud with Taka Michinoku

Al Snow
Draw Value 76; Entertainment Value 80

Future Plans: Needs a couple of big wins to ensure his status as middle carder.

Taka Michinoku
Draw Value 77; Entertainment Value 88

Future Plans: See D’Lo Brown

Coming up: The final installment, lower card workers

The last installment: Lower card workers

K-Kwik
Draw value 68; Entertainment value 92

Future Plans: Look to make him a main event face in the future, but that’s a few years away. Looking to give him a title to defend, but not sure which.

Hardcore Holly
Draw value 73; Entertainment Value 75

Future Plans: Could be released, could be jobbed out. More than likely will be gone by the end of the year

Essa Rios
Draw Value 70; Entertainment Value 90

Future Plans: Probably feud with K-Kwik after Kwik has a title

Funaki
Draw Value 70; Entertainment Value 79

Future Plans: Would like to elevate to middle card because of the entertainment, but it will take a while. A definite long-term project. Likely feud with Chris Chetti

Test
Draw Value 76; Entertainment Value 76

Future Plans: A couple of months away from middle card status. A few big wins needed though.

Chris Chetti
Draw Value 69; Entertainment Value 82

Future Plans: Feud with Funaki

Well, that’s the WWF as of right now; here are the guys I’m looking to sign off of the Indy circuit

Scott Hall
Draw Value 88; Entertainment Value 79

Future Plans: If signed, will be top middle carder or low upper carder

Masato Tanaka
Draw Value 82; Entertainment Value 91

Future Plans: Looking to team with Jushin Liger. Would provide excellent #3 tag team if signed

Vader
Draw Value 89; Entertainment Value 85

Future Plans: Top heel for the immediate future. No long-term prospects

Sabu
Draw Value 87; Entertainment Value 98

Future Plans: A total badass. Definite World Title potential if signed

Jushin Liger
Draw Value 87; Entertainment Value 90

Future Plans: See Masato Tanaka

These are the feuds I have come up with

The Rock versus Kurt Angle for the WWF Title
E&C versus the Hardy Boyz for the Tag Titles
Chris Benoit versus Chris Jericho for the IC Title
Stone Cold versus Triple H
Open for suggestions

Good job!!!

I tried to start a career the other night (because of this thread actually) and did some very similar things. Signed vader, too. Hee hee. Though i kept Shane and the mean street posse for jobbers.

I think I'm going to restart since my first show wasn't nearly as well thought out as yours.

Question: is it a good idea to keep a (relatively) decent draw guys around to put over some high entertainment guys?

I've been messing about with this game too. As I said, don't know anything about wrestling but at least now I know what a "heel" and a "face" is.

How do you decide which wrestlers qualify for which title? They all seem the same to me. And what does "Hardcore" mean?

daedalus- i kept shane, but as you've read, i havent used him yet. the posse just flat out suck, no need for them

critch- wrestlers dont really qualify for a title, but the guidelines i use are the high drawing wrestlers should gun for the main title, guys with main event potential, but havent achieved it yet go for the IC title, tag teams go for the tag titles (naturally), and the others i give to guys who are solid all around (70s or 80s for both ratings) but as youll see, im gonna use them to get over the low drawing, but high ranking entertainers so i can rise their draw values and catapult them to main event status.

Thanks, looks like I'll be using your reports as a "how to" before giving the game another try.

So far I've been trying WCW as they've got way fewer wrestlers, so it's a bit easier for me to keep them straight.

End of week report 12/31/00-01/07/01

I'm pleased with Smackdown's ratings, but Raw should be in the 6-7 range (maybe a few title defenses will bump that up.....)

The Undertaker & Al Snow have been offered new long term contracts. Hardcore Holly will not be resigned

All upper card wrestlers have been given $10,000 each in individual merchandise

The execs are saying we have a lack of top heels. (a bad guy with a draw rating 90 or above.) I am not concerned, as I have 4 heels with draw ratings of 89, and another with 88. By WrestleMania, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Look for some title defenses on the next Raw and Smackdown. Also expect some high profile debuts

My feuds are developing nicely, look for some high intensity matches at Royal Rumble 2001

Raw Report for 01/08/01 coming soon. Feedback appreciated

Monday Night Raw Report: 01/08/01

Live from the Orlando Arena in Orlando, FL, a capacity crowd of 15,000 screaming fans

First Match: Essa Rios versus Blitzkrieg (WWF Debut)
Blitzkrieg wins by pinfall after hitting the Sky Twister Press. Rios sustained an injury in this match and will miss 6 weeks of action

Second Match: K-Kwik versus X-Pac
K-Kwik wins by pinfall after hitting the Top Rope Splash

Third Match: New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) versus The Hardy Boyz (Matt & Jeff)
The Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian run in at the beginning of the match, starting a 4 team brawl. After E&C & The Dudleyz leave, Matt Hardy covers Road Dogg for the three.

Fourth Match: Sabu (WWF Debut) versus Chris Benoit (WWF Intercontinental Champion)
Sabu wins by pinfall after hitting the Triple Jump Moonsault. Afterwards, The Radicalz (The group Benoit is in along with Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, & Eddie Guerrero) run in and attack Sabu. Chris Jericho then runs in and cleans out the Radicalz. He & Benoit have a staredown at the end.

Main Event: Razor Ramon (WWF Debut), The Rock (WWF Champion), and Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Vader (WWF Debut), Kane, & The Big Show
Vader pins Steve Austin after hitting the Vader Bomb. Big Show picked up an injury in this match and will miss a month of action.

Monday Night Raw drew a 5.61. Monday Nitro drew a 2.9

$105,000 in merchandise was sold

Rob Van Dam leaves ECW and signs with WCW (This is major, as Rob Van Dam was the best wrestler in ECW, comparable to Sabu in ratings)

Smackdown Report coming soon, feedback appreciated

Please keep the updates coming! It's great reading. I have a WCW career going, but to be honest, my angles are about half as thought out as yours.

One question for all you who play the game: I signed Sabu, gave him a push and the Hardcore championship, and let him enjoy a lengthy title reign. Yet, his attitude never has risen above "below average". Any of you ever had something similiar happen?

This may be really sad but for a year or two i watched wrestling reguarly and everyonce in a while i will turn it on now(when nothin else on)...first of all i playin a WWF carrer also and a little tip is get your young guys you want to be supersatrs for you later in there almost everynight or every other...it will give them higher draw calues as they appear more and keep them on push cause nobody wants to see someone get their asses kicked every night

Regarding bertogarce's question...if you are behind in the ratings he may be sad about the poor preformance of your company...if your ahead you might try giving him a higher belt and if he still sad drop him cause they predorm worse when sad...

Bigdawg...nice call on blitzkreig...i remember when he was with WCW and rocked taking out Rey Jr. and Kidman in a handicap match....i hired him up and put him in the Light Weight belt spot and gave him a push...put the line up a couple times but with push i didnt have to worry...or i just give it right back too him...after a whiole at Light w. champ he now has:

Draw: 76
Entertainment: 97

This is after the 3rd Pay Per View...same goes for dupps but for different ratings and tag belts...they currently fuding with hardys but matt down for 2 moths after trying to take the belt from Blitz... so i gotta put in the great sasuki and abunai.

A little tip to help all you commioners...at PPV's always us your coporations special match in main event(Hell in the Cell/Triple Cage)...and try to make it for the big belt(Championship)...only really put the belt up at a max 2 times a month...if have any questions or need any help post here and i will help ya...Until then...See ya later

Awesome. Thanks BigDawg and Blade.

Question: I went after The Great Muta (along with Vader). Is he a worthy sign?

The great Muta is a little old but can preform for a year or two still before you really see a dramatical decline in his ratings...you can always keep him just for his draw value which is pretty good...i signed vader in my game and usaully send him in fueds with guys around same size(rikishi, bigh show) because they last longer...

I got a ? for you guys but check over on the general discussion for it..i post it now...it about names and stuff for guys fressh out of training or "boot camp"

Oh. Is there any way to tell, like, what kinda age-range the guys are in? Or is the only way to rely on the text description?

PS - Danke for the answer, by the way.

Cool

Blade, thanks for answering my question about Sabu. I'll likely move him up to the next highest belt, and if that doesn't work, release him.

Agree with your take on Blitkrieg. He's one heck of a worker.

There's no way to tell a guy's age in the game, but if you download one of the editors (theres a link on promotionwars.com), you can see how long it is before they retire.

Blade- In my game, Blitzkrieg is a 96 entertainer. Is it possible to raise somebody's entertainment value, and if so, how? I know in the next version, you can send a wrestler to training camp to improve that, but that's not til May

Berto: This is taken right out of the Promotion wars Strategy guide you can get from most the sites...

---Morale---

The levels of morale are:
Excellent, Very Good, Good, OK, Below Average, Low

To boost morale you can do many things:

1. Extend their contract.
2. Pay them more.
3. Move them to mid/high-card wrestler.
4. Put them in a feud with a top wrestler.
5. Give them a title.
6. Changing them to heel/face (if having a good impact with the crowd) can really boost their morale.

If you've tried those things and your wrestler still isn't happy, you may want to release him and find someone else. Signing him again can help but this is an unproved theory.

Many times a wrestler's morale is worth more then his values, of course the values help, but many of the "worst matches of the night" usually have one of the wrestlers with a low morale. For example, you can have Stone Cold (excellent morale) vs. Shawn Michaels (low morale) for the WWF Title and it can get worst match of the night! So make sure to check wrestlers morale before you book main events.

Blade, sincerely appreciate the info on moral.

I've noticed that Sabu's bad moral is indeed effecting his performance. I've put him in what should have been some solid hardcore matches against the likes of Steve Corinio, Sandman and Al Snow, but he usually ends up with the worst match of the evening. He's about to get his pink slip.

Thanks again for the help.

bertogarce- have you tried elevating Sabu to a higher belt. I would see if giving him the IC title or US title (whichever company u are) affects his morale. if that doesnt work, maybe give him a raise, or a face/heel turn can improve morale if it goes over with the fans

yeah, that does make sense. i wasn't looking forward to writing up EVERY SINGLE raw and smackdown. maybe just one weekly report and just results and important stuff. and at this rate, there wont be any noticeable changes for months.

End of Week Report 01/08/01-01/14/01

Every wrestler with merchandise made $25,000 each, a profit of $15,000 each for a total of $195,000 in profit

The Royal Rumble is in one week, and should take place at the United Center in Chicago

The execs are not satisfied with the potential for William Regal as European Champion

As previously stated, Raw & Smackdown reports are a thing of the past. From now on, there will be only weekly reports & full pay-per-view results, instead of the raw and smackdown detailed reports. Winners will be listed, but thats all.

The execs are also expecting a training camp wrestler to emerge in the coming weeks.

Next weekly report coming shortly

I can't believe Blitz didn't win...stupid K-Kwik...he will pay dearly in my game...im gonna have to send him to the indy's(evil music cues)De De De Da...WCW or ECW will pick him up..i feel bad for them...he proboably will never get time again..oh well..i could care less after he beat Blitz!!

Oh....wait...i could turn that into a fued and keep a young good guy and then have Blitz destroy him in a "hell in the cell" match at the next PPV...ahhh...the thought of the future and how the "High Flyers"(group of 90+ent. crusier weights) rallyed behinf Blitz to win a huge tournament for the light belt as the highflyers never lost a match the whole tournament to non-High Flyers...K-Kwik will get kicked out of the gang after getting a huge beatdown during one of Blitz's run-ins...ohhhhhh all the thoughts....i gotta play see ya later

P.S. Anymore questions ost them here...i will answer after i get to Arizona and my stuff gets out there on the moving truck...hope i like it in Arizona(Phoenix)

Well anyway...as that pig from lonney tunes sayes..."Thats All Folks"

I've known about this game for almost a year. It's good at first, but can get boring. I suggest another wrestling game, Extreme Warfare Deluxe, which is newer than Promotion Wars. Extreme Warfare has been in the making for 5 years, but the Deluxe edition is the newest & best. Try it out. !Extreme Warfare DeluxeAlso, if you like the game, I'm a regular visitor of the message board there, mainly just in General Discussion, which i really dont even talk about wrestling!
Also, continue to check at www.promotionwars.com to find out when the next version(Promotion Wars 2), comes out, its still in the making(I'd guess 80% done). If the creator does it right, it has a very good chance of being better than EWD(Extreme Warfare Deluxe). But until it comes out, stick with EWD - it's much better than the original Promotion Wars.
